Seriously people the lack of fandom interaction these days makes me genuinely depressed, it never used to be like this, makes me wonder what's the point of coming online to do anything anymore.

Reblog a post so other people can see it.

Leave a comment so the author doesn't feel like giving up.

Fandom cannot live on Likes or Kudos alone.

The stories are in my head all the time. The interaction often makes the difference as to whether or not they STAY there, or I have the motivation to get them into a shareable form.

The 'write for yourself uwu' culture shift has done real damage to fic writers imo. I recently had a post on the importance of strategic commenting break containment and I'm surprised by how many strangers who rb it in agreement feel the need to reassure in the tags that they do write for themselves, but...

There is a kernel of truth in the heart of this sentiment--if you only chase stats, you are unlikely to find joy in your writing. At the same time, I think we've veered too far in the other direction.

It is only natural to want engagement and the write for yourself crowd often overlooks how communal an effort fic writing usually is. So many story ideas are born from casual discussions about h/c's and favourite scenes and what ifs and the comment box is a cornerstone of this process. Not only can the discussions in the comment box be a hub for idea generation on their own, but even when the said idea generation takes place in DMs or Discord chats, commenting is often the first/easiest way into befriending authors; it's where community building starts.

Further, the write for yourself crowd similarly overlooks that the things a writer can write for themselves are often vast and many at any given time, and relative engagement levels across fandoms/ships can play a large part in which of those ideas a writer chooses to pursue--or whether they choose to publish their finished work at all.

In sum, I don't think we need to be this apologetic as writers for wanting feedback and engagement for what we post -- writing is hard work and it's only human that we want something external out of it in turn, however rewarding the process might intrinsically be.

My ferret shelter needs your help!

The shelter I work with, Washington Ferret Rescue & Shelter (WFRS), has a fantastic opportunity right now: a portable x-ray machine. We help a lot of sick ferrets, and often time is of the essence when we need to find out what's wrong. And with the price we pay for rads at a vet clinic, it would pay for itself in under 100 ferrets, reducing future med costs!

The machine is a nine-hour round trip away, but my wife and I are ready to go get it if we can wrangle the funds.

It's $3,000 for the machine, $550 for the U-Haul and gas, and $200 to register it with the state. That's a lot for one person, and not in the shelter's budget... but doable by a hundred through the magic of crowdsourcing!

ALL of this. YEP. Feeling this STRONGLY since a run-in with a commenter the other day who tried to analyze what was WRONG with me for the dark fic I write. Threw me for a minute. This is an incredibly encouraging reminder. <3

ok yes i hate it when butcher is awful to annie or kimiko because they’re supes but it IS objectively very funny that he was like ‘okay! here’s my anti-supes terrorist group in which we hate supes and murder supes. who wants to join’ and frenchie and hughie were BOTH like ‘me! :D can i bring my supe girlfriend though’ like. how do you even react to that

LOL And I'm in both fandoms <3 I suppose I have a "type" when it comes to shows/pairings as well as fictional men. ;)

im so certain that this has been done before but;

if i had a nickel for every tv show that stars a gay repressed angel fighting the influence of heaven and a deeply jaded and deeply wronged character both doing their best to to save the world despite it all and trying desperately to pretend they aren't in love with eachother until it is far too late...

i would have two nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
