I like to dig through old stuff and I get excited about it, like a scruffy rat that lives in your attic nibbling away at your old comic book collection.

A collection of Sam & Max cartoon production art is archived in this google drive here. All were pieces of artwork sold by Animation Legends. Majority of these are scans whilst some others are photos taken by the people who purchased the artwork from the store.

Sullivan Entertainment's 'Sullivan Releasing' handled new VHS releases throughout Canada. At one point this included the Sam & Max cartoon on VHS in 1998. Here are the mentions of that acquisition from their own website, and their own official listing of the 'Y Files'. I'm assuming that July 1998 is the release date of the VHS, going by what the website says.

(Info about the different companies and their roles in the screenshot below)

#the cartoon#website findings#still debating on keeping that tag#the vhs#said this on twitter but considering this is from the official website of the company that distributed these videos; this is probablyyyy-#the most official upload of this cover's image online#aside from amazon

Sometime in 1998 you could get a free movie rental by taking a printed Sam & Max picture you had coloured in to a 'Pic-A-Flick' store. The colouring sheet was provided by Fox 21's website.

Around 1997-1998 on azfamily's website there was a Sam & Max 'coin game'. While the webpage for it has been archived, the image itself hasn't been. So we can't see the image that was meant to be printed out. The page describes the rules.

#website findings#the cartoon#print-out stuff#dunno how else to categorise this- i'm also gathering together all the colouring pages intended for download on archived sites but are#also missing the actual images

Animation Magazine May 1997 Issue
Best scan we’ll ever have of this cover for the magazine as it comes from the official website.
Source:
Animation Magazine’s website
Full Sam & Max pages are under the Read More.
#magazine stuff#the cartoon#It acts as if you could still buy these old issues and I dunno how that exactly would work#or if they just custom print it for you and send it but the shipping was too pricy for me to test that.#It doesn’t sound too outrageous when I say it like that but I don’t know many (or really any) magazine websites that do that.#i hope posting just the sam & max pages wont make them upset with me please have mercy#pretty sure there's like a lil sam & max picture on the index page but it's nothing big but i can get that scanned too iirc#my own scans

Animation World's September 1997 issue had Sam & Max on the cover, and talked about the upcoming cartoon at several points (such as the program used for the show, Animo). It also asked Steve Purcell what ten films he'd take with him if stranded on a deserted island.
The pages mentioning Sam and Max are under the read more, if you wanna see the whole magazine PDF yourself you can see it here.

Sources: Animation World Magazine - September 1997 PDF link: Here.
#the cartoon#magazine stuff#the website for this magazine (both random archived ones and the official one) still have articles with the exact text and images in them u#but its really nice to have the magazine pdf link still here#which from my own understanding (that could be wrong) isn't available directly on their website#you gotta look for it specifically and find the link on a google search#anyway here it is!

An earlier instance of Sam & Max being mentioned on the Fox Kids Countdown radio show (after its theme song played).
#the cartoon#fox kids countdown#i cut to the end of the theme because this was mostly focused on Chris Leary bringing up Sam and Max

I'm Donut Button! - I like to dig through content of the things I'm obsessed with for hours and then showing everyone that stuff.
Don't take this as a 'professional' research account, 99% of what I post isn't gonna be new discoveries. I just like to dig up old things and learn a bit more about this franchise when I can, then post about it and go on lengthy rambles. Like a diary or image dumping ground. Enjoy!(?)
(The most it'll ever come to 'new discoveries' is when I post my own scans and files of stuff I've somehow got my hands on that haven't been posted before to my own knowledge)
If you wanna send asks or submissions, send and/or ask away! A, B, seein' ya!

Apparently a press kit shirt made for the 97-98 season of Fox Kids cartoons. And you can probably guess from the fact that it's featured on this blog- Sam & Max are on it.
Sources: Ebay Listing - '1998 Fox Kids Marvel Comics Silver Surfer Cartoon Press Kit Shirt - Marvelmania!'
#sam and max#the cartoon#press kit#very high chance that the listing was just talking about the separate silver surfer press kit included in here and wasn't calling the shirt#-that but eh

For PC Gamer's March 2008 issue (#172), it had a demo disk that had an image of Max when he and Sam were trying to get into the war room in 104. Fitting as that's the episode featured on the disk.

A funny picture used in some publications talking about season one of these games. (Left the watermark on the last 3 because these aren't my scans and those ones originally had the watermark on them, source to the scans are linked below)
Sources: 1st Page - Unknown (Found in an ebay listing that didn't state what magazine the page came from) Last 3 Pages - Games for Windows December 2006 issue
#sam and max#the games#the telltale games#Big thanks to a friend I was speaking to when I was trying to find what the first page's source was#and he found this other magazine's scans after we spent a bit digging around.#I have been contacting a few people asking for the sources of things so I will update this if I get an answer!

Fox 43's official kids club web page ('Pete McTee's Clubhouse') had a section dedicated to displaying panels of the Sam & Max comic 'The Kids Take Over!' back in the day.
Sources: Pete McTee's Clubhouse Comic's page
