Continuation of Kafmina Love Child AU Part 3

As Hoshina devised a very cute idea to surprise the Captain, Kafka was getting increasingly worried for Mina and their little kaiju/human child. He doesn’t know if the child is going to come out human or kaiju or both. Plus, this is the first kaiju/human pregnancy to happen and it’s happening to Mina. He never meant for her to get pregnant! He didn’t even know he could get someone pregnant.

(🔞It’s way more surprising to Kafka because it wasn’t the first time they had sex without a condom and Mina wasn’t on any form of birth control.)

And now Mina is carrying this thing without any precedent or experience???

As if pregnancy was hard enough, add freaky kaiju shit and it’s impossible to tell.

Kafka goes from excitement to self loathing about it.

But when he was done being ridiculed, Hoshina gave him a pat on the back for good luck.

Hoshina didn’t come up with the idea but he agreed to it. Reno came up with the plan to get a little gift basket baby things for Kafka and the Captain as a show of support for the new parents.

The others joined in by adding their own contribution to the basket and gifted it to a weepy eye Kafka. In the midst of his heart squeeze, he dropped a bombshell

Dialogue:

Kafka: Aw, you guys…

Reno: We got this gift basket for you and the Captain for the baby.

Kafka: I’m sure she’ll love it!

Everyone:😄

Kafka: And I’m sure Mina will like it too!

Everyone: *confused*

Kafka:…what?

Kikoru: Who are you talking about?

Kafka: *realizes what he said* Oh! I-I mean Mina! I totally mean her! She’s gonna love this!

Everyone: *still confused*

Aoi:…that baby is a girl, isn’t it?

Cue the rest of them badgering the kaiju father to be for being the worst at keeping things to himself.

They made a pact to not tell the Captain they know the gender of her baby.

Everything is going a-okay. Mina is having a hard time adjusting to having very little to do in her first week of maternity leave, but she’s managing.

During a subjugation mission, Mina was observing in the operation room along with Okonogi when she suddenly felt an intense pain in her stomach.

She knew she was going into labor but her stubbornness kept her from reaching out for help to see through with this mission.

Okonogi noticed the Captain grunting and when she went to check on her, Okonogi stepped in a puddle of water that wasn’t there before. Mina didn’t have a water bottle anywhere and so she asked if Mina was ok which Mina responded poorly and fell to her knees in pain.

Okonogi immediately rushed to pull the Captain to her feet and alerted the medical bay about the Captain’s condition.

She then spoke to Hoshina over the comms about the Captain’s water breaking and before he could say anything, Kafka just sprinted past him and out of his sight.

Hoshina is immediately telling everyone the news and grabs Reno and Kikoru to take them to the base before Kafka reaches there first.

Realizing at the speed they’re going, they won’t be get there in time, Hoshina called for reinforcements.

Just as Kafka was about to set foot on the base, Narumi comes out of nowhere to stab Kafka straight into the ground while other officers chain up Kafka’s arms and legs to restrain him until more manpower arrive.

POV: You’re Mina and Hoshina watching Kafka about to lose his ability to walk for the next week

I wanna say bullshit again

Master strategist Kafka AU: Kafka (not a kaiju yet) got in the Defense Force on his first try not because of his strength but because of his kaiju knowledge but it wasn’t Hoshina who let him in because he ain’t here yet. After a while he started to notice patterns (IDK what those are I literally made this up on the spot but anyway) and slowly he started to piece together things and suddenly he can predict when and where a kaiju will appear. People evacuate and the defense force is on the kaiju’s ass before it could unleash its full potential. Kafka is recognized as a pretty good strategist and is moved to the main HQ where he gets promoted to lead strategist (again this is the bullshit talking so I don’t know if this a thing in the current story) and he blows everyone away at how accurate his predictions are. Kafka even moves on to forming plans on how to defeat a kaiju based on whatever schematics he finds because he is just that good.

When Mina enlists, the first time she has to fire her giant gun on a kaiju, she freezes up but Kafka comes on the comm and encourages Mina to shoot her shot, indirectly being by her side as they promised each other as kids. (I think Mina and Kafka will still not fight side by side physically but it’s better than nothing). She shoots down the kaiju and Kafka is so damn proud of her.

Every now and then Kafka and Mina meet up and just talk because they find solace in each other besides Hoshina and because the story did Mina dirty by not giving more ample info on her time in the Defense Force so I’m doing it myself because I just want these two to actually talk and rekindle their friendship. And I’m very critical about the story for so many reasons so this is my way of coping for missed opportunities on other characters.

(Also Kafka has gauntlets like Isao bc he may not be strong with guns but he does have the strength of a giant class kaiju when applied correctly. Kafka then turns into a kaiju and suddenly it’s the main story.)

Y’know even though the setting in Kaiju No.8 is supposed to be in the 2020s, I can’t help but picture Kafka and Mina being 80s and 90s babies. Kafka’s game console is the main reason since a game console like that immediately gives me 90s vibes. Like imagine Kafka getting excited over old fashion games even in his thirties because there’s not a lot of the classics today. Plus the fashion of those eras have me imaging Mina with 90s hair despite not having a clear visual of what 90s hair is. Also Soshiro meeting lil Kafka and Mina but not remembering cause they were so little.

I just remembered about that Godzilla and Mothra movie and now I’m just picturing Mina getting a moth themed combat suit that has guns to match Kafka’s kaiju form in a romantic sense. Despite my negative feelings for Mina, I still like the idea of her getting a special number suit just to match the rest of the main crew.

Question for the Kaiju No.8 fandom: do you think because of all of the kaijus and destruction caused by them, that home owners and business owners have a kaiju insurance policy? Like if you lose your home during a kaiju attack, you get an extra special something? I thought way too hard and long on the world building in the series. We already have monster sweepers which is a first for me but imagine the other things that can happen if kaijus happened so often it would just be part pf their everyday life. I’m pretty sure insurance is the same no matter the circumstances.

I need to talk more about my Hoshikafmina bebes bc they’re precious lil gals who accidentally became important at their jobs at only 15 and 13 years old.

Kimiko is a mini Mina with Kafka’s personality. The self proclaimed future olympic soccer captain whom loves italian food and gummy candy. She’s the big sister and has done the “gravity is increasing on me” bit on Kuriko. Will walk into Kuriko’s room and act suspicious then turn off the lights and leave. Has knocked on Kuriko’s door with her foot.

Kuriko is a wee ballerina with the aura of a popular idol. Gets asked out at least once a week. Has watched too many American Hallmark movies and now thinks that’s how America is. Will eat the last mochi and put the box back just to annoy her sister. Has pulled on Kimiko’s ponytail more than once. Hogs Bakko like a beanbag chair.

Both girls get recruited in the Defense Force bc their combat power is insane and apparently there’s no rules against minors joining, which shouldn’t be needed, but now due to circumstances, need to established. Kuriko is Mina and Soshiro combined with more power in her blasts than swords but she likes the swords more. Kimiko isn’t allowed to use anything because her very first try with a combat suit completely destroyed it and now it’s useless, even as scrap. She’s also the reason there’s a new class of kaiju.

Both girls hate it and luckily, they’re allowed to be as disrespectful as they want since the new General Director is an ass and nothing he says will get the girls to listen.

Kimiko is also the first to go over 100% in combat power. It’s why the suit stopped working.

There is way more to this but I need to share these two lil mfs because they’re plaguing my every thought.

Gen Narumi is the Jake Peralta of the Defense Force

Mina Ashiro fans, I’m gonna say some more controversial stuff because I genuinely am trying to find any reason to like her and it’s just a hassle at this point.

I really think the moment when Mina saw a broken and bleeding Kafka on screen, having broken several bones and nearly losing his life in just a test really should’ve opened her eyes and see that Kafka was literally destroying himself just to join the Defense Force. At this point, after 12 attempts and rejections, Mina shouldn’t be glaring at Kafka but be horrified to see her friend from childhood desperately reach her and see that in doing so, he would no doubt be killed whether by himself or a kaiju, and Mina should just say give up if it meant he would live. Was it really worth keeping a promise from childhood if it meant one of you has to die to fulfill that? Can Mina really consider herself a good friend if she saw someone she cared for lose his life just to be by her side? Can she live with that guilt if something were to happen to Kafka because he didn’t have any kind of special power and if he wasn’t a kaiju? There’s a reason why Kafka wasn’t accepted until the 13th time.

Guys, I’m really trying here. Mina is a complex person but it doesn’t mean I have to like her. I like complex characters but god she’s just the first to really grind my nerves because of how she was written.

My brainrot has left behind some wacky parent Hoshikafmina because I have made up their own little rascals named Kimiko (Kafmina bebe) and Kuriko (Hoshimina bebe) in this AU I’ve got going on. Here are some headcanons because I really like this family and their weirdness. Also this post kaiju and Soshiro and Mina have regular jobs with Kafka as a house husband and a SAHD

* When Mina gave birth to Kimiko, Kafka transformed and stared in awe at Kimiko for hours. Mina woke up to a kaiju looking at her baby.

* Soshiro never let go of Kuriko after she was born. All baby related things were done exclusively by him, even feeding with a bottle and pumped milk.

* Mina hates pumping. She feels like a cow with those things on.

* Kafka took cooking classes since he wanted to improve his dad skills and because no one else wanted to. Mina is not allowed in the kitchen and Soshiro is only good with knives.

* Both times Mina was pregnant, Bakko got insanely overprotective and nipped Kafka and Soshiro whenever they got too close to Mina’s belly.

* Sometimes Kimiko will wake Kafka up for warm milk and each time, Kafka obeys her.

* The girls love Bakko and he lets them do whatever they want.

* When Soshiro was introducing Kuriko to their friends for the first time, he did the Lion King scene with live music.

* Mina buys all of the girls’ clothes. Every single piece has a cat on it.

* On days off, Mina will put on a cat onesie and just lounge around with both girls.

* One time, Kafka fell asleep while watching the girls and Kimiko snatched a pair of scissors and cut off half of Kuriko’s bangs. Kafka woke up in time to take away the scissors before it could escalate. He tried to see a hairdresser but the best they could do was make it look nice. Mina yelled at him when she came home.

* When Kuriko was teething, she only bit Soshiro whenever he held her. She did it to no one else. He puts her in blanket jail when she does that.

* It is said that if you put down anything at knee level in the house, both girls will put it in their mouths. No one knows why.

* The girls cannot be left unsupervised for even a second cause they will disappear to only god knows where.

* Kafka once mentioned how hard it is to get the girls to eat anything new and Iharu took that as a challenge. He, along with Ichikawa, Shinomiya and Minase took turns trying to give new foods to the girls but to no avail. It was only when Shinomiya discovered a kids tv show about healthy eating did they discover the girls will only eat new foods if the show told them to.

* When Kuriko first started crawling, she would follow only Kimiko around.

* Soshiro has a really bad relationship with his dad after he rejected Kuriko (let’s assume old misogynistic traditional favoritism). The only time his dad ever came willingly to see Kuriko was for his own benefit.

* Narumi only came once to see the girls and he immediately made fun of Kuriko because she looks too much like Soshiro. Mina almost smacked him.

* Despite Soshiro being Kuriko’s main caretaker, she still sees Mina as her go to person for cuddles.

* One time, Kafka woke up to make breakfast but soon discovered Narumi on the couch eating instant ramen while watching tv. Soshiro almost got the spray bottle.

* Narumi calls Kuriko “Little Mushroom”

* At the end of Shinomiya and Ichikawa’s wedding, all three parents were so tired from the celebration and the ride back, they all forgot the girls in the car and remembered it before they all collectively passed out.

* Because the girls love strawberries so much, Kafka used it as a tool to teach the girls numbers.

* Mina’s got the mom glare.

* Kafka is the go to for warm cuddles.

* Soshiro has cute aggression for Kuriko everyday.

* A common phrase in their household is “where are the girls?”

* Sometimes, on those rare times when Mina and Soshiro both have the day off, they all will get in their pajamas and gather all the blankets and pillows they can, make a nest on the couch, grab snacks and drinks, and just watch movies for the rest of the day with the girls.

* Even though Mina gave birth to the girls, Kafka is mother.

* Whenever the girls fight, it escalates into three stages. First stage; the screaming. It starts over something small that can easily die down by the afternoon. Kafka, Mina and Soshiro have learned not to interfere at this stage since it can get worse with outside help. If the screaming doesn’t stop, then it escalates to the second stage; the nitpicks. This stage becomes more about annoying each other with every little thing they can do from Kimiko eating the last of the mochi and putting the box in its place to Kuriko turning off the lights in Kimiko’s room. It migrates into dinner time where the girls swipe whatever food they can to annoy each other. A quick slap to their wrists from their dads and a warning from their mom about no dessert usually gets the girls under control. After the dinner, the girls will make up and put the fight behind them. In the rare case when it doesn’t end that way, then it goes into the last and most chaotic stage: the fight. Everything will be fine one second and in the next, when both girls will reach for the same thing at the same time, all hell brakes loose. But before anything could be thrown, Kafka and Soshiro will grab the girls and plop them on the couch so Mina can interrogate to find the root of the problem.

* When Mina took the girls shopping, Kafka and Soshiro took a long nap.

* Kimiko didn’t like Kuriko when she was a newborn. She even drew on her face with Mina’s lipstick and locked her in the supply closet.

* Kafka and Mina had no idea what to call their daughter until Kafka saw Kimiko on a magazine and just went with that.

* Kuriko didn’t find out about her name’s meaning until she had a mont blanc with her dad.

* Soshiro and Kafka are Dad Jokes machines.

* Narumi to this day thinks Kuriko has it out for him. Even as a three year old toddler, Kuriko was smart enough to cover herself in dirt and lay flat on the ground before she hysterically cried out for her parents, causing Narumi was watching her (as if) to get in trouble for letting a baby girl hurt herself.

Continuation of Kafmina Love Child AU

I had to look up a lot of pregnancy facts and it has left me mentally scarred from the horror stories.

Mina wakes up after experiencing the worst stomach pains ever and is greeted by some of the higher ups, including Hasegawa.

They waste no time and immediately advise Mina to terminate the pregnancy.

Mina, however, hesitates.

(This is where it gets ooc)

She never thought much about motherhood and babies since her job is so demanding and dangerous, the idea of having a baby was out of the question. Besides, there wasn’t any potential candidate to have said baby with as she is married to her job.

But now, after reuniting with Kafka and having a more than friendly night together, she was now pregnant.

It didn’t seem possible that a kaiju could impregnate a human, but she was living proof it was.

Seeing the hesitation on her face, Hasegawa ushered the other men out to let Mina think more about her decision since at the end of the day, it was Mina’s body.

The rest of the main cast were worried about their captain and friend.

Hoshina came to remind them about supporting the Captain in whatever decision she made. That statement didn’t really help them.

Kafka was taken away to be examined again and was in a deep sleep.

Finally, Mina made the decision to keep the pregnancy (still iffy in the details why).

After discussing the details about the pregnancy, the higher ups agreed to let Mina keep her baby under the condition that if the baby harms Mina’s health, it would be immediately terminated.

This also marks the start of the first human/kaiju pregnancy and a wacky live experiment that everyone has to deal with.

The rest of the officers are shocked but still supportive of the Captain’s decision.

When Kafka wakes up, he is informed by Okonogi about Mina’s decision.

He rushes to see her and gets on his knees and starts apologizing for knocking her up. (This man is too pure to not apologize if he accidentally impregnated someone). He never meant to do that and he was willing to receive whatever punishment she had in store for him, even being ok with termination. He was terrified the pregnancy, whatever he put inside her, was going to hurt her or worse.

Mina found his cries pitifully hilarious.

She assured him it was fine and she was ok with carrying it to term. But she asked him if he wanted to be involved.

Another dialogue:

Mina: Do you want to be involved?

Kafka: Involved?

Mina: Kafka, do you want to be a dad?

Kafka: Uhh…

Mina: I’m doing this with or without you. If you want to be involved, then you’re a father. If not, then you’re simply a donor. I’m not going to force you to be a father if you don’t want to be.

Kafka had to take an entire day to think about it. Some of the other officers (ie; Kikoru, Reno, Iharu) had some not so nice things to say to Kafka (some of them genuinely mean and the rest are said because they’re afraid of almost losing Kafka bc of this).

Kafka comes back and decides to be a part of the baby’s life (also iffy on the why part).

Thus begins the first trimester of Mina’s pregnancy.

Here’s where it gets comedic.

Cravings are so weird for Mina. They’re weird in general but it goes up to a 12 for her. First off, she doesn’t even need to ask for anything and Kafka already knows what she wants. This is tested by the researchers and it is documented that Kafka is way more receptive to Mina’s own feelings than he realizes. Not just in food but in her moods, her health and her safety. They also had Kafka give two sperm samples (one human, one kaiju) just to see how his sperm work. (Kafka hated it with a passion).

Back to the cravings. Mina is hungry for the most unusual food combinations like pudding with soy sauce (not sure if this is a thing but go with it). But the most unusual craving is meat. Not kaiju meat, but way more meat than recommended by the OBGYN. (I wanna believe there is an OBGYN for the Defense Force for the women, but I also picture the Defense Force just hiring someone qualified and forcing them to sign an NDA if the kaiju details were discussed.)

Mina is just having the time of her life being tended hand and foot by her kaiju partner who does these things without thinking (bc Kafka has a smooth brain, no ridges or lumps, or valleys or bumps.)

Even the rest of the Third Division takes on more work to lessen their Captain’s load. Hoshina is working overtime to give Mina the rest she needs.

The kitchen is accommodating as best as they can to Mina’s appetite.

Other things like mood swings happen frequently and if Mina is suddenly crying bc someone said the wrong thing, it’s on sight.

For the most part, everything seems normal. Regular check ups and an overprotective Kafka keep Mina at bay as her belly grows.

This is where it gets steamy 😏 🔞

It’s very common and encouraged to have sex during pregnancy (I forgot why but docs say it’s okay within reason) but it gets intense when Mina feels those urges come on out of nowhere.

I have a specific scene where Mina is meeting with the female officers (Nakanoshima, Hakua, Kikoru, and Minase) but she suddenly gets very hot and bothered for no reason.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the base, Kafka is getting his regular check up down when he suddenly feels his pants get tighter. He looks down and is mortified. Okonogi also sees what’s going on before Kafka transforms and bolts again.

Mina tells everyone to leave now but before they could question why, Kafka is already speeding past them to Mina who yells at them to fuck off.

Dialogue because it’s funnier this way:

Nakanoshima: What the hell?!

Kikoru: That damn Hibino! Taking up the Captain’s time just because he’s the father to her baby.

Minase: Don’t blame this on Mr.Hibino. It must be important if Captain Ashiro-

*Moaning and the sounds of skin slapping echo from the door*

Minase: *blushes* O-oh!

Kikoru: *blushes* Eww!

Nakanoshima: We should leave-!

Hakua: Don’t gotta tell me twice!

Hoshina laughs hysterically after they explain the sudden intrusion.

To torture his officers, Hoshina periodically sends an unwilling person to check to see if the two are done with their little bang session.

It lasted three hours.

(I kind of picture Kafka and Mina having a deep conversation about their plan for the baby and how they feel about each other. It’s a very vulnerable and intimate moment to share as they lay naked under Kafka’s jacket.)

From then on is a just a bunch of nonsense.

Until Iharu asks what the baby’s name will be.

At this point, Kafka doesn’t have a clue about the name. He hasn’t thought much about it. In fact, during this whole pregnancy, neither parent actually thought about the celebrations that came with a baby.

There was no doubt this pregnancy was just an experiment permitted by the higher ups to see if a kaiju/human baby could exist. Kafka isn’t blind to the possibility the baby will be taken away as a result, if the baby will survive that is. Even if it survives, he will have no idea how it will look like. If it comes out more kaiju than human, then it will be treated like a monster.

The cons were starting to infest Kafka’s rationale and he suffered intense guilt not only for putting Mina in this position, but also how his child will be perceived by the general public if it comes out looking inhuman.

Kafka really tries to not blame himself too much for this, but he really regrets not having a condom.

He also realizes that Mina never brought up the idea of a baby shower. Or a name.

It turns out Mina is also afraid of the outcome of this pregnancy. She guilts herself into thinking she’s selfish for wanting this at the expense of the baby. It’s a twist and turn for both parents to suddenly realize the cold grim reality of what this baby could mean.

(I never said this was in character. Just a bunch of thoughts jumbling together.)

(They’re both so bad at expressing their feelings.)

(Also there are sonograms being done to show the baby’s progress and while it is grainy af it doesn’t show anything abnormal at this point.)

During one group training session, Iharu wanted to start a bet on the gender on the baby. He guessed girl. Kikoru didn’t want to participate but Iharu egged her on and she said boy.

The others got involved and it got out of hand way too fast.

Hoshina saw this and ordered another ten laps as punishment.

But he started to form a very evil (and cute) idea.

End of Part 2

I’m a yapper and a yapper’s gotta do what a yapper’s gotta do.

This is gonna be about Kafka and his potential kaiju/human children.

I’ve seen a couple of fics and art about Kafka fathering a kid with Mina, Soshiro, Narumi and whoever and it turns out fine and everyone is happy, but I seriously doubt the Defense Force is gonna let a kaiju go, let alone the child of the most powerful daikaiju to ever exist.

I’ve got my own Kafka love child story and it involves Mina, cell synchronization, and some strange coincidences.

The way I picture a potential child ever happening is if Kafka mated with someone, Mina in this case, but only when he is in his kaiju form. I can’t help but think his little swimmers are different in his human form than in his kaiju form.

One thing leads another and Mina ends up pregnant but neither one knows about it. I picture Mina just having the usual morning sickness and pregnancy cravings that come with pregnancy but she brushes it off as a stomach bug. At first, it was minor. But then Kafka started to get weird.

He would bring little snacks to Mina and if he couldn’t do it himself then he asks someone else to do it for him. He also got strangely protective of Mina during some missions. During a giant class kaiju attack, Mina was gonna ready her gun but as soon as she activated her suit, her stomach started to hurt and it became so bad she collapsed. Kafka, without being told to, transforms and one shots the kaiju without warning.

It gets worse the next week. Kafka is taken to be examined for any kaiju irregularities and Mina is encouraged to see the medical bay for a checkup but she insists she’s fine.

The rest of the Third Division find Mina either throwing up or eating some strange concoction of god only knows what while saying she’s fine (I really think Mina just doesn’t want to bother people with her problems, but not even Hoshina is getting to her).

It all blows up during a joint sparring session between Mina, Hoshina, Reno and Kikoru while wearing their respective kaiju suits (bare with me here I have no clue if this is something that can happen but that’s what AUs are for)

Just when Mina was about to shoot her gun, her stomach started to hurt again and she collapsed again. During this sparring session, Kafka was being examined again by the researchers but in the middle of it, he transformed again and bolted straight out.

Back at the Third Division (let’s assume Kafka was being examined in the First Division), Hoshina was about to help Mina but N.10 stopped him. The same thing happens to Reno and Kikoru when they go to help. But as soon as the medics come into the scene, Kafka bursts in and immediately attacks the medics for getting too close to Mina.

It’s an intense standoff between Kafka and the rest of the soldiers trying to convince him to let them through so they can help the Captain. But Kafka isn’t the one in control. It was No.8.

Hoshina tries to reason with No.10 but he ain’t listening. No.10 is simply watching No.8 as he swipes a claw at a soldier who got too close for No.8’s liking. No.10 knows what’s going on, but he isn’t aware that the humans don’t know.

I don’t have a proper summary for the reveal so it’s just a dialogue between Hoshina and No.10:

No.10: *hums*

Hoshina: No.10… release me… I have to help… *grunts* the Captain!

No.10: We must not!

Hoshina: What?!

No.10: We. Must. Not. Interfere! Or we will be killed.

Hoshina: The hell do you mean?!

No.10: Do you really not see it?

Hoshina: See what?!

No.10: The one you call “Captain”… carries the spawn of No.8…

(Let’s assume everyone hears this)

Okonogi: Are you saying… Captain Ashiro is pregnant?!

Suddenly, everything clicks. The sickness, the cravings, Kafka hovering over Mina, everything.

After some more convincing by Mina, No.8 reluctantly let only the female medics near Mina and they whisked her away with No.8 trailing after but Mina relaxed and suddenly No.8 de transformed back to Kafka and passed out.

Back on bullshit post

Something I wanted to KN8 series to explore for just a bit was how the JAKDF has internal issues regarding the prodigies and how they seem to put Mina on this pedestal to show her strength as an officer and a captain when she just started. I haven’t read much of the B-Side stories but Mina still had her bobcut from when she first joined. It got me thinking about how quickly did she become a captain? I know her own power was a game changer when it comes to giant size kaiju but was that just enough reason she became a captain? The series mention how captains’ unleash combat power ranges from 80-100, anyone with that kind of combat power could be a candidate for captain. Narumi had to work at it too like but I feel like he had an easier time adjusting to the Captain title because he had Isao when Mina had no one to guide her. From the moment Mina showed her power in guns, it went downhill from there, despite it looking like it got better for her. From my perspective, it seems like a lot of characters (Reno, Kikoru) have had to train from the start with rifles before moving on to specialized weapons that suited their needs as their combat power increased. Hoshina was already great with swords and probably had a combat power that was getting to that Captain level but no one had the trust and faith to give him a chance but Mina did? It seems that the Defense Force made her captain to show the public they can trust Mina to take down kaijus without help. To make it worse for Mina, not only did they forced her to shoulder that responsibility, but they also made her the poster child for the Defense Force by putting her face on build boards to encourage people to join the Defense Force because Mina is so strong she is the hero of their generation. Why not put Narumi, the literal strongest soldier in the ranks, as said poster child? Maybe it’s because of his attitude, but if so why not anyone else? Why just Mina? Why only her?

I’m back on my bullshit

I know I said I don’t like Mina Ashiro and that remains true, but I gotta ask something since the manga is ending soon.

Are we ever gonna see that spear looking weapon that Mina holds in the opening? Y’know this one⬇️

I feel like this would’ve been a good chance for Mina to learn some short range combat skills to protect herself in case she doesn’t have a gun. Maybe it wouldn’t been much but it could’ve been something to keep her out of harm’s way enough for Hoshina to come and back her up. Like there is so much left unanswered. I know this was probably just how Kafka imagined the two of them would be in the Defense Force but it would’ve been interesting

I wanna say something controversial.

Mina ain’t that great of a friend to Kafka. She calls him a liar when he doesn’t get into the Defense Force, for not fulfilling his end of their deal to kill kaijus together. They both envisioned themselves as someone great (Kafka wants to be a captain with a sword and gun and Mina wanted to save everyone) but the reality is way different.

If Kafka not getting into the Defense Force makes him a liar, then Mina’s a liar too for not saving everyone. Which was an impossible goal to begin with. Mina shouldn’t be mad at Kafka for something he couldn’t be or do when she saw him try 12 times just to end up being rejected each time. She doesn’t have the right to call him a liar when she didn’t fulfill her end of the deal either. Plus when Kafka does try again, he is in critical danger of organ damage and broken bone but still presses on just to not disappoint her. Talk about desperation. Also, him thinking he hurt Mina when he wasn’t the one who witnessed any of the responsibilities being shoved on to her just makes no sense. He couldn’t have hurt her when he wasn’t even there to see it!

I want to like her. I have never met a character i didn’t like until her so my mind has been on this loop going through the whys and the hows. Maybe my own life is influencing my disliking towards her or just I don’t like the lack of development with her or some other reason but Mina irks so badly. Heck, with all this negative feelings I have for her, I started to warm up to Kikoru who I also previously didn’t like but understood her character.

Can anyone help be less hostile towards Mina just so I can have a peace of mind for once?
