The waves lapped against Raina’s head. With a jolt she pushed herself upwards, her head spinning as she tried to balance herself. It took every ounce of control to keep her emerald dragon wings folded against her back. The dress she wore was soaked through under the breast plate and armored skirt she had on. They felt so heavy.
“Commander! Answer!”
A sharp pain rang through her head when she called out. She tried opening her eyes, but they stung hard, that plus the bright sun kept them shut. Her mind continued to try putting things together when a realization burst through the pain. Her hands went to her back and side, moving down to the sand.
“No. No. No. Where are they? Please be nearby.”
Her heart raced as panic began to set in, until her hands came along a smooth surface. There was a release of pressure as she pulled the smooth egg close to her chest. Her heart sank when she realized the egg was along. A familiar voice called out from the distance.
    “Your Majesty!”
She raised her hand, holding onto the egg as she noticed the sounds of multiple suits of armor. They got down to her, and one of them knelt next to her.
    “Are you ok?”
His hand landed on the egg, and she nodded.
“I’m fine, commander. I think I got some ocean water in my eyes, I can’t seem to open them. Is my other child ok?”
He looked around, a tightness in her chest as she waited for his answer. He looked back to his men, slowly shaking his head.
    “Your Majesty…”
She raised her hand cutting him off.
“Please just look for other survivors.”
Her arms tightened around the egg, head lowering as she began to whimper softly. The commander gave a soft prayer, and motioned to a soldier. He moved on down the beach, calling out to other survivors. Raina listened to the voices of the soldiers, before looking out at the ocean.
A’tura stood in the middle of the battle, his body swaying. His right arm hung limp as blood dripped down amongst the corpses covering the ground. His silver armor was tattered and torn, the deep green sash tied at his waist soaked, clinging to his body. His red dragon wings dangled, broken, behind him.
“To all Survivors capable of fighting, Form Ranks!”
His voice rang out, but there was no answer. There was a loud shifting noise, and he turned to see what was moving. In the distance a long blade glinted in the moonlight as it shambled towards him. It began to glow a slight red, and the bodies around him began to move. His eyes widened, and he grabbed a broken blade with his good arm. He began cutting the heads of the corpses as they moved. With each swing of the sword, he kept looking towards the shambling form.
With one look towards the glowing red blade, he quickly turned running at him. He dodged as hands reached up, one grabbing onto his ankle. His eyes flashed in anger, cutting it off. He caught the glance of the corpse. His eyes wavered. He had to pull away, but more hands grasped onto him, their collected weight beginning to pull down on him. The shambling figure moved closer. He began to laugh, a harsh cackling laugh echoing from a crushed throat.
    “It’s been… a long time… since I’ve had so many…”
A’tura growled as he fought against the increasing number of undead latching onto his body. One of them latched onto his broken wings, and he let out a pained scream, fighting the urge to fall to his knees. The shambling figure reached the broken warrior. HIs body was nothing but another corpse from amongst battle. His dead eyes unable to make eye contact as more of that broken voice came out as it pushed through the bloodied throat.
    “Such… a broken body… no use…”
He raised the sword and swung down.
Raina walked with her refugees along the shore, the sound of the ocean raging in the background. The remnants of the storm raging in the distance. She still couldn’t open her eyes, having one of her handmaidens helping her.  She held the lone egg close to her body, making sure to keep it warm.
“Commander, how many do we have?”
She heard his armor shift as he got up next to her.
“Not many, your Majesty, that storm wasn’t natural. I’m sure someone sent it our way.”
    She nodded as they walked.
“We need to start assessing where we are. We may have enemies coming to make sure  the job has been done, so we need to find a decent place that can be fortified. Take some of your men ahead to find a place where we can rest and easily defend from.”
He saluted and called out names before heading out ahead of the group. The handmaiden reached out offering to take the egg from Raina’s shaking hands. She recoiled, pulling it close to her body again.
“Please look after the other eggs. They need your attention more than mine. Everyone! We need to head away from the ocean! We are exposed here, and need to hide! We will wait for the commander to return once he finds someplace for us to prepare.”
The group mumbled amongst themselves, but did as she commanded. They began walking down into a wooded area. The tension in the air was palpable. Were they going to be chased down? Was that enemy close? So many thoughts raced through each mind as they walked down into a covered area. The sun slowly moved along the sky ominously as the remaining soldiers watched the horizon. A handmaiden brought her water from a fresh water spring they found nearby.
She washed her eyes out as best as she could, and looked out into the now blurry world. She groaned annoyed at what she was seeing.
“Aira,” The handmaiden stood up at attention. “Please watch my child. I need to speak with the soldiers.”
Aira nodded and took the egg close.
“Your majesty, I will guard him with my life.”
Raina sighed looking at the egg and Aira.
“If anything happens and it is between staying here or running away, I want you to take him and run. This land is new, but not unknown. Find north, and you find our destination,” She looked back towards the ocean. “Hopefully things will work out and we will all get there safely.”
She gave a small smile to Aira, rubbing the egg softly. She turned walking towards the posted guards. Once they realized that she was heading towards them, they immediately stood at attention.
“We will be resting for tonight. I need everyone to keep vigil. Tomorrow we continued towards our destination.”
The soldiers nodded and saluted. She smiled returning the gesture before turning and walking down the nearby path. She slowly looked over each survivor, and she was finally able to see the collection of eggs. It seemed that only less than half of them survived. Tears welled up as thoughts of her lost child returned. There was a clamour behind, and she quickly wiped the tears away seeing the commander had returned.
“Commander! How did your mission go?”
The commander saluted, followed by the rest.
“We have found a decent place that we could use to fortify a defense.”
She smiled and nodded.
“Good, we will be needing it. Tomorrow morning we are going to be heading to our destination. I want you to take your men and begin to get it prepared, while I lead the rest.”
The commander gave a nod before turning to his men.
“Men! We are going to do our Queen proud!”
Both the soldiers and citizens cheered. Maira watched and gave a playful smile before raising her hand.
“Ok everyone I suggest we all rest tonight,” She pulled him to the side as everyone began getting everything set up. “Tomorrow we have a big day. Commander...O’rad I need you to set up a watch schedule tonight. When we get to the town I will no longer be your queen...I will be dissolving the royal family, and I will be raising my son on my own. That order I gave is nothing more than the last request from a fading royalty. I don’t want our history to fade though. I will not allow those bastards to wipe us from this world.”
O’rad remained silent as he looked towards Raina. He nodded and saluted her with a smile on his face.
“From one friend to another, I shall grant your last order with all of my heart.”
Raina smiled and saluted him back.
“Thank you.”
She turned walking back to the citizens. O’rad looked back out to the wreckage and smiled. He quickly began calling out orders to his soldiers, and they began running towards the wreck. Raina stopped, and looked back at the ocean. She rubbed the pendant hanging from her neck, as her wings flicked anxiously. This was not going to be their end.
“In A’tura’s name I am going to keep everyone I can alive.”
