Art is a method of expressing interpretation. From the beginning of the term, I have been interested in music. More specifically, rap music and culture. I began taking inspiration for artists such as Lil Yachty, Dj Khaled, and Chance the Rapper. These rappers have very unique lifestyles and have very unique personalities. From being exposed to the rapper’s music and their culture, I was able to get inspiration and ideas from it. I began by trying to recreate album covers but I slowly began transitioning to drawing the rapper instead of the album cover. One aspect of my art is that I like to combine previous pieces of art to create new one. For example, my final project is a result of many projects. The idea of drawing portraits of people came from a piece I did on Tyler The Creator. The idea for using water color came from the Lil Boat album cover. The idea for tracing the black and white photos came from the Dj Khaled key piece. And Finally the idea to put 4 pieces together was from came from a group feedback meeting when someone suggested I put these 4 spray paint pieces together.

Looking back

I finished the 4th and last piece to the project I am displaying

The rest of the week I was working on my artist statement. 

I tried a bunch of different things to try to flatten my art because it curled

I have my art work in a press to try to flatten it out.

When it is does flattening, i am going to put it up somewhere

I wanted to do a project with the empty spray cans but it doesn’t seem like enough time left in the term.

I got to listen to other peoples artist statements and compare then to mine

Looking back

I made the third peice out of 4 pieces that I am going to put together

I built a large sculpture made out of bunch of blocks

I made a super large jenga tower

I put a canoe in various places around the building, including in a tree

I made a totally free standing wooden sculpture that took a lot of precision balancing.

I plan on finishing this project that I’ve been working on and potentially hang it up

I might do a spray paint project

or I might do another sculpture

I found out that it helps to switch up what your doing occasionally to clear your mind

My piece consists of four photos that come together as a collage. I think that the dimensions would roughly be 16" x 12". I don't know where it will be shown. That is still being decided. I definitely think that it will hung on the wall.

Looking back 

I began my new project 

I have been tracing faces onto paper 

then I have been water coloring the background

Looking ahead

I have traced two faces already and have two to go

I have used purple and orange for the background and I think that I will use blue for the next portrait

Take aways 

Really the only take away from this week was my project. The idea for the project initially came from the DJ Khaled piece when I used the black and white. Then when I used the same technique for the Mac miller piece, I realized that it had the potential to make a larger project. That led to the Chance piece and right now a J. Cole piece is in the making.

I learned how other people feel about old art I got an idea for a future project by trying to illustrate one of my dreams I learned some of the many ways people express their opinions through art by using urbanization to recreate old photos of white people with urban black men He also incorporates lots of colors by scattering flowers and patterns all over his paintings

Because of the short week and the workshop, this blog will be cut down.

Looking back

I spent Tuesday learning about photo lighting 

I took photos using different lighting techniques

I spent half of Thursday brainstorming and looking at photos for inspiration

I spent the second half trying to find the right photo to use with my art and then tracing it out

looking forward

just like every week I will continue to make art about musicians

I am going to finish me piece on Mac Miller by filling in the background with water color

I am going to make a key lock for the DJ Khaled and label it more success because DJ Khaled always says that he has the keys to more success. 

Take aways 

I experienced how to use lighting and now I am a better photographer

I found an idea to add more meaning to the Key

I have an idea to make a collage with a bunch of rappers faces in black and white surrounded with water color.
