Intro

As they trudged across campus - late for class and growing later - Ezra kicked the winter slush at Jai for insisting on this unusual detour. They finally entered the warm, fragrant coffee shop, and Ezra was brushing the fresh flurries off of his jacket when all of his protests and his friend’s smug grin faded away. There, behind the counter, she was practically glowing as an overhead light shone on her lavender hair and golden eyes; and even though Ezra didn’t drink coffee, he vowed he would start just to be in on the joke behind her smirk. 

Speaking Love Languages

“Why do you guys go out of your way to spend so much on those drinks?” Zare asked. “Because I appreciate good coffee,” Jai replied with a satisfied sip. “And I,” said Ezra, “do not appreciate good coffee, but I do like the cute little loth cats they draw on the cups.” Jai and Zare exchanged a smirk, and then Jai showed Ezra his doodle-less cup. “Wait. So…that’s not like…a thing…that they do?” Ezra asked, and his friends shook their heads. “Gotta go,” he said. Zare watched as Ezra ran back towards Blue Beans. “It’s the Mando girl, isn’t it?” “It’s the Mando girl,” Jai confirmed with another satisfied sip.

Though he was great with customers, as Sabine helped Ezra fumble through making drinks, she wondered what had given him the idea to work in a coffee shop. He didn’t know anything about coffee. He didn’t even like drinking it. When she looked up from her thoughts over the steam wand, Ezra caught her eye, and his lopsided grin confirmed her suspicions.  At the end of his training, Ezra beamed as Sabine pressed a loth cat sticker onto his name tag. “It was great that the manager let you take over my training, Sabine,” he said. With a slow smile, she gave the name tag a final pat, but her hand lingered there. Ezra’s breath hitched. “Yeah,” she said, “You know, I think you’re finally getting the hang of this.” With a wink, she gave him a little shove, and they both grinned as she walked away.

“So…hey…umm…I really liked your loth cat doodles,” Ezra said. “They’re really good. Are you an artist or something?” Sabine’s sigh ruffled her bangs. “No. I’m a wannabe art student majoring in engineering because my parents said I need a career,” she said with air quotes and an eye roll. “So sometimes pent up art just happens whenever inspiration strikes.” Ezra’s eyebrows rocketed skyward. “Or…y’know…ahem...we have a really good marker on hand. Or. Something." Ezra dropped one eyebrow as Sabine turned away to answer a conveniently timed drive thru call. At the beginning of her next shift, Sabine smiled - and blushed and cringed a little - when she found a whole rainbow of brand new markers at the cup station.

Fixing Something

“Don’t worry,” said Ezra. “I got this.” He set about repairing their espresso machine, and in no time, it roared back to life. Leaning on the counter, he twirled the wrench in his hand, a cocky grin on his face as he watched Sabine hustle to catch up on their drink orders. “So you’re handy, huh?” Sabine asked, and Ezra shrugged. “I’ve been known to tinker,” he said casually. Sabine chuckled. “Oh? Should we call you Tinkerbe-” “-NO! No. No no no,” Ezra interrupted. “That’s not necessary. Let’s just…uhh…get back to work. Shall we?” Ezra rubbed the back of his neck as Sabine chuckled again.

Sharing Food

“Here,” Sabine said, offering a cup to Ezra. “You should try this.” Ezra grimaced. “Uhhh…what is it?” “Just try it,” she insisted with a smile. “I think you’ll like it.” “I dunno, Sabine. Honestly, I’m not too crazy about most of the drinks we-” “Ezra. Just…trust me.” She put the warm cup in his hand. “Alright,” he said. Gingerly he sipped, and then his eyes lit up as he took another full one. “Sabine! You’re right! This is delicious! I can’t believe I finally found coffee that I like! What kind is this?” Sabine smiled and patted him on the shoulder. “It’s hot chocolate.”

Hi Sabezra community.

Am I an English speaker? No. That's why I apologize in advance for the crimes against the English language that I'm going to commit next. But I still hope you can understand me. I'm not even sure anyone will see this.

It's been a while since I came here to find people who love the same things as me. Like a refuge from the outside world. I planned to post something only when I had something interesting to share with you all, like a video edit or fanart. Things so we could have fun together.  The current circumstances didn't allow me to do anything for now, so I was just following things as a spectator.

Seeing all this ship war going on, made me feel like I wanted to get away from all social media, so I wouldn't see these things anymore.  I also felt scared to express my love for this ship too. I'm scared to post this now.

Even my mother noticed that something was bothering me.  She asked me several times what I had.  I didn't want to tell her, because she's also a Star Wars fan and I don't want her to know everything that's going on. I want her to continue watching our favorite shows without thinking about negative things.

I want to get the hell away from it all, but for once, I would like to post this to all the Sabezra shippers who are receiving free hate. I think you guys need some love after suffering so much hate and I need to get out how I'm feeling. Because that's all I can do for now.

This whole time, I saw your fanart, I saw your video edits and I read many of the beautiful fanfics you wrote (I confess that I haven't read them all yet, it's due to lack of time, but I loved everything I read).

I see everyone putting so much love into what they do. And I can't ask you to continue, because I myself don't know if I'll ever be able to post anything in the future. But to be honest, I don't want you to stop.  Am I being cowardly and selfish? Perhaps, but it's the truth.

But I'm here to remind you that not all Sabezra shippers are so active on social media, but we exist.

I've been a Star Wars fan for a few years and only watched Rebels during the pandemic. I started shipping Sabezra since then.

I was so happy that the Ahsoka series exists. And now I couldn't even watch Ahsoka or Rebels (I tend to rewatch the things I like many times). Because every time I try to watch it I'm reminded of this whole ship war that's going on.

So I decided to talk to a friend. He is also a Star Wars fan (and a fan of Rebels, which I recommended to him), but he doesn't follow things that happen on social media. We always talk about Star Wars, but we never talked about ships.  But today I asked him what he thought of Ezra and Sabine.

He is my childhood friend and we practically grew up together, so I thought: "If he sees Sabine and Ezra as just friends/siblings, just like he and I are, maybe I'm seeing too much in the interactions between Sabine and Ezra and and I should just stop shipping them." 

But to my surprise he also ships Sabezra. He said that you can see in the exchange of looks between them that there is something (In fact, my friend and I never look at each other the same way Sabine and Ezra look at each other). And he thinks Sabine is in love with Ezra.

The same case happens with my mother, who also loves Rebels and watches everything from SW since when she was young, but without following all the discussions that happen on the internet.  When we watched Ahsoka, she said she thought Sabine liked Ezra since Rebels.  She said this without me saying anything about shipping them.  And when I asked her if she thought it was wrong to ship them, she said no and said she thinks they will be together someday.  (I know, this may never happen, but hearing this from my mom warmed my little heart)

Even a friend of mine who isn't a fan, just watches casually, asked me if Sabine had a crush on Ezra.

Talking to these people from outside made me feel better, because this may not have been the intention of Dave and the others, but you can see that, based on common sense, no one can blame us for shipping them, it seems natural to many people. And not all Sabezra Shippers can be seen expressing this around.

I have nothing against anyone who ships wolfwren.  But I won't lie and say I wasn't sad that the cast supported it so openly, while we are accepting crumbs. I confess that at first I felt betrayed. I haven't shipped Sabezra for as long as many of you, but I feel like I have. But thinking clearly, I understand them. Besides thinking that they can to ship whatever they want, just like us, I see it as a way for them to show support for the LGBT community. It is to be expected that they will do this. And it's okay.

Needless to say, I'm just posting this to express what I was feeling, I have no intention of hurting anyone.  I am completely against any type of hate.

I don't regret watching Ahsoka, nor do I regret that the series existed.  But I'm sorry to have seen so much fighting and hatred for something that was made to make us all happy. I wish I had followed everything in ignorance, as well as my friend and my mother. I think I'll start seeing things that way from now on.

I had a lot more to say, but I still don't know how to express them in words and this was turning into a mile long post.  My first post and this was huge.  I'm sorry for this. I needed to get these things out because I want to sleep and focus on the more important things I have to do.

And I want to be able to enjoy watching Ahsoka and Rebels again without feeling sick out remembering all the discussion surrounding it.

For now, I want you to know that I've been loving all the Sabezra content you've been posting. What I want to say is that I'm here and that I will continue to ship Sabezra until the end. Even if you don't see me interacting here.

Maybe later I'll regret posting this. 

Maybe I'll delete it right away. 

Maybe I'll never come around here again. 

I don't know.

Too late. But everything is fine. 

At least now you know I'm here.

I just— needed the stroke of the cheek, the sweet caress of the finger as they stare adoringly at each other like lovesick fools. Perhaps it shall one day, but for now I will indulge 😌✨

The kiss, the smooch is secondary, maybe even tertiary or not at all; I just need them to do the Keldabe kiss and I’ll live forever, them holding hands 😩💜 but for now, Sabine leaped into bravery and gave Ezra a smooch ✨

When I first met you, I didn't understand why so brazen and fearless you hijacked our plans. You must've known you couldn't get away with it. I must've thought you much too desprate. When I first met you, I didn't yet trust you no matter the battles you helped pull me through. When you had my back, I thought that you'd stab, so I shut out the truest friend that I've had. When I first met you, I didn't recognize how skilled and impressive I was in your eyes. You appreciated my talents and encouraged my gifts, and though I rebuffed, I really enjoyed it. When I first met you, I didn't think you'd stay. I wielded my anger to push you away. Nobody else would've still pursued, but I'd never known one as reckless as you. When I first met you, I didn't see it come. My heart wasn't pounding like a festival drum. It didn't feel mushy or sappy or sweet. Time came and it went without skipping a beat. So when I first met you, I couldn't've known how deeply your story would entwine with my own, that you wouldn't walk out when push came to shove, that it was the start of falling in love.

Didn't have anything for Day 1 of @sabezraweek, but here's my bit for Day 2!

This is a multi-chapter fic and I had hoped to finish it all in time, but I only have the first and last chapter done (writing a fic in order? in Jessia's WIPs? It's less likely than you'd think) so here's the first chapter for now!

“Sabine? Uh, if we die today, I want you to know that you’re the coolest friend I could’ve ever asked for.”

She rolled her eyes. “Yeah, let’s try not to die today. Now shush!”

The stormtroopers had been following them for nearly three blocks. The mission had been pretty simple, supposedly; Sabine, Ezra, and Chopper were just picking up a datastick of information from a pair of agents who would meet them.

But then, of course, the stormtroopers showed up before they could meet the contacts, and so Chopper split off to find the contacts while Sabine and Ezra dashed into a cluttered warehouse, hiding behind a dusty stack of crates that was just big enough to hide them from view.

“I just figured I should say it,” Ezra whispered, and she gave him an annoyed look for talking again. “Y’know. Just in case.”

Tried to depict the two in a little bit of a "transition" state, so their hair isn't fully grown out yet and Ezra's still clinging to pieces of his old outfit (the comm unit on his wrist guard is missing, as Thrawn had it removed when they arrived) and Sabine hasn't completely moved into the tower. Also I'd forgotten what a pain in the ass Sabine's armor is to color.

Day 1 - In Between

Ezra: And then there is Sabine. She is really pretty and smart and badass and cool and awesome. The Noti: ... Ezra: No, I'm not in love with her. The Noti: ... Ezra: She is my friend, okay? Friends can be attracted to other friends. It's a very friendly thing to feel. The Noti: ... Ezra: *sighs* Ok, fine, I have a little crush on her. Who doesn't? Who doesn't? But you won't tell her that if she comes here one day, okay? The Noti: ... Ezra: I knew I could count on you ^^

sabezra week: day 1: in-between

during the decade in between, sabine helps the rebellion defeat the empire, but after the new republic is started, she's a rebel without a cause, until ahsoka suspects some force sensitivity in her and takes it upon herself to train her. after the death of sabine's family, ahsoka worries her grief will lead her down a dark path and stops training her. a rebel without a war, a mandalorian without a clan, and no longer a jedi- a keeper of the peace she's now trapped in- sabine spends most of her time on lothal, wondering if there's any way she can find ezra and bring him back home.

during the decade in between, ezra finds the noti and joins their clan, initially communicating with them via the force, but eventually adapting to their language, and swapping stories with them to pass the time while he waits for sabine to bring him back home.

Sabine's loth cat, Murley, is nicknamed Cyar Kaysh Mirsh Solus [two mando'a phrases meaning: "beloved" and "his brain cell is lonely"] because of how much he reminds her of Ezra.

Anytime Ezra has a stupid idea, he hears a sarcastic little voice in the back of his head calling him out for it, and usually calling him a D'ikut, or some other Mando'a insult. That's part of why, when Sabine's with him again and makes a sarcastic and self-confident remark, all he can think to say is "I've missed you."

Sabine paints the walls in the tower on Lothal a lot, usually things that she knows Ezra won't mind when he gets back, but occasionally one or two things that'll annoy him in a half-sincere attempt to spite him out of hiding.

Ezra attempts to learn to draw/paint so that he can impress Sabine when she finds him. A lot of his early attempts were horrible, but by the time she gets there, he's quite good for someone with his limited resources, and he has a not-too-bad mural of the ghost crew etched in the wall of his mobile home.

Though she wouldn't even admit it to herself, part of the reason Sabine wanted to become a Jedi was to find a connection to Ezra though the Force.

Part of the reason Ezra worked on his proficiency in combat without lightsabers was because he half-expected Sabine to have lost his lightsaber over the course of their separation.

Sabine's family noticed how downtrodden she was at losing Ezra and asked about him, but she told them she didn't have feelings for him. Tristan asks her about it later, and and she tells him the truth, but her secret dies with him a couple days later.

Ezra tells the Noti all kinds of stories about what happened before he got to Perida. Naturally, their favorite stories are the ones that he seems the most excited when he's telling, so they ask him a lot to tell him stories about his friend Sabine.

Jacen loves hearing stories about his ghost crew family. One time while Sabine's watching him, they sit at the table drawing while she tells a story about his Uncle Ezra. Jacen, without even looking up from his coloring page, asks Sabine if she loved him. She's a little startled and deflects the question, but in that moment, she almost said yes. She hadn't even told herself that until that moment.

The language the Noti speak is a little different from basic. It throws Ezra for a loop when one of them asks to hear about his "girl friend Sabine" until he realizes that the Noti word for a romantic partner is completely different, and they were merely referring to his friend, Sabine, who is a girl. He has to admit though, he likes the sound of that phrase.
