“See! There’s a great start to it all. I wouldn’t stress it too much. Not everyone walks into college knowing what they want.”
“Yeah. I guess that’s true. I’ll just be happy when I know, y’know?”

“Do you not like the cold then? I find it pretty exciting myself!”
“Well, when it’s all day, every day, it kind of gets tiresome. But, I don’t hate it too much. Snow is fun when you can do stuff with it. Y’know, like... snowball fights and stuff.”

“There’s no shame in that,” Amane said it but she totally judged him as he admitted that he didn’t know what he wanted to do. She knew what she wanted to do. She had a four-year plan that was followed by another four-year plan. People who operated without a clue were just foolish to her.
“Sister? That’s- Oh. The odds of her being alive are slim. Especially as a demigod. Apparently, we have short life spans. I’m willing to bet a lot of old school war heroes were demis. It seems fitting. There has to be someone famous now that is a demi, too. Beyonce? She’s probably a demigod. She’s flawless as it is.”
“Heh. I mean, I guess so. I wish I knew, really. It’s just a hassle.” Don knew that he needed to get his butt in gear when it came to this stuff, but, really, that just caused him more anxiety. “Yeah. I.. Didn’t think she was alive.” He shrugged his shoulders again. “Yeah, I’m sure. I’m sure back in ancient days when people were more in tune with gods, it was more common anyways.” Don chuckled awkwardly at the joke. He wasn’t going to share his opinion on Beyonce. She was fine, he just didn’t think she was perfect like people said. “Probably. Ryan Reynolds probably is..”

“You have all the time in the world. Maybe you can just take little things in every field and just see what jumps out to you.” She shrugged a bit. “It’ll come to you.”
He nodded. “Yeah. I’ve been thinking about it pretty hard. This coming semester I’m taking two electives that are out of my major.”

Rachel nodded softly. “I’m sure whatever it is.. it’ll come to you! It sometimes takes awhile.” She shrugged. “Being an author would be pretty cool though. I don’t think you really have to be the best writer, just creative and real with your words.”

“Yeah.. But it has to flow together well. And I have to have original ideas.” He pursed his lips. “I at least have a little bit of time to decide.”

Don chuckled a little awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head. “It’s uh.. It’s really cold. I definitely prefer it here..”

“What’s your major, by the way?” They were talking about school. It wouldn’t hurt to know what he was studying. Maybe it would be nice to have a friend in her classes. Unless he wasn’t in her classes. At least she’d have a friend around campus.
“Right?” Although Amane was pretty sure she was her mother’s only child. There was too much drama in the pantheon for Amaterasu to have time to have more children. “I wonder if anyone ever took a head count of how many of them there are versus how many of us there are. Demigods are probably a large number of the population of supernaturals. We’d be higher in number if we were immortal like our parents. I wonder why that is.” Amane could talk and talk forever until someone reeled her in. It was even worse since she hadn’t slept.
“Oh uh... It’s not really set in stone... But at the moment it’s an english major. But I’m really just focused on trying to find out what I want to do.” He shrugged his shoulders lamely; it sucked that he didn’t know what he wanted to do. “I... Talked to an angel who said I may have had a sister, but that was at least a hundred years ago.” He shrugged again. “Yeah.. Heh. A bunch of kids with superpowers running around throughout history. I wonder if any like.. famous people were demigods.”

“You’re still undecided?” She asked curiously. “I mean there is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes it takes awhile, and even when you think you have it, it’ll change a million times till you really have it.”

“Yeah, unfortunately.” The demigod shrugged. “Yeah.. I uh.. I just don’t have any realistic callings. For awhile, I thought about becoming an author. But uh.. I’m not super good at writing, so I scratched that. Now I’m unsure again.”

“It’s…quiet. Calm, normal, a little lonely. In my opinion, here is a lot better. Were you raised in Crossroads?”
“Oh.. No.. I lived in Canada for awhile and then my father and I moved to Palisades Park, New Jersey. And uh.. My mom contacted me and suggested we move here. So... We did.”

“His class fills up fast. If you haven’t yet, do it. Even if it’s a waiting list.” She nodded, “but your best bet is to stalk the coffee shops in town.” She last saw him at one but she didn’t know if it was his habitual spot. “You know that coffee shop that is like Starbucks but isn’t? That’s where I saw him the other day. You can try there?”
Amane’s mother wasn’t horrible but she was busy. Amane got small gifts, a song bird to whistle happy birthday when she turned sixteen or sunflowers for her graduation. Little things but she rarely saw her mother. She had a stupid mirror that she could use to talk to her but she was a goddess she was busy with godly things. “Fun, right?” She moved on and talked about a lighter topic, “Oh, yeah. There’s one at the college, Reed. He does the campus walk program. Then there’s that pretentious ass, Diego. They’re both Greeks.” Those were the only two she met, “I heard there’s one that runs the Human Services downtown. There are a lot. Guess the gods like to get freaky, huh?”
“Oh. I guess I should get on that then.” He breathed out, wondering how long it would actually take to get in the class? She said it was his best bet to check coffee shops, but that was his downtime. Did he even want to help out while he was relaxing? Don wasn’t sure. After the kidnapping incident, Don and his mother became close. It wasn’t a perfect relationship by any means, but it was certainly better than other demigods’ relationships. He kept in contact with her at least once a week; it didn’t feel like much, but he was happy with it. “Yeah.” He nodded. “It’s uh... surprising how many demigods there actually are.. Kind of uh... makes you wonder if the gods are as busy as they say...”

Carrie laughed for a second before stopping herself in her tracks, laughing at someone’s serious question was rude. “You’re welcome, and no, I don’t believe that, because of this conversation, you’ll go to Hell.”
She laughed at least, that was... Sort of good. He blushed slightly, feeling a little self conscious. Don tried to keep himself calm; the idea of an afterlife scared the heck out of him. It didn’t help that he had no idea what he actually believed in. The young man sighed quietly. “I have so many questions...”

Carrie stood awkwardly in the silence, unsure of what to do. She kept an awkward smile across her face, unsure of what to do.
He took a deep breath and offered her a forced smile. “Sorry... I uh... Just thinking too much... But uh.. Thank you for answering...” Don waited a moment before blurting, “This conversation won’t send me to hell, will it?”

“I wasn’t born, I was created.” Carrie honestly never thought about her creation, she just… was. “I’ve been alive since the dawn of time, and I’ll be alive until the end of it.”
He nodded. Created was a more apt word for it probably. Shit. What was it like at the beginning of time? What would it be like at the end? Would this just be some long-forgotten memory in time? The thought of his existence being nothing more than just a short second in time made his stomach churn. Did any action of his actually matter? He held his head, feeling lightheaded. Existential crises were not something his mind and body took kindly to

“Um… sure.” Carrie was never a big fan of personal questions. Any time spent on herself could be sent serving others, but she supposed that she would let it slide since he had told her some personal stuff. It was only fair.
That was not an answer he wanted to hear, simply because he really didn’t want to make an angel uncomfortable. Was that a sin? Could he be struck to whatever Hell there was for this? “Do you uh... Remember what it was like to uh... Be.... Born...? I guess...? I don’t uh... Know the correct phrase.”

“He’s helpful. I don’t know if hes teaching the Winter Semester but he usually has office hours posted or you can catch him at the coffee shop. That guy practically runs off the stuff.” The thought of coffee seemed great to her in the moment but books needed reading. “Like any other demigod life I guess? Awkward and lacking of a parental figure?” Amane grew up without a mom, then hit puberty and could manipulate sunlight. She assumed it was par for the course of being a demigod.
“I guess I might have to try and sign up for one of his classes or uh... I guess try to talk to him.” He nodded, trying to consider his options. As Amane briefly spoke up about her family life, he felt sort of... bad? Were other gods neglectful of their children? Was his relationship an exception? Should he even say that he was close? “Oh.. Uh. Yeah.” Shit, what should he say? What was appropriate to say in this situation? The appropriate online lingo would have been “lol same”. But this wasn’t in one of his MMOs or online forums. He paused for awhile before forcing himself to say at least something. “Do you uh... Know of other demigods around..?”

Carrie smiled, “Well I’m glad that you have enough of a relationship with your mother for her to give you a place to go. Crossroads really is the safest place for you.” She knew of many demigods that had zero relationship with their godly parent, and she loved when they had one. It showed that their parent cared about them, at least a little bit.
“I’m glad, too.” Don didn’t know of any other demigods yet -- at least not demigods that were in Crossroads. He thought back to how his mother came into his life and almost shuddered. While he was thankful that she was, the situation was less than grand. A quiet sigh escaped him before he turned back to look at the angel. “Can I ask you a uh.... personal.... question?” He didn’t know if it was taboo to ask angels about their lives, but, if she allowed it, he was going to try.
