☮ - Does Lucah have an idol or someone they look up to?

     from NG, Lucah definitely had the Arena Trainer/Witch to look up to, as she’s the one who’s most directly laid the ground for their whole philosophy over “beauty”, defining such, and... talked to them in a way that was at least a bit less cryptic and more respectful than other NPCs.      ...but that was the extent of any sort of idolatry toward adults that Lucah had, from those they came across in the Dream (one could argue that Lucah may have looked up to Mother and/or Father the way the other Marked kids did, but i wouldn’t say that those two would spark a genuine want to emulate so much as to appease, for survival).      the Arena Trainer had put into words the tools for which Lucah used to discover their values, and they needed to hear from her the implication they’d already had bravery and beauty within.

     when it comes to those more around Lucah’s age, all the other Marked children (and other friends Lucah had made in Spirale, like Noire and Hat Kid) definitely have qualities to them that Lucah looks up to. yes, even the walking spoiler characters (and Yes, this is due to the heart thing).      for instance, it’s a headcanon of mine that Lilli’s repeated phrase toward Lucah to “come on already” lent itself directly into what their taunt phrase ended up becoming; both to emulate her “cool” demeanor, and to honor her memory.

     for a Spiralian example, Lucah continues to wear their (now pretty well-worn) bracelet from Hat Kid. as they reach out with their arms to either harm or protect, catching the sight of the bracelet on their wrist has reminded them of their momentarily-forgotten principles (or strengthened them!) multiple times.      it reminds Lucah that there must be some strength or some good that she recognized in them, that there must be something worth fighting for inside of themself, if she had made friends with someone like them; she had listened to them, laughed with them, cried with them, embraced them when they hurt, etc. it’s a really, really nice good luck charm. thanks hat kid

     A month ago, Lucah might have felt too nervous to stick around and watch Samus fiddle with her BB gun. They weren’t even allowed to touch clear imitations of firearms. Some of that anxiety remains; it is, after all, a weapon—but they’re silently looking on with a smidge more of curiosity than fear. They assume the bounty hunter must know something about firearms they don’t, if she doesn’t fear them, and handles them the way she does.

     The corner Lucah’s hiding behind to peek at her doesn’t afford them too much of a decent look, though, so they move forward and squat quickly behind a garbage can. They’re careful enough not to knock some junk out of the way and give away their position.      ...As they’re constantly glowing and have their horns and wings poke out from behind cover, however, Lucah’s presence is still obvious.

      — ⚡ She’s fiddling with the BB gun within her hands, borderline disassembling it as she thoroughly examines the ‘weaponry’.

     The displeasure Samus feels can’t help but contort onto her features now. This is just terrible; even worse than being stuck with just her Paralyzer.

     It’s Lucah’s birthday.

     The SHORE prompt couldn’t have come at a better time, and there’s no hesitation as to which island they pick.

, their phone screen reads, before it glitches out; the Marked Child is whisked away to another island.

“...!!!”

     The sands are soft, forgiving, even as they pick themselves up from it. They half-expect to see a phantom awaiting their arrival, but in her place there are others they don’t know. They’re strangers, but their intent must be the same as their own, they think; everyone else who wanted to find solace through Nommin were all here with Lucah.

     As they brush sand off of their skirt, they take a moment to look up at the golden sun, remembered in full. It’s whole, the sun is beaming in the middle of the sky; even with the threat of storms on the horizon below it, the sun bears proof that this world is thriving.

     Seagulls cry out, surely perplexed by the new arrivals. At the sound, as though reminded by the birds, Lucah stretches their wings out behind them, cyan shining brilliantly.

     Lucah’s arms cross, hands on shoulders, and as they continue to admire the sun by looking right at it, Lucah silently gives themself a birthday hug.

     Their leg-swinging slows, but doesn’t stop; Lucah turns their head to peer back at the stranger. Simon’s outline is a little confusing; it’s hard to tell where the red and white lines shake together at first. But all the same, he sounds like he wants to help.

“...?”

     Oh, did he want them to change up their search terms or something? Sure, that usually did something. Lucah curls their phone toward themself to make the new search, then angles it back for Simon to see behind.

WHO IS LUCAH?

Lucah (they/them) is the protagonist of LUCAH: Born of a Dream (2018).

      ** They’ve just moved their canon point to post-True End NG+, which as the name implies, will involve massive spoilers for their game. Please unfollow/hold off on following if you think you’ll end up playing this game down the line! **

     They have horns growing out from their head, indicating they don’t quite fit the perfect example of an angel.

     That’s fine; that’s not who they want to be—not anymore.

     Through re-experiencing a surreal and merciless Dream countless times over, they’ve embraced their identity, and through enduring hell, have reached the images of confidence and beauty they had coveted so dearly.     They are armed with a pair of ever-glowing feathered wings that can swiftly meld into an array of fantastic, dangerous shapes of magic. Lucah’s enemies have typically been Nightmares, vicious creatures who are cruelty incarnate; other times, Lucah has had to fight and kill those who once were friends with them.      Other enemies have included groups of faceless doppelgangers of themself, and also God. You’ll have to try hard to either kill Lucah, or to befriend them.

Lucah would feel most comfortable meeting and being friends with those who fit the bill here, as they are also a kind of supernatural being capable of magic, and not human.

Lucah’s been through a lot, they don’t have any castmates, and I just think it’d be nice if they made other friends their age. They’re even more aloof than they used to be, but I think they still deserve to make friends, and to be understood by others their age. Lucah likes air hockey and glows different colors sometimes.

     Oh, they’d been there. Earlier in their stay to Spirale, Lucah had often let the rain catch them, and would have to suffer the same tragic consequence. But they had wizened up before long.

     Out from their hoodie pocket, Lucah takes their ziploc-shielded phone and shakes it a bit to show the other. Then, they return their dry phone to their pocket while offering her the empty bag by the zipper opening. 

“how was i supposed to know that this thing,” she shakes the blank-screened, wet cell phone in her hand, “would stop working if it were submerged into water?”

and are those… cracks on the screen, too? it’s a really good thing that she’s not dependent on it, but this phone definitely does not look usable anymore.

The longest Lucah’s ever been awake?

Around their initial arrival into Spirale, Lucah had kept awake for a day and some change, then slept for a while out of exhaustion because of how overwhelming and different this world had been to them. Similarly, when they changed canon points, Lucah took some time to themself staying awake, being sick of having been stuck in the Dream for so long. Mental illness and sleep deprivation has messed with their sense of time, so they aren’t sure of the specifics (they’re not interested in setting a record of staying up and bragging about it).

As a kid, what were they like?

They’re still a kid! They’re going to be a kid for as long as I feel like writing them, and since the snapshot of their childhood in-canon has been pretty damn rough, I’m hoping to give them more of a stable life to live through in Isola. Canonically there’s not too much to show how Lucah was before forming their identity as Lucah, and I don’t have any headcanons or give much thought to their life before the Dream let them find themself.

Now that Lucah’s canon point has been updated, they’re capable of speaking a bit more. They’re quiet, but not shy. They’re much more confident, but alone, and they also have a lot of healing that needs to be done.

Does Lucah have a sweet tooth?

The first thing I had Lucah do in Spirale was have them make friends with someone who treated them to ice cream, which they liked. It was probably the sweetest thing they had come across, but since they’ve been in Spirale for nearly 2 years their tastebuds have acclimated to handling and favoring sweet treats. I don’t think they’d go out of their way to pursue new sweets, but they’re like any other unsupervised kid that would empty a can of frosting on a lark, get sick of seeing anything pink for a couple weeks, then do it again.
