So in Network effect, Murderbot was surprised at the degree of attachment/kinship Three had towards the other SecUnits on the Barish-Estranza. Even to the point that it decided to name itself Three after the other two units it worked with both died.

Which makes me wonder if the reason the SecUnit Murderbot freed in System Collapse chose not to take Murderbot up on its offer to "Come with us" had less to do with its fear of the unknown and more to do with its reluctance to leave its secunit "family" behind, particularly now that it had the means to free them as well.

thinking again of how Murderbot would hate Vash the Stampede

Murderbot, ranting to ART: he's so unreasonable and idiotically self-sacrificing! he just throws himself into danger without a thought for the consequences all for the sake of people he's know thirty seconds, gets himself half-killed in the process, then as soon as he's on his feet he just vanishes without a word only to show up out of nowhere later just to do the same thing all over again! No explanations, everything brushed aside!

I think the best part of Murderbot is its staunch belief that it’s average at its job, and it only does better because it doesn’t have a working governor module

It’s always like, I’m just a SecUnit, the only reason I’m better is because humans somehow have worse judgement than me in my very narrow field of expertise, and I have the ability to process multiple things at once, and I don’t die when I get my shit wrecked. None of these are advantages over other bots, so I’m actually just average as far as skills go.

Meanwhile, Murderbot’s track record is something like ‘regularly takes out other SecUnits, regularly hacks fairly complicated systems, takes out multiple hostiles while saving and protecting clients/hostages, beat two Combat Bots in succession, and went toe to toe with a Combat SecBot while taking out two other SecUnits, rounding it off with inhabiting spaceships and crushing the incredibly difficult and malicious killware infecting them.’

That’s not even counting the guts, skill, and determination it takes to hack your own hardware/code which is fully capable of frying your brain in the first place

I do appreciate that the science fiction in Murderbot is particularly handwavy because SecUnit doesn't pay attention.

It’s so funny that the Official murderbot art always has it in armor even though its biggest complaint after the first book is God Damn I Miss My Armor That Protects Me From Bullets And Having To Think About Facial Expressions This Sucks So Bad.

i dont think SecUnit writes fic. i think it posts incredibly detailed analysis on the characters, plot, ect (it posts the data it compiled linking hatch shapes to danger, for example). it makes video compilations and the occasional AMV. it comments tiny nitpick corrections on other peoples' forum arguments and sometimes fics. it occasionally leaves long insightful comments on fic. it betas a little. mostly theres a thread on the Sanctuary Moon forum where people can get their fics and meta posts fact checked. its username is something like username1823691 and it uses the same one on every site

ART writes 100k+ word fanfics (SecUnit betas). it gets into arguments on the forums a lot and baits ppl into getting themselves banned. it writes a lot of long posts about the portrayl of bots and constructs in media. its posts on SecUnits r very impassioned and imply it knows more than one personally or. well one day it gets out the Preservation SecUnit from the news a few years ago loves Sanctuary Moon. so a lot of people obviously assumes thats who ART is. it uses a different username on every site where the first letters of the words spell ART (ie: ArtificialRefractorTorid, AliasRedTank)
