âay weâll figure it out late - ah.â the irish born witch waved her hand, swaying to the off-key notes as they passed through the front door and into the restaurant. though the blokes singing were sloshed beyond belief and seemed to have forgotten every third word, she admired their dedication. given the theme of the evening, the restaurant was a bit more crowded than normal. esther elbowed her way past a group of girls blocking the bar with a frown, apologizing instinctively when someone else trod on her shoes.  âay that was ridiculous.â she grumbled as two stools were secured for her and genie, bangled bracelets clanging from their position on her wrists as she reached for the drink menu. âiâll have ah pumpkin ale, please.â she called out with a smile, winking at their server as she settled back in her seat. sheâd gone to school with his brother.  âheâs fit.â she called out under her breath, elbowing genie with a conspiratorial look to her visage. âye should talk to him!âÂ
âoh my dear, you need to stop apologizing to people who have not earned it esther, or you may find yourself being manipulated,â genie half-smiled at her roommate as she spoke, knowing that esther often offered apologies to those who did not deserve themt, and would most likely continue to do so. âhm?â she hadnât even looked at the wizard really until esther pointed his looks out. âi suppose he is rather fit ... but honestly iâm not looking to have any of that kind of fun tonight, i have things that i need to get done in the morning, and would prefer to wake up alone, in my own bed, with a hangover potion. why donât you go for it?â

âwell clearly.â britinâs scoff was loud â almost obnoxiously so.  âno one decides to be a healer for the money. itâs not like the galleons come rolling in.â overworked and underpaid, wasnât that what the healers had muttered the last time heâd come in? itâs a cold, the healer had informed him with a less than enthused expression, go home; have some soup, have a nap, and donât come back.  in the healerâs defense, britin was a hypochondriac .. heâd been to st. mungoâs thrice that day alone.  âstill. shouldnât do no harm apply?â even once they were in the coffee shop and the wizard had obtained two black coffees and a latte, the wizard was still droning on about the article. talk about fixation!  âwell? what do you think?â now that he knew her name â adora de la fuente â he had two choices; forget about it, or find out everything he could about her and use it to his ADVANTAGE.  ââŚbut enough about me.â finally.  âwhat about you? any new prospects?â his brows waggled again. Â
âwell to be fair, itâs not like i need the money,â this was true, all of her fatherâs money had been left to her when he passed -- when she looked back on the whole situation, she figured that her father had most likely figured out her mother was having an affair and altered his will accordingly, though there was nothing that indicated he would be passing so soon. âi think,â she began, âyouâre a disaster. which isnât surprising to me in the least.â genie laughed, âme? no, unfortunately, i donât really have any time and a relationship is not a priority of mine.â

âsheâll outlive us all, donât worry.â while his mother had never openly discussed whatever ailed her, ansem knew that there was dark magic involved one way or the other. heâd decided long ago that the less he knew, the better. he didnât WANT to be involved in whatever his family was cooking up. it was better to be left in the dark.  âsheâs fine.â while he appreciated genieâs genuine interest, ansem wasnât bothered by the routine examinations. it was more of an inconvenience than a worry.  âso.. you birth the next generation of wizards. sounds like a lot of responsibility.â as if he were a reporter, he curled his fingers into a fist and mimed as if it was a megaphone as he tipped it in her direction. ââŚcare to comment?âÂ
calligenia pretended to mull over the question before laughing, and leaning in to the fake microphone that ansem had provided her with, âi guess it is quite the responsibility, and exhausting, but someone has to do it and i actually love my job, which is more than most people can say, i suppose.â

esther had expected more of a FIGHT from her flatmate but was pleasantly surprised when she agreed. it certainly made getting there that much easier as dragging genie would have been less than ideal.  âbrilliant.â she replied instantly, sheathing her wand in a holster that strapped to the underside of her arm for safe keeping.  âshall we apparate?â though it often made her dizzy, apparating to the golden pine was smooth sailing. she arrived a moment before genie, scoping out the crowds until she found the place that had advertised the karaoke night.  âitâs ova there.â she explained when the other girl arrived with a pop a moment later.  ânow if ye see me going for the daisyroot draught, ye gotta stop me.â esther cautioned the other witch.  âtrust me, itâs for tha best.âÂ
genie laughed, the sound melodic in the otherwise rather quiet street. the quiet was further broken as they approached the bar, from which they could hear the puddlemere united quidditch anthem being butchered. âi canât promise to stop you, i plan on ingesting quite a bit of schletterâs fine whiskey tonight. weâll have to hope that at least one of us is sober enough to apparate or floo us back home.â

genie rose an eyebrow as she looked to the witch next to her. âwell it certainly looks like youâve had quite the week, dear. care to share?â from many it would have seemed ingenuine, but genieâs expression had altered to one of genuine concern, though she had only -- if her memory served her correctly -- briefly met the other witch on maybe two or three other occasions. âsometimes it helps to just ... get it all out.â
ââ-unless you plan on buying me a drink, iâm not INTERESTED,â jinx snapped, âand iâm as alright as i was the last time you asked me.â sheâd had a week that she would describe as completely and utterly horrible; sheâd gone from having everything she wanted, to nothing. her expression faltered when she realized it wasnât the same person from before. ââŚoh, sorry. i thought you wereâ never mind. itâs just⌠itâs been a WEEK,â the redhead tried to explain with little to no expression change. her smile was as forced as her attempt to be friendly, it proving hard to not show how life had recently taken a toll on her. she was hanging in there though; sheâd been through worse, after all. âso, uh⌠how are you?â

âmy wifeâs in labor.â ansem explained, keeping his expression very serious as he turned towards her. âitâs a shame sheâs never met me and doesnât know iâm the love of her life.â whether or not he was joking was probably hard to tell until he broke into laughter. âno, thatâs not true. iâm actually here with my mother.â the last word came out as more of a sigh, frowning. âonce a month iâm forced to go with her to her appointments like the dutiful son i am.â another sigh. âso here i sit, waiting.â for someone who claimed to be estranged from his family, he somehow kept getting dragged back into their messes.    Â
âwell,â genie began, sitting in one of the seats next to ansem, âhad i not just gotten off of a labor and delivery shift, i may have been quicker to believe that,â she laughed.  âwell thatâs nice of you to play doting son, at least for one day.  what does she come in for so regularly?â had it been anyone else, the question may have been construed to be rude and prying, but genie had always been genuine in her interest and concern for other people.  âis she alright?â

calligenia had finished another shift in labor and delivery, and was heading out through the main entrance of st. mungoâs hospital when she saw ansem warbeck in the lobby. she couldnât see anything physically wrong with him, but that didnât mean that there wasnât. despite her shift being over, she approached the younger wizard, âare you alright, ansem? or are you here for someone else?â

britinsj:
while britin thought that sounded all kinds of suspicious, he decided to leave it alone. heâd already questioned her actions twice today and that seemed like enough for one day. maybe tomorrow. instead he shrugged his jacket back on, nose wrinkling when she started to talk about the good days. âyou sound like an infomercial.â he pointed out, feigning an exaggerated sigh as he slouched in his chair.  âyou know if you read âthat shitâ,â he did air quotes for emphasis, âi wouldnât have to relive it when i tell you about it.â despite his words he launched into the article; near memorized given how many times heâd read it over and over. while he knew that the media often distorted the truth, it didnât make it any easier to read ⌠especially when it didnât paint him in the best light.  âsuffice to say, the entire wizarding world probably thinks iâm shit when it comes to girls. which is not the case.â he waggled his eyebrows.  âi do well. i do really well.âÂ
âa truthful informercial, i love what i do,â genie pointed out, then laughing at the wizard in front of her, âperhaps if you werenât a constant danger to yourself, in turn making me worry, then i wouldnât be inclined to make you relive it all as a punishment. as it is though ...â she trailed off with a shrug. â

calligenia hummed in thought as she transformed her scrubs into high-waisted shorts, tight tee, a bomber jacket, and a pair of keds -- much more comfortable and different from what the often put-together witch usually wore. âwell iâm not doing anything tonight, so iâm certainly up for it if you are! i think the two of us could pull off a stellar rendition of cauldron full of hot, strong love.â
ă @dreamcfgenieâââ liked for a starter ă
âdid you hear? theyâre doing karaoke at one of the restaurants in golden pine tonight.â esther had just changed out of her scrubs as she magically twisted the straps of her magical boots up her calf. the two witches always talked about having fun after work but so SELDOM did it. while she wasnât usually one to wear something so extravagant on her feet, esther enjoyed that they would expand if her legs started to swell after standing for too long.  âwe should go. itâll be fun. we could use a spot of fun.âÂ

âyou have to work after work?â britin blinked. with every passing second, he wondered once again why genie had decided to be a healer. this time, he decided to voice it aloud. âremind me why you do all of this?â his faux american accent rang out as hands came up to brace against the sides of his head, exhaling sharply. it was exhausting just thinking about it he said as much with a curl of his lip. âwhat could i tell you that witch weekly hasnât already?â or rita skeeter, it seemed. heâd heard RUMORS that there was some bit of gossip in her column about him and a certain blue haired witch heâd tried to charm a few days earlier. it had gone as terribly as possible. not that he wanted to talk about it.Â
âah no, i donât have to technically -- the stuff i need to get done before sleep is just stuff for myself that iâve fallen behind with working on.â she half smiled with a shrug. many people had asked her why she wanted to be a healer when --- in all honesty -- she could have done anything she wanted with the way she performed in school. but with everything that she had gone through, she couldnât imagine doing anything else with her life. though there were days she certainly hated: days spent in the emergency wing or being in the maternity ward and losing a patient ... most days were worth it. so when she answered britinâs question, it was just that: âbecause the good days are really good.â genie raised an eyebrow at the witch weekly remark, âokay, you know i almost never read that shit.â

w i t c h e s  : modern healers (or white witch)
Young girls with strong magic and the will of the good thrumming through their veins. Healers, or white witches, use their powers with the best of intentions. Herbs, potions, and remedies litter their desks and clutter their shelves. They spend their days tending their herb gardens, crafting flower crowns imbued with kind thoughts, brewing love potions and pain stoppers, and piecing jewelry to bring luck. There is no room for darkness in their hearts, only love and happiness.Â

âwhere would the fun be in that?â though the day was partly overcast, britin donned a pair of dark rimmed sunglasses as he moved to stand. why genie insisted on working at a job that left her underpaid, underappreciated, and overworked was beyond him. it meant that instead of constantly getting tequila shots they were seeking out espresso instead. by the time heâd had three or four, his fingers were twitching more than he would have liked.  âyou say that like you arenât always concerned.â he pointed out, not unkindly.  âi think iâll get an irish coffee. iâve had enough espresso for today.âÂ
âwell youâve got me there,â she admitted. genie was the one to always worry about everyone else before she even thought about herself. it was probably the least slytherin thing about her: her lack of self-preservation. she was resourceful, ambitious as all hell ... but while she certainly wasnât a doormat by any means, sheâd always check to make sure those she cared for were taken care of before herself. âugh, i wish i could. i have to get some work done before i can go to sleep and then get up again for another shift. but enough about me for right now, whatâs new with your ever-so-exciting life, britin?â
