What most elves thinks it’s like talking to the trees:
Silvan: mighty oak tree, is there some trouble of which you would like to warn us?
Tree: no, my kind silvan. There is no darkness of which that can cause you harm.
What a silvan talking to a tree is actually like:
Legolas, cackling, landing on a tree branch: babe, you’ll never believe what happened!
Tree, lighting up and shaking their leaves: Legolas, my good bitch! I got news!

@sindarweek Day Seven: Oropher, Thranduil, and Legolas
Couldn't finish Sindar Week without including the Greenwood fam! I don't know the timeline well enough to know if this is just headcanon or plausible, but I like the idea that Oropher got to meet his grandson before he died.
I think Oropher is one of those characters that gets treated a way in fandom. Hell, back in the day so did Thranduil, though, that mostly changed after the Hobbit movies came out.
Anyway, here they are having a nice family moment.
I had a lot of fun exploring the Sindar, I want to revisit these characters more in the future and there are plenty of Sindar elves I didn't get to this week
I'm most of the way the way through art I'd like to post for Imladris Week, and I'm about halfway through a Lords of Gondolin series, so we'll see how long my creativity holds out.

this i might actually believe
like i don’t think that’s what Tolkien would have thought. when he says king he means king
but realistically what does king even mean when you’re ostensibly immortal and all born in the same place, and hardly more than a 3 generations separate, how do you get a nobility, is it only those born of the First Mothers and Fathers or something else
moreover why do the silvans only now (SA. 750) take a ‘king’ as opposed to every other era before (fantasy racism is why but let’s think more complexly)
‘king’ to the elves means person who takes you on a journey, governs, and leads an army
if one is not doing at least 2/3 of the above they cannot claim to be king, MAYBE
i really have to think this through more, i feel like i might be on to something but cannot articulate it properly
More about Thranduil not begin an actual king? How did they even came into this conclusion? Di they just asked or...?
Thranduil (and oropher) were elected to be spokesperson for the silvans due to their sinda conections, which the silvans thought would make the other sinda/noldo take them a little more seriously (fantasy racism, yay! /sar ), and the sinda/noldo just assumed they were the kings and they felt no need to correct them. It’s not as if that title of “king” actually effects their day to day life.

Oropher: You don't have to go out of your way to be petty.
Thranduil: I've never once gone out of my way to be petty. It's directly on my route.
Thranduil: In fact, sometimes, it's the destination.

GUYS!!! Camnir calls Elrond "My Liege"! I googled the term just to verify, and it is IN NO WAY a possible synonym for "Commander." It means either "my lord" or "my king." That, combined with the fact that Elrond and Camdir only speak Sindarin (or English) together, never Quenya, has some Notable Implications!
It probably means that Camnir is loyal to Elrond (politically, at least, though I sense a genuine friendship there too) above everyone else! I would be willing to bet (total speculation from here on out) that he's a Sinda who was loyal to Elwing and then, after she peaced out, decided that the kingship should go to Elrond next.
Obviously, it didn't for whatever reason (I can think of several possible ones,) but instead went to Oropher. If Camnir thinks of Elrond as his rightful king, he obviously thinks of Oropher as a userper. He probably came to Lindon because Elrond was there and is a subject of Gil-Galad in name only because Elrond said so.
Sorry for the ramble, I'm just fascinated by Elrond’s family tree and the political implications that come with it. Also, we hear every once in a while about diehard Elrond-following Fëanorians but I don't think I've ever heard the Sindarin side of things! Hopefully, they'll expand on this, maybe even find a way to bring Oropher himself into the show!

Things I manifest for TROP season 3
Numenor gets flooded as Queen Miriel predicted but what I REALLY want is for the worm, who has been used and mistreated for probably ages, she has spears in her tail, to swim INTO THE FLOODED CITY AND EAT PEOPLE. This is my dream. I need this. It can eat Kemen or Pharazon LOL do it. If it swam up and ate Kemen and that is what his mother predictted?
Celeborn is alive but held in an orc dungeon and needs to be rescued by Galadriel. Do it. Just do it. And no he won't compete with anything she may have with Sauron, Elrond or anyone else, he's just by her side no matter what and probably stays in Lindon to recover from his injuries and is someone she can find comfort in. That's it. I want him to still be boring and played by a blandly handsome slow speaking individual. Don't change perfection.
A flashback with Jack Lowden's baby Sauron/Mairon and Melkor or Morgoth played by someone talented, tall dark and pale. Would love this. Just more of this era in general. I loved that other scene so much. I NEED more of this whole gothic old medieval vibe that scene had, perhaps even earlier so we see Mairon change and embrace darkness.
More Numenor but I want the stuff from the books with Sauron manipulating Pharazon and I want Sauron or this version of Annatar done up in beautiful Numenorian garnments and gold jewerly and slightly bronzed skin because here, he is seducing Pharazon.
Galadriel, Elrond, Arondir and Gil-Galad try to rescue Numenor from Sauron, this is probably a big part of the season. I'd love to see Sauron take over and perhaps, you will see things to do with the ring wraiths, the Witch King, the mouth of Sauron, all men he twisted. Also this is where Gil-Galad and Elendil, who will one day try to take on Sauron together, possibly meet
I'd like cameos by King Oropher and young Thranduil like maybe Arondir connecting more with his wood elf side he could go on that kind of journey to go visit the Woodland Realm and maybe warn his people of Sauron that way
Elrond.. keep doing your thing. You are amazing.

One of my most deranged Silm headcanons is that Elrond and Thranduil were meant to have an arranged marriage. Look, Oropher was well aware that the reemergence of Elu Thingol's heirs might not be a great thing for his claims to the throne. The obvious solution? Marry one of them into his family! They were about the same age as his son, after all. And it had to be Elrond, partially because Elros had picked mortality and partially because Elrond had already been identified as the "nice one" of the twins.
It really didn't help that Thranduil looked a fair bit like Thingol (especially for an unrelated elf), Elrond looked a lot like Melian, and many of the old Iathrim were still really not over losing their first king and queen. So Thranduil and Elrond got engaged to great joy (from almost all of the Sindar) and great awkwardness (from Elrond and Thranduil).
Now, Oropher thought this was a marvelous idea! He could secure his claim to the throne, please many of his nobles, and secure some ainur blood for his family all in one fell swoop.
(The running rumor was that Melian had created Luthien via a magical ritual with her and Thingol's blood, so he wasn't too worried about the fact that Elrond and Thranduil were both men. They could just brew up some grandchildren for him with Elrond Maia powers, no problem.)
Eventually, Thranduil was able to talk his father own and convince him that the arranged marriage was, in fact, a bad idea; and that Elrond, in fact, had no interest in challenging Oropher's kingship.
So Elrond and Thranduil never got married. They did become great friends, though, and legally, the engagement was never dissolved. They still decide to be obnoxious about it sometimes.
#silmarillion#silm headcanons#elrond#elrond peredhel#thranduil#oropher#eldritch peredhel#elronduil#thingol#melian#for the record its not that they were *uninterested* in each other#but vaguely forced arranged marriage is not a great situation for exploring romantic relationships#“Thranduil you have to marry Luthien's scion and secure our claim to the throne!” “Sure dad let's get you to bed”
