The next morning, Septon Oswyck married them in the fortress courtyard; a modest feast was held, but due to the bride's age, there was no wedding night.

The rise of Jaehaerys I, the conciliator

In 48 AC, following the mysterious death of Maegor, Jaehaerys flew to King's Landing on Vermithor, arriving ahead of Lord Rogar Baratheon's army. Most of Maegor's followers had fled, and Jaehaerys imprisoned the few that remained. As Jaehaerys was only fourteen years old, his mother, the Dowager Queen Alyssa Velaryon, would serve as Queen Regent for the first two years of Jaehaerys' reign alongside Lord Rogar Baratheon, whom Jaehaerys had named Lord Protector of the Realm and Hand of the King.

In 41 AC, King Aenys I announced the betrothal of his children, Prince Aegon and Princess Rhaena. The princess was eighteen years old and had several suitors, though she never gave any of them any hope, preferring to spend her days with her brothers, dogs, and cats. Neither Aegon nor Rhaena objected to the match, as they were fond of each other, but the Faith condemned the union.
