Here’s something totally different from what I usually post here- a jade dagger render made with Maya and Substance Painter!

I did this for my game arts class, where the assignment was to make some sort of asset that could be used in a game. Most of my class made barrels or crates, but I wanted to make a fancy dagger-sword-thing instead. Emphasis on fancy.

I am still a complete noob to both Substance Painter and Maya- this is the second mesh I’ve ever done in Maya and the first time I’ve ever tried Substance Painter. There’s a ton of problems that a real expert in either program could notice in an instant, but for a first try, I’m still pretty pleased with myself though. If nothing else, it’s shiny. I like shiny stuff. We’ll definitely have more assignments along these lines; I’m pretty excited about getting to do more 3d stuff in the near future!

Yooo I drew this pair of demonic trouble-children for Kill Six Billion Demons’ recent character design contest!

(If you guys don’t read KSBD you really should, it’s really good. I only got into it, like, last month, and I’ve already become a diehard fan. the worldbuilding is SUPER great and Abbadon does some INSANELY detailed art, like seriously how does the man have this much drawing stamina I am so jealous.)

Xand (Blue Devil, The Face) and Nxor (Red Devil, The Bruiser)

Xand is definitely one extremely buff and cool gold devil who is not two kids in a trenchcoat at all.

That is definitely what she is! A scary, cunning gold devil, and definitely not two other devils of non-auric chromatic persuasions, stacked on top of each other in a bootleg cloak! Nope!

She’s definitely a real gold devil, and totally not a charlatan who relies on her silver tongue and the general respect that gold devils get to scam people out of their money! 100% real gold devil here, folks. See, she’s got the gold mask (not made of scrap metal and spray-paint) and real black robes and everything!

And it’s definitely not her brother, the taciturn red devil Nxor, under that big fancy black robe at all! He’s definitely not just humoring her because someone has to take care of her when things inevitably take a turn for the worse thanks to her ‘silver’ tongue!

Nope! It’s just her! Totally! Any other idea is absolutely ridiculous! Ha ha!

…Oi, Nxor, just because they’re chasing us with pitchforks, it don’t mean you gotta run that fast! The mask is going to fall off if you keep jostling me like that!

Ha ha okay this is probably a terrible idea for an entry because neither of these characters work without each other so it’s double-or-nothing, but here’s my devil contest entry. Cutting it very close to the deadline, self. Veeeery close.

So here’s two problem children for our party to deal with! Xand and Nxor are named for the XNOR logic gate, which only outputs a signal if both incoming signals are coordinated to be the same signal.

I was cackling to myself the entire time while I was drawing this. I hope you get a giggle out of it too!
