@doriathweek day 7
Celeborn and Oropher reminisce about the past while Thranduil “minds” Celebrían and steals a taste of his father’s wine.

Title: Song for Elbereth (Chapter 2 of 2) Word count: 7,257 (for the entire fic) Warnings: Nothing major, just implied canonical death.
Summary: The Bad Elves, the strange invaders, left Eluréd and Elurín alone in the middle of a dark wood. Night is falling, and danger surrounds them. Eluréd, the elder, believes it’s his responsibility to protect his younger twin, no matter how hopeless things seem. Elurín has his own ideas about hope—and how they can find safety.
Written for @doriathweek, but it took me longer than expected to finish part two. I went back and made some minor changes to part one as well.

Towards the Future
Characters: Celeborn & Oropher Rating: G Summary: “And what will you do now, cousin?” It was Celeborn who finally broke the silence. “I know you do not intend to stay, but I worry, so please dear cousin, ease my mind.” Words: 1038 Notes: For day 7 of @doriathweek
Read @ AO3
It was late and everything was quiet, but in the privacy of a home, there was still a roaring fire and two silent figures who nursed wine cups. A small plate of finger foods between them. Silence reigned, neither elf in a particular hurry to break it. They alone remained from the small family dinner that had taken place earlier, Celeborn and Galadriel had hosted both Oropher and Thranduil, and now, Galadriel and Thranduil had gone to bed.
“And what will you do now, cousin?” It was Celeborn who finally broke the silence. “I know you do not intend to stay, but I worry, so please dear cousin, ease my mind.”
Oropher turned, green eyes dark as a leaf beneath the moonlight, a small frown on his handsome face. “I intent to go East.” He stopped and hesitated, but shook his head and sighed. “I know there are others who will come with Thranduil and I. Others will follow you and your lady, but while our Lady’s sons are lost to us, it falls to us to look after them.”
“And you have been offered a crown.” It was not an accusation, it was more a question than a statement. “Will you take it, cousin?”
“I have yes, but I have not decided as to if I should take it.” He hesitated for a moment. “You have refused one, a curious thing cousin.”

@doriathweek day seven: celeborn
They were clad wholly in white; and the hair of the Lady was of deep gold, and the hair of the Lord Celeborn was of silver long and bright; but no sign of age was upon them, unless it were in the depths of their eyes

Day 7 of @doriathweek: (Celeborn and) Oropher – Future
Here’s the final prompt for Doriath Week! I thought I’d just draw Oropher for this one because I haven’t designed him yet XD So here he is, looking towards the future and wondering what’s going to happen there.
And thus concludes Doriath Week! Thanks for following along with my sketches, guys! I had lots of fun drawing for this week :D

@doriathweek day seven | oropher and celeborn
Oropher had come among them with only a handful of Sindar, and they were soon merged with the Silvan Elves, adopting their language and taking names of Silvan form and style. This they did deliberately; for they (and other similar adventurers forgotten in the legends or only briefly named) came from Doriath after its ruin and had no desire to leave Middle-earth, nor to be merged with the other Sindar of Beleriand, dominated by the Noldorin Exiles for whom the folk of Doriath had no great love.
—Unfinished Tales, “The History of Galadriel and Celeborn”
Galadriel his sister went not with him to Nargothrond, for in Doriath dwelt Celeborn, kinsman of Thingol, and there was great love between them.
—The Silmarillion, “Of the Return of the Noldor”

Doriath Week Day 7 - Celeborn
I don’t rly remember this, but in my planner I circled today’s date and made a note of it being Celeborn’s day in @doriathweek. I woke up this morning lowkey depressed with a verse in my head that wouldn’t leave me alone until I wrote it down, and when I wrote one verse, the others followed. So, here’s my submission, I guess?
Celeborn ( Memory, Future, Middle Earth)
In Middle Earth vast and weary,
Where many shadows lie
He stands tall and proud
And looks at the darkened sky.
The stars are still shining
Though their light is slow and dim
He knows that oh so little
Is left in Endor for him.
The wind comes and it goes,
It howls in forgotten tongues;
He doesn’t feel it at all
For his heart has gone numb.
A great duty still awaits him,
The old, silver-haired Lord.
He thinks on how long’s it been
Since he last held his sword.
The threats are all vanquished,
This in his heart he knows,
Yet he will not leave his home
‘Till his kin, too, goes.
His eyes are wise and reach far,
Farther away than they should,
They examine the past forgotten
Through fire, and stone, and wood.
All the wars that were long fought,
All the devastating battles lost,
They all come back to haunt him
From shadows they rise and accost.
How is it, he asks the stars,
That I still feel unrest?
Why is it, he asks the wind,
That all my love’s gone to the West?
In Lórien he now stands,
Once shining and happy and bright;
He thinks, Even the trees
Have lost their beauty and might.
What says that of me, he asks
The woods around him aloud,
That the thought of winning and peace
Still doesn’t make me proud?
Aware he is that he’s standing
On another crossroad in life.
The two paths that are diverging
Are causing him too great a strife.
To stay and to fade is one,
The other to go and to live.
Both these paths demand sacrifice
Such that he’ll never forgive.
Could love be enough, he asks,
In this abundance of loss?
Will I be alone again
When the sea at last I cross?
The once-golden leaves around him whisper
As their colors bleak and fade -
Gold cannot be without silver,
And he knows his decision is made.
His eyes are shining and wet with tears
For the past that he does mourn,
But also for painful, uncertain future
That awaits great Lord Celeborn.
Let me know what you think! :)
