Why is it that when one horse has a problem, suddenly everyone has problems? Chai has a weepy, swollen eye and Whiskey has a lump on his neck and half his face is swollen. FFS. At least the vet is coming tomorrow morning...

Why do barns require so much goddamn cleaning. I feel like I turn around for 5 seconds and suddenly it's a disaster again. Didn't I just knock down the cobwebs. Why is there so much dust.

Negroni's had quite the glow-up from when I got him. I think he's looking pretty good right now.

Thinking very hard about this whole "wearing a bit" thing. We'll see how long it takes him to stop fiddling with it constantly- but he does seem to like this one (rubber snaffle) better than the first one I tried on him.

Today's session was better. He was very quiet and while still seemingly confused (??? my dude you had this lunging thing down pat why is it suddenly different in Georgia), he walked and trotted for a few minutes each direction and the only fussing he did was stopping and turning towards me every so often, and then he did some nice backing and hindquarter yields in hand. Called it done after about 10 minutes total. Much more pleased with that than the meltdown central of a few days ago.

Two steps forward, one step back- Negroni had a meltdown while I was working with him two days ago. Ripped the lunge line out of my hand and shot across the arena to the gate. I have some gross-looking rope burn on my fingers right now and my upper body is hella sore lol.

We ended on a good note though. After he threw a second tantrum, he settled down and walked some quiet circles in both directions and with that, I called it done.

Now that this is something I'm actually considering moving forward with producing- just a quick preliminary poll! Please reblog if you're a horse blog?

A few more details for what I'm thinking of: Hard-sided, felt-lined box made of sturdy plastic sized for one saddle, top-opening, with padded straps to keep a saddle firmly in place. Pop-up handle and wheels on the back so it can be rolled like a suitcase, and another handle on top for easy transport. The ability to padlock it shut, a waterproof, zippered pouch with a clear insert for a name tag on one side. Would ideally come in English and western variations. I think the price would probably end up being around $300ish if I mathed right.

I keep traveling with my saddle and I'm so tired of it getting scuffed in transit despite being in a back- but I can't find a hard travel case that keeps it locked into one place anywhere, so I'm looking into making one (and selling them ofc).

Horse coats really are amazing. This photo is from a few days ago, when it had been pissing down rain nonstop for several days. I'd gone out to feed the horses and check to make sure they were still warm- Chai had easily half an inch of bone dry, fluffy undercoat beneath the completely soaked outer layer. I thought for sure he'd be wet to the skin, but those outer guard hairs had bunched up and were doing an excellent job channeling water.

(Whiskey, on the other hand, was wearing a blanket bc he doesn't grow nearly as good of a coat lmao- Chai's guard hairs are past the second knuckle of my index finger with my fingertip against his skin, and his coat is incredibly dense and coarse. Whiskey's is fine and soft and downy, as well as sparser and shorter).

Going to pick up a new organized sport in addition to riding and I can't choose. I've done martial arts and I don't really want to get back into that, it was a bit too competitive for me. I'm also not a big fan of team sports like soccer and softball and etc.
