There should totally be a movement called “Sleep in Public” where people defend their right to sleep on public property. Sleep in your cars. Sleep on benches. Sleep at the park. Just make it a mundane and regular part of life to see someone napping in the library. It would make it much harder to single out the homeless for harassment if everyone else is doing the same thing and much harder to argue that it’s a “threat to public safety” when it’s so clearly harmless.
#tbh the biggest issue with sleeping in public is other people stealing your shit#and usually this is housed people who get a kick out of terrorising others#like. i feel like housed people are most likely to commit crimes while someone is sleeping in public

“It doesn’t matter if your skin is brown. It doesn’t matter if you’re white. It doesn’t matter if you’re a veteran or you serve this country. They don’t care. They’re just there to fill a quota.” Those are the words of George Retes, a veteran and U.S. citizen who was detained by federal agents during an ICE raid at a Southern California farm. Despite identifying himself as a citizen multiple times, federal agents pepper sprayed him and dragged him from his vehicle. He was thrown in a cell for three days, where he was not allowed to contact his family or a lawyer. He was forced to remain covered in tear gas and pepper spray, as he was not allowed to shower or change clothes. When he was finally released, agents gave him *no explanation* for why he was arrested and detained. When immigrants don’t receive due process as required by the Constitution, no one does. We are no longer on the path to fascism. Fascism is here. Now more than ever, we must protect each other – especially the most vulnerable among us. Keep speaking out. Keep standing up. Tyranny only wins if we submit to it.

yeah like all it depicts is a predominantly white country violently invading a neighbouring predominantly brown country bc it wants its natural resources & land and it's only able to do this with funding & weapons from America and its white soldiers aim guns at unarmed brown kids.
like. why would you think that's about you?? 🤔

Looking at some of your work, it is stunning but it is very similar in style to AI artwork, do you have any recommendations for how to tell apart photography like yours from AI.
I've been thinking about this. And this may sound controversial at first, but I'm hoping people will hear me out.
We should stop trying so hard to detect AI art.
I think we should all lift that burden from our brains.
I have often talked about "woke goggles." Where conservatives have lost the ability to enjoy anything because they are hypervigilant about detecting anything woke. They've cursed themselves into just hating everything. All they have left is the "God's Not Dead" Cinematic Universe.

And I worry people are getting AI goggles now. They are so concerned about accidentally enjoying robot art and hurting artists that they have overcorrected to the point where they are hurting artists.
One cannot say "AI is all soulless slop that always looks bad" and then accuse a real artist of making something that looks like AI and not hurt them. By doing so, it includes the baggage of all of the "slop" comments along with it. This crusade is having collateral damage to the very artists we are trying to protect.
Yes, we need to be cautious about malicious AI images. Misinformation and deepfakes are going to be a big problem. People using AI imagery for profit is already a mess. But if you are cruising your feed and like a cool sci-fi robot gal or a photo of a waterfall and it turns out to be AI... that's fine.
It was trained by real artists and AI is going to create some cool shit because of that.
Honestly, I think a lot of the worst slop is because the dipshits creating the prompts have no artistic taste. People keep blaming the AI for how bad it looks and often don't consider it is a product of the loser who published it.
There is plenty of non-slop out there that has fooled me. And, like it or not, it is going to get harder and harder to tell what is AI. Until there are better tools or better regulations, I don't think there is much we can do to avoid enjoying AI art every once in a while. If only by accident.
Current "AI detectors" are mostly a scam. Even the best forensic-level AI image detectors struggle to stay above 70–80% accuracy across a wide range of models and image types. And that's in controlled lab conditions.
Free online tools often drop to near coin-flip accuracy (50–60%), especially with newer image generators and post-processing applied.
The best way to avoid AI imagery is to look at an artist's body of work. It's much harder to create consistent, non-obvious fake images in a large sample size. That is usually enough to have confidence in authenticity. Plus, if they have posted similar art before 2022, you can pretty much rule out any shenanigans.
Otis literally died before genAI was available.
But images you see in the wild, just let yourself enjoy them if that is what your brain wants to do. It'll be okay.
I just think we are attacking this backwards. If we want to protect artists, we need to support them.
Calling out random AI art does not support them.
It does not put money in their pockets.
It does not grow their audience.
Over a decade ago I tried to lead a fight to create better systems of attribution on websites like Reddit and Imgur. I even spoke to the Imgur team after an article was written about me.

I asked them to allow sources on their posts and to develop tech that would help people find where an image came from. They said they were "working on it" and it never manifested.
IMAGE SHARING SITES STEAL MORE FROM ARTISTS THAN AI.
But we just kind of accepted it. No one really joined me in my fight. The prevailing defeatist attitude was, "That's just the way it is."
I think now is the time to demand better attribution systems. We need to be vigilant about making sure as many posts as possible have good sourcing. If an image on Reddit goes viral, the top comment should be the source. And if it isn't, you should try to find it and add it.
Just to be clear, "credit to the original artist" is NOT proper attribution.
And perhaps we can lobby these image sharing sites to create better sourcing systems and tools. They could even use fucking AI to find the earliest posted version of an image.
And it would be nice if it didn't require people to go into the comments to find the source. It could just be in the headline. They could even create little badges "made by a human" for verified artists.
Good attribution helps artists grow their audience. It is one of the single most effective things you can do to help them.
I literally just got this message...

There are maybe 10 popular artists who I helped grow their audience early on. Just because I reblogged their work and added links to all of their social media. I even hired my best friend to add sourcing information to every post because I believed so much in good attribution.
Calling out AI art may feel good in the moment. You caught someone trying to trick people and it feels like justice. But, in most cases, the tangible benefits to real artists seem small. It impedes your ability to enjoy art without always being suspicious. And the risk of telling someone you think they make soulless slop doesn't seem worth it.
But putting that time and effort into attribution *would* be worth it. I have proven it time and time again.
I also think people should consider having a monthly art budget. I don't care if it is $5. But if we all commit to seeking out cool artists and being their collective patrons, we could really make a difference and keep real art alive. Just commit to finding a cool new artist every month and financially contributing to them in some way.
On a bigger scale I think advocating for universal basic income, art grants for education and creation, and government regulation of AI would all be helpful long term goals. Though I think our friends in Europe may have to take the lead on regulation at the moment.
So...
Stop worrying about enjoying or calling out AI art.
Demand better attribution from image sharing sites.
Make sure all art has a source listed.
Start an art budget.
Advocate for better regulations.

"Why do the TERFs keep coming back to this site?" Because the vast majority of the userbase accepts radfem ideology. That's why. Many of you will uncritically reblog a post that talks about how women created society and men are jealous and not realize that this is a radfem talking point. Many of you will reblog a post talking about how gender nonconformity is a woman's natural state and then be surprised when the same poster turns around and talks about how GNC men are playacting putting on the shackles of womanhood, framing GNC men as outsiders invading the concept of femininity. And as long as a post doesn't ACTUALLY, IN WRITING exclude transwomen, you'll reblog a post saying that people can't handle 'discussion of female biology', which is, yes! A radfem dogwhistle.
At this point I can't even say that I think you're approaching these posts in good faith and missing the bigotry. At this point I think your hatred of men matches theirs well enough to allow them to blend in as long as that's what they emphasize.
If your feminism excludes men, it is false. If the goal of your feminism is to invert the power dynamics between men and women or promote segregation rather than abolish that hierarchy of power, it is false. And I am really, really tired of seeing people treating 'hating men' as the opposite of 'hating women.'
The opposite of 'hating women' is 'loving women.' Men and women are not opposites and you need to unlearn that before we can get anywhere.
#same goes for shit like 'straight women and gay men are proof that attraction isnt a choice'#'bisexuals are attracted to every women ever and only one man'#as a bisexual who is primarily attracted to men I fucking hate this shit#especially when other bi people try to get me to 'join in' on 'our joke'#fuck off with all of that#i am not a safe space for hating on anyone for their gender or expression of it

"oh but my always-on listening device wouldn't do this bc it only responds to my voice. you see I let it record clips of my exact tone, accent, and inflections so it can tell me apart from all the other voices it hears on the microphone i carry with me 24/7" you... can hear how that's worse right?
if you don't have to press a button to enable dictation or activate something on a device, then I'm sorry to tell you but that device is constantly monitoring every word you say!
this is not an exaggeration. the apps literally tell you that they are always "listening" for a word or phrase. so please turn them OFF! don't let corporations listen to you and everyone in your vicinity, and especially not in your own homes!

(& you may have to do this after every update bc they love turning "features" back on)
this is also why we tell people to leave their phones AT HOME during protests btw. because it's easier than explaining how to turn off every single aspect of your device that tracks/records you & everyone near you and puts us all at risk.

Oh, Mr. Dickinson, I'm surprised at you. You should know that rebellion is always legal in the first person, such as "our rebellion." It is only in the third person - "their rebellion" - that it is illegal.

In 1989, George Bush gave a speech about crack. During the speech he pulled out a bag of crack and said “this bag was seized right across the street from the White House in Lafayette park.” Turns out, his speech writers had the idea to pull out a prop during his speech and in order to make it believable they had the DEA plant crack on this random 18 year old black kid. They lured him there. He didn’t even know where the White House or Lafayette park was. When he got there, they arrested them. The plot was discovered by a journalist.

I Am Bad Representation
And I could not care less.
This post also on my website for easy sharing.
Yesterday, I went to my GP and got my testosterone injection administered. It’s an intramuscular injection generally administered to my backside, where the fattier, softer flesh makes the intramuscular penetration of the needle less painful, and also gives it space to settle in the flesh and slowly be assimilated into my endocrine system over time.
Every 12 weeks — 3 months — I get this injection administered. I have been on it for about five years.
Prior to that, I was on Testogel, a topical form of testosterone where you slather a very strong-smelling slime over your shoulders every day and sit uncomfortably, waiting for it to dry, before you can put your shirt on, and trying not to sweat in the meantime.
The nurse at my local GP has been administering this T-shot for about a year.
Previously, I had been prescribed an oestrogen cream to help with the symptoms of vaginal atrophy — when you have a vulva and vagina and you, for whatever reason, have low oestrogen and progesterone, the mucous membranes that make up the inside of your vagina and your labia minora become thinner and produce less lubricant. It can make it harder to produce enough lubricant whilst having sex, make you more prone to tearing, and contribute to muscular pain and discomfort.
As you might have surmised from how I described the Testogel, this cream was Bad for me. It was very texturally unpleasant and awkward to administer with a little syringe, and I despised it.
So I made a mistake. I said, hey, can you guys give me a suppository version of the same cream?
The receptionist seemed surprised by how comfortable I was talking about my vagina in the waiting room, but hey. Such is life.
I receive a phone call the following morning at a few minutes past nine. With delight, the receptionist informs me, “We’ve made a referral to the gender dysphoria clinic for you!”
And I say, “Well, you shouldn’t have done that. Why did you do that?”
And she goes, “Oh.”
“I don’t need to speak to a gender dysphoria specialist. This is for a vaginal suppository. It’s the same thing you’d give to a cisgender woman experiencing vaginal atrophy after experiencing menopause — it has nothing to do with being transgender.”
“Oh. Well. Erm. The doctor just doesn’t feel comfortable prescribing you hormones without you talking to a specialist.”
“What about the hormones you already give me?”
“… What?”
“I was literally there yesterday getting my T-shot administered. You’ve been giving me my testosterone for a year. Is the doctor suddenly going to take me off a medication I’ve been on for eight years? Is he comfortable putting me at severe health risk for no reason?”
“Oh, er, well, I’m sure, um, I don’t — I’m just a secretary, I don’t, um, I don’t know about… I’m sure he wouldn’t… But I can’t guarantee that — “
I was pissed. I made it very clear I was pissed and that I felt this was a waste of time and resources.
I know exactly what happened. Because many doctors don’t actually know anything about much of the medicine they administer unless it comes up on a Google search, they immediately react to base assumptions like “transgender” (or “woman” or “disabled” or “Black”) and attribute any issue you’re having to that.
My doctor looked at the fact that I’m on testosterone, then saw that I’d asked for oestrogen. Aaaaah!!! That’s so confusing and weird! I must be confused about my gender identity! You can’t just mess with all this stuff and brew it all together!
The fact that I’ve been given a cream-form of the same medication in the past is irrelevant. The fact that what I’ve requested is a LOCALISED form of HRT, which will not impact my broader endocrine system, is irrelevant — he doesn’t know that. The fact that again, the same exact thing can be given to cisgender women, is irrelevant.
He doesn’t know how any of these medications work. Hormones + transgender = ooh scary!!!!
When you have any sort of chronic health condition — which my transgenderism will be until someone makes an implant for my T — you end up having to learn how a lot of these medications work and how they work together. You have to actually pay attention.
And then you have to manage healthcare practitioners who are acting based on bias and assumptions rather than actual healthcare comprehension.
And then, infuriatingly, after all this, I was put in the position of having to say, “Look, I’m sorry, I know you don’t know anything about this, and I’m very clearly aggravated, but it feels like I’m being targeted for poor medical care simply because I am transgender, and that my health is being put at risk at random.”
Which is what’s happening.
But when your doctor tries to do malpractice on you because he’s anxious about the fact that you’re transgender, you’re not allowed to get angry and upset about it, because that makes you scary and intimidating and a Bad Patient. It might make you worthy of even more punishment, or being struck off.
So that ruined my day.
I now have to go to the endocrinologist, and hopefully, I’ll be able to say, “I’ve literally been on T for eight years. Do not fuck with me. I do not need a fucking assessment. I do not need to prove for a second time to some stranger that I’m transgender. Just give me the suppository to make my dick work better and fuck off.”
And the endo will just give me the suppository, and my doctor will go back to giving my testosterone every three months, and I won’t have to ruin anybody’s life or publicly embarrass my GP surgery into treating me like a human being.
It’s so frustrating to have to constantly think about what damage control I’m going to have to do to just be given the basic medication I require to live my life and that I’ve already been on for the better part of a decade.
The thing about the fact that it feels like this whole thing has put my general life at risk is that it feels like a punishment for caring about my vaginal health and wanting to be able to have comfortable, good sex — and that makes me a bad transgender person.
Cis people don’t want to think about trans men having sex or being sexual beings. That’s gross and scary and weird and uncomfortable.
Doctors don’t want a patient advocating for their own sexual health or being empowered and knowledgeable about he ins and outs of their own healthcare, let alone contradicting them just because they very clearly not only don’t know how my healthcare works, but because they can’t be bothered to learn.
Cis people don’t really want trans people to exist, because the concept of trans people disrupts the things they would like to believe about “biological sex” and how it contributes to the roles they choose for each other and pressure one another into.
If they’re okay with trans people existing, they only want trans people to exist in perfect theory.
They “grieve” over the cisgender children they “lose” when they transition to their correct gender. They don’t want kids and teenagers to be given puberty blockers, but they also don’t want them to get the right hormones — and now even as an adult, I’m constantly put in the position of having to be worried about my T getting stopped at any moment in case a doctor has Feelings about having a transgender patient.
Because it’s too scary and too hard to actually do any research about my medication. They want our healthcare to go to nebulous “specialists” who, frankly, know more about diabetes and menopause — which is what most endocrinologists study! — than they do about being trans.
Cisgender people are often very fixated on the idea and the narrative that transgender people live in fear and anxiety and self-loathing because we’re so cursed by our bodies and our lives.
But almost every negative experience I have is to do with a cisgender person choosing to make my life difficult rather than any internal issue I have with my actual life or body or gender. It’s cis people using slurs or making places inaccessible, refusing to learn or be educated on any subject, and trying to push any kind of transgender person out of their lives, their facilities, their society.
And so yeah, I’m bad representation.
I’m openly gay and fruity, and I wear sexy fun clothes, and I write erotica and I talk openly about sexual health and resources, and I’m open about being transgender. I’m not ashamed of my sexuality or my gender — or my disability and chronic illness, which I’m also open about, God forbid!
And who cares?
I could be the absolute perfect example of transgenderism — invisible, meek, silent — and I would be treated with the exact same level of disrespect and ignorance. I would just feel like it was genuinely my fault for existing instead of theirs for treating me poorly.
At the very least I can complain loudly where other people can see and hear me, and it can make other trans people feel better about advocating for themselves and telling cis people and cis-focused systems to fuck right off.
And I can create bad representation proudly in my own fiction work — trans people who are criminals and assholes and sluts and freaks and actual monsters, who are off-putting and autistic and disabled and weird — and let people enjoy that as well.
#a doctor assuming a patient is confused when they directly ask for treatment and referring them to a specialist to treat the confusion??#surely it couldn't be that trans men still experience misogyny#that would be unheard of -- since we are MEN!#and clearly bad predatory oppressors! we can't experience The Woman's Oppression#<- all extremely sarcastic btw#anyway sorry this happened to you OP that's fucked up#the fact that we (& all marginalised ppl) have to know more about conditions that affect us than the medical 'pros' that treat us is absurd#i'm glad to see other trans men (or any marginalised ppl) embracing the fact that we'll still be targeted no matter how hard we conform#and in fact it will be easier to mistreat us the more we conform#so we might as well get loud and weird with it#just trans masc things
