My Old Gaffers Association boat registration plaque arrived this morning. Now to find an auspicious location to mount it.

What books do you carry aboard your boat. This is my medical and edible book collection. Pick your books for the area you’ll be cruising. There isn’t much room on a Drascombe Scaffie but my little stack stores easily. And having the knowledge, skills and tools needed to feed and care for myself, along my journeys, is priceless.

Our 40 year old Drascombe Scaffie “Mon Nèg” is now in the OGA boat registry as number 3600. A very young boat compared to some of the great OGA boats.

Lunch at a small café on Main Street in Lake Arthur, Louisiana USA. Church bells ringing in the lunch time with noon bells. Faint music playing a comfortable tune, a good meal ordered and a fresh copy of DAN. What else can you wish for? Enjoy your day. Be sure to join the Drascombe Association as soon as you can.

I created this blog to begin documenting our sailing adventures in our Drascombe Scaffie named “Mon Nèg”. I named it Mon Nèg because my mother called me that from the time of my birth to the day she died. Mon Nèg is a term of endearment in SW Louisiana French. A language that I spoke before learning English. In Creole/Haitian “Mon Nèg” means “My Man or My Guy.” I wish my Mom was here now to enjoy life. But she isn’t here anymore and this is how I remember her. Hey Mom je suis toujours ton ti garçon! I hope you’ll follow this blog as we refinish and splash our Scaffie Mon Nèg. The goal is to set off on our pensioners adventure aboard this wonderful small open sailboat.

My biggest bucket list trip is to start at the Mexico/Texas border and sail along the coast to Key West, Florida. And then maybe beyond. We will be doing the 2022 Texas 200, Mississippi 110, Avery Island 200, Florida 120 and whatever organized events along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
