Legends Never-

The air was thick, pain heavy around them. Ash and rubble strewn across the area. The fighting had stopped. But at what cost?

Friend turned against friend, people brought together over what? What was this war about in the first place? Some of them didn’t even know. Yet here they are, standing amidst the destruction and-oh god.

Deadpool stood staring at the crumpled building in a painful mixture of emotions. The few close enough felt sickening dread and realization as they recognized the hand sticking out of the rubble. Spider-Man.

But no-no this wasn’t supposed to happen. Spider-Man wasn’t supposed to die-nobody was. Not really. Right?

God, what have we done? This wasn’t right-this shouldn’t have happened. Spider-Man was supposed to be alive, the hero was supposed to be making quips and thwips. Where did we go wrong?

Spider-Man is-was? He-he was one of the greatest. A true hero. A legend. But legends aren’t supposed to-they don’t- Not like this. It can’t be- It can’t end like this.

Wade woke up in a panic, bolting up to look around the dark room. Chest heaving as he choked back tears, heart sinking when he didn’t see Peter.

“No, no I-I fixed it. I-I made things right again-I fixed it.. Right? I-I-” he /had/ fixed it-hadn’t he? Peter was okay-he’s alive now, right? He-

A strangled sob cut through the air as Wade curled in on himself-followed by a muffled thud and the sound of someone running. Moments later Peter burst into the room, hair and clothes messy. Other than the expression on his face, he looked like he had just woken up recently.

“Wade?” And at the sound of his voice the older man looked up, relief flooding his features. Peter felt his heart clench at the sight before him. Cautiously, unsure of how to deal with whatever the current situation was, Peter slipped into bed beside Wade, sitting close so he could seek comfort if he wanted to, but not so close that he was invading the man’s space too much while he was distressed.

“I-..are you okay?” He asked softly, despite seeing he obviously wasn’t. Wade wrapped his arms around the hero, burying his face in his neck. The merc held a hand against Peter’s chest, taking comfort in the fact that he could feel the younger man’s heartbeat. Which meant he /must/ be alive.

“I thought-..please don’t leave me.” “Hey, it’s okay. I’m here, I’m okay. I’m not going to leave, Wade. I promise. You’re not getting rid of me that easy.” he half heartedly teased. Wade responded by holding Peter tighter. “It’s gonna be okay, Wade. It’s okay..”

…Right?
