also another thing about making art- you'll almost never see me post it. I really struggle to photograph my art and edit it in a way that captures what it looks like in real life and then I feel like a failure when it flops online. so I just don't post it. i don't make art for the people online. i make art for me.

I've never really had a specific art style because I've never stuck to one medium long enough to develop one (also I adore realism and struggle to do anything less) but I've been working with gauche more (with a pencil sketch base. I'm still mostly comfortable with graphite) and I have an actual distinguishable style that I've recognized in my art and it's my favorite part of doing my little paintings

this is really random but I'm going to ramble about religion for a second

my first memory of knowing what trans or gay people are was just after the SCOTUS decision in 2015. I was 7, and I was sitting in church with my family and the pastor was answering questions people had written on cards.

I don't remember exactly what it was but my mom had asked something related to lgbtq rights and the pastor interpreted it as relating to gay marriage. I don't remember the question or the response, but I remember my mom saying that she wasn't asking about gay marriage, she was asking how people could be trans ("born in the wrong body") if God doesn't make mistakes.

my relationship with religion has been shaky at best for most of my life. i was raised Christian in mostly small churches. I've always felt an ick at the insistence that you must give your money to the church to go to heaven. that God loves you but if you don't sing in church, you'll go to hell anyway. if God could save everyone, why wouldn't he?

what about all the people who lived before Jesus? what about the animals?

being raised (forced) Christian my whole life, especially in Idaho, I've seen the contradictions of Christian love with Christian faith. these people don't live by what they pretend to preach.

my dad told me a few months ago that if I had gay friends it was okay but he liked them less because it was a sin. he knows I'm queer, he just didn't want to hear me say it.

in recent months, listening to John Green talk about his faith has really brought my comfort. in his recent vlog brothers video, he says "I simply believe that being the person God made you to be cannot separate you from God's love"

so that's my answer.

being trans isn't a mistake. being trans is a beautiful part of life. same with being queer. a butterfly isn't a mistake of God just because it was born a caterpillar. Transformation is a part of life.

anyway. I don't know if I believe in a God or anything, but it makes living easier if I think that people like John really are doing the right thing and these assholes I've spent my childhood surrounded by, who preach faith and practice hatred, aren't going to heaven just because they read a book more than I do.

I registered for my first semester of college classes today and because I'm coming in as a junior all of my classes are major-specific but also I'm commuting (it's like 20 mins) and I'm super introverted but everyone says college is about making friends but like . how. why. no.
