“Hey, I wouldn’t judge.” She said through laughter. “I started helping when she began after Thanksgiving at least, it’s pretty fun. Though, decorating here definitely ruined that.” She said with a wince.

“Guess I could take myself on a date for Valentine’s Day, right?” he said with a chuckle. “That is really sweet though. I’m usually the one decorating for Christmas, and I haven’t done much the past couple years. Life gets busy and…yeah.”

“I really doubt that, the manager who hired me tried to reinterview me when I said I wanted to move to concessions.” She said, shaking her head with an amused smile. Management did tend to be unobservant. “Well, this time it wouldn’t be a scam, I did literally get attacked by the cotton candy machine.”

“Well, I can’t risk that! You never know, they might wise up and catch onto the scam I’ve been running on them for the past few years.” He took a minute to think, then, before adding - “You should, honestly. After all, I’ve found that us lowly concessions employees are at a much greater risk for shirt-ruining incidents than our coworkers. It’s honestly unfair of the higher ups to not offer us free shirts in the first place.”

“Only if you make it rough,” She said with a laugh, being single on Valentine’s day never did bother her. “Oh I told her to, and the next year she didn’t put up the tree till after November. It’s cute though, she’s so giddy over the holidays.” 

“I…I mean, I guess not. February is rough when you’re not in a relationship,” he said with a shrug. “That’s terrifying. The only person that should be thinking about Christmas then is Santa. And that’s because he’s got a big job on Christmas night. Tell your aunt to chill,” he said, though he was laughing too.

“Not a lovey dovey guy?” She teased, faking a gag at the end of it. Drew wasn’t that girly. “Dude, no, my aunt? The first year I lived with them, she literally started decorating and putting presents under the tree in October. She was so excited to have a kid living there I guess.” She said with a laugh.

“Great. Can’t wait for the hearts to overtake the park,” he said with a groan. “It makes no sense. Is anyone even thinking of Christmas that far in advance? All the decorations make me nervous. Like I’m forgetting to buy presents or something.”

“Overall productivity?” She questioned with a laugh. “Maybe you should just tell them new shirts helps with that, see what they think.” She teased, “Smart though, I may just have to join you in this new shirt system.”

“Eh, it’s worth the sacrifice, I think. It’s only a few hours of suffering tops before I get hit up with some fresh threads. It’s nice. Keeps my shirts from getting too scratchy, y’know? Totally helps my overall productivity too.” Hugo was lying through his teeth. He just really liked the thought of getting new shirts. There was no noticeable benefit to the process.

“Valentine’s day, I think.” Unless there were any odd holidays that she didn’t know about, which was fairly probable. “Oh God, or that crafts store that starts decorating in June? I guess they like to jump the gun.” 

“They’ll probably just torture us with another holiday, won’t they? What’s next, anyway?” Colton said with a sigh. If his calculations were correct, it was Valentine’s Day and he didn’t even want to think about that. “At least we’re not like department stores that decorate before Thanksgiving. I would have already hung myself with some garland.”

Drew could sense the hesitance, but didn’t bother to mention anything. The two were never close in school, they were in different circles, where as Imogen went to parties with her girlfriends, Drew was dragged along by the guys throwing the party. Besides, Drew never really did befriend many girls. “I doubt you could scare them off.” She said gently, it was a mild compliment, Drew always had thought Imogen was pretty. “These months always are the worst. Can’t wait till summer when there is more to do than walk around a ghost town.”

Imogen nodded hesitantly, forcing herself not to roll her eyes at the fact that Drew would even act as if she didn’t know her name. That wasn’t something Imogen typically encountered, especially from someone she was at least semi-familiar with. Although she quickly shook off the bitter feeling as she focused back on the conversation at hand, “Well, it’s good to know I’m not scaring everyone off.” She stated, a forced laugh following her words. “I can’t wait until things pick up again, four hour shifts feel like fourteen on days like this.”

“I dunno.” She said, trailing off, “I bet I’d break the ride, and you’d end up with cotton candy all over yourself.” Though granted some of the rides you simply had to press a start button, that was still to much for her.

“It’s not that hard,” Hunter admitted, although that might just be because they’d gotten the routine down so quickly. They had gone to Astroland ever since they were a kid, so it wasn’t like the controls were brand new to them. “If you want, I could switch you shifts some day,” they joked. “But if one of the rides gets broken, I didn’t have anything to with it.”

“That is a good point, I always lie anyway.”

“oh, totally! plus, when you’re at the doctor’s and they ask if you exercise regularly, you don’t have to awkwardly be like ‘uh, no but i’m working on it’ because you actually will be!”

Drew really isn’t sure what she wants to be. Ideally, she would love to become a singer / songwriter, but she knows how hard that is and expects to be something like a detective.

The red head had intended to sneak up on her friend, but her plans were quickly ruined by a creaky board on the floor beneath her foot. “I suppose I could help.” She said softly, walking to a stop right behind her friend. “Not sure how much help, but ya know, I can try.” Drew was willing to try to help out, though she had no idea what Penny was doing, so she wasn’t sure if she knew how to help or not.

Penelope refused to look up from the task at hand, though her ears had picked up on the creak of the old wood behind her. She puffed a breath out, wondering who had come to bother her this time. “You know, if you really have nothing else to do, I could use some help down here,” she murmured pointedly, straightening from her crouch to stretch her back. She sighed in content hearing the joints crack, waiting on the apparition behind her to speak its name.
