Seeing Andrew from a perspective outside of Neil's is so fascinating because it really demonstrates just how quiet and detached from his surroundings he is. He fades into the background of Jeremy's POV especially, but Jean only notices him a bit more because he cares about Andrew's Exy career and his connection to Kevin and Neil.

Meanwhile when Neil is the narrator, he is sure to inform us of where Andrew is in any given scene and what Andrew is doing. For him, Andrew is the bright spot in every room, and when he is not present Neil feels his absence keenly.

Andrew also actively engages with Neil even when he's not speaking, through eye contact and fidgets and listening when Neil speaks. Pretty much everyone else (apart from Kevin) is ignored. Notice how, for example, the only time Andrew made a point to have a conversation with anyone in California was to ask Jean about Neil getting rid of Grayson.

It's such a brilliant way to show - not tell - how stupidly in love with each other they are.

The effect Neil has on people should be studied by scientists

neil allowing himself to be so easily moved by andrew when he fights tooth and nail against everybody else never fails to make me feel insane. like even people neil trusts / knows have good attentions he fights against, most notably wymack when he gets back from evermore. and then u have neil with andrew who he lets into his space so easily who can push him, pin him, grab him, and neil never flinches and never fights bcus the trust he has in him is so absolute.

i think its a really nice understated way to show the flipside of the whole "hey how'd you get andrew to do this thing?" "oh i just asked" dynamic because andrew is presented as this immovable wall that does what he wants and only what he wants to an unreasonable degree, and then throughout the series you see him "fold" for neil over and over again. so it's very easy to point at andrew and go "hey look at how special he treats neil" but by virtue of neil being the narrator you kinda forget that the opposite is happening as well.

Jeremy crashout this Kevin crashout that what I really want is a Thea crashout. Like truly can you imagine giving up your body and your mind and your entire adult life for something and you think you made it. You're the success story of the success stories. And then you find out that, actually, everything was a lie and people are trying to skirt around the fact that it makes you a victim not a victor. And the team you sacrificed everything for is now a mockery of itself. Oh, also, just before they put the final nail in the coffin of their reputation they gave away your dream of captaincy to someone else in a whim. Andrew was probably so suspicious of Erik at first.

Nicky, a depressed gay kid desperate to get away from his homophobic parents, goes to Germany to study abroad and lives with a host family.

His "host-brother" then becomes his boyfriend.

Every red flag and alarm bell probably went off for Andrew when he heard that.

Most worries were probably quelled when he got to know Erik more and saw he wasn't some creep taking advantage of Nicky, but was loving and not controlling or trying to isolate him and even supported Nicky's decision to leave for years to take care of his cousins as that was Nicky's rare chance to have a relationship with some members of his family.

But there was likely a murder plan in the works early on.

Obviously there is so much interesting in the Neil/Jean dynamic but what I'm currently obsessing over is the way Neil let's Jean see the tattered bloody and mad parts of Nathaniel Wesninski no one else gets to see.

Neil doesn't want the foxes to know Nathaniel, Kevin is too obsessed and too cowardly to want anything to do with him. Andrew would and does see him but his promises and the future they imply belong to Neil Josten

Other than Andrew, only Jean Moreau sees Neil without the mask, sees the madness in his smile, the casual and easy violence, the bloody heart that beats despite it all.

Like, yes its very funny when Jean calls Neil out for being an ill-bred cretin, but it's important to note he doesnt do that to be exaggerating or insulting, he does it because that's the side of him Neil let's him see that everybody else only gets flashes of. Jean is just calling what he's seeing not realizing most people don't get such a clear view.

Neil being called a rabbit? Let’s be clear please allow me, rabbits aren’t just cute, twitchy fluffballs. They’re energetic, speedy, jumpy little shits with no chill and the emotional range of a live grenade. They throw tantrums, stomp their feet like pissed off toddlers, and if they don’t like you, they will launch household items at your head.

Sure, bunnies might be prey to many predators dont get me wrong. They fight dirty. They’ll claw, bite, and body slam if you corner them. You think you’ve got the upper hand? Nah. You’re about to lose a finger.

Neil? Yeah, he might look like the shy little rabbit everyone wants to cuddle with, but that’s the bait. Underneath that wide eyed, twitchy-nosed exterior is a chaos gremlin with teeth. He’s cute, sure but he’ll wreck your shit with a smile and blame it on your bad vibes.

Another reason Aaron despises Neil is that he probably thought that they were becoming "friendly"

Due to his and Andrew's deal, Aaron could only have family, no friends. That was Andrew and Nicky, then expanded to include Kevin, and then the next year included Neil (even added to the family phone plan).

Neil hangs out with the monsters; sits with them, goes shopping with them, goes to Eden's with them, etc. Aaron got a list of single Vixen's for Neil to try to help this odd kid out socially. They looked out for Andrew together; Neil kicked down the door and Aaron killed Drake. Neil didn't tell Andrew about Katelyn like Aaron asked. They bonded a little over not telling Dobson anything.

Aaron, who had a lifetime of bad friends who used him to then no friends only family, thought he and Neil were becoming buddies or something.

And then Neil used him. He meddled with Aaron's relationship with Katelyn for his own gain. Yes, Neil's meddling got Andrew and Aaron in therapy together and started talking to each other, but Neil still used him.

That betrayal had to hurt.

Bro spent 10 months learning France French and then spent 8 months adding Qubecois into the fucking mix?????? Missed opportunity to give Jean-Yves Moreau an aneurism when he hears Neil's Parisian-Qubecois French for the first time. Its a miracle Kevin understands him at all.

Andrew doesn't care about the name minyard. The only reason he took it in the first place is because that is his brother's name. Aaron also doesn't care about the name once he comes to terms with how his mother treated him. When aaron and katelyn get married, aaron talks to andrew about changing his name to katelyns last name and of course andrew says do what you want. Fast forward to the wedding. Andrews gets up to give the best man speech and he just holds up a piece of paper and says. My last name is also mackenzie now. And sits back down.
