Hear me out -

We've now had a car swerving to miss Josh in the road in two different videos. Once in Next Semester. Three times in HDS. HDS has Tyler alternating between being awake and asleep, as passenger and driver.

Car catches fire when it passes Josh and his drums, which are also on fire. Three times. Then explodes and Tyler escapes 'falling asleep at the wheel,' hops out of car to stand with Josh. Josh is the heart. The heart that makes the beat.

What does the heart do even when the mind is asleep? It keeps going. Keeping the beat. Josh represents finding the will to live. Josh is the flame found through the heart. Fire. Torchbearer. Life. Staying alive.

That's why Josh can be in two places at once, and Tyler has to seize to do the same. Tyler is the mind finding ways for the fire, the torch, the will to live, to break in and burn.

drum show i think is genuinely like. one of the most perfect modern tøp songs as of now. it's somehow complete fan service if fan service was a song and i am delighted. it combines the newer heavier styles they introduced in clancy with the themeing of songs from vessel and earlier. it's lyrically lean but it doesn't feel shallow. it's an actual drum show. tyler's vocals haven't been talked about much but they are genuinely gorgeous during the verses and i need him to use that falsetto more often. the music video is stunning. it's the perfect tøp song.

the "even now, even now" part stands out so much to me. its like they're saying even now - after all the years of their friendship together and growing together and the decade and a half of the twenty one pilots band making music together - even now he takes the longer way home and drives fast just to feel it.

Like even after everthing going seemingly so great for such a long time - it can still be hard sometimes. even when you've got all the love and friends and money and family you could need, sometimes there's still parts of you that need to drown out the silence.

it can be both - you can have a great support system and be able to love them and enjoy everything they do for you, and also still have trouble with some things some times like depression or anxiety or destructive thoughts. "feeling stuck between a rock and a home"

and that's a hard place to feel and even harder to try and get out of. "I've been this way / I want to change"
