its been like a week but i hate the way side blogs feel. going to put drfeelgreed onto a main blog.

This is someone whose music Kate respects.

Keith had known that going into the conversation, of course. Kate speaks about Kanade regularly and fondly as someone who has an incredible talent for composition. He believes everything she'd said, and that fact already gives Kanade an edge in the interaction between them, though the leniency likely isn't communicated to anyone but the people closest to him.

She's more timid than he'd expected, but it doesn't matter; she won't be the one performing outside of this instance, so there isn't any need to project a welcoming personality.

"....."

In lieu of a verbal answer, he nods his assent and gestures to the piano on the stage---the near-pristine instrument sits ready to play for today's pianist, in a few hours.

(Not Kate, he thinks with some disappointment.)

For now, though, the piano is nobody's to command unless Kanade steps up and shows him her composition. It's an informal audition, but the fact of the matter is that his mind is already made up.

"It's too late!" bemoans Carol, clutching onto her camera with both hands like she's using it as an anchor to prevent herself from getting upset. "The bird flew away... And anyway, I doubt the Vice President would have liked a picture like that... It's not useful to the newspaper."

Carol generally thought the Vice President was incredibly smart and impressive, but her opinion of photography had always been different from his. Because of the price of film, he generally didn't like it when she took pictures of anything that couldn't potentially go into the paper. On the other hand, Carol usually considered taking a good picture of anything worthwhile, since it improved her skills at photography in general.

She slumps down onto the bench she'd stood up from to take the picture, frowning. "He's going to be even more mad that I didn't even get the picture and used up film on nothing."

not one single person asked me to make my muse bios like that so the only logical conclusion is i did that because i wanted to suffer.

the elusive transcriber character i've created for the sake of having a fun gimmick in my bios is calling to me like a siren to a sailor.

How strangely disappointing.

Laz doesn't say this aloud, because there's a limit almost everyone has to their social obliviousness, and he doesn't actually go around saying whatever comes across his mind. He understands perfectly well that it'd be rude to say something like that. A real lunatic might have, but Laz is more self-aware than most people tend to allow him.

In some ways, the boy before him is his opposite. After all, he seemingly hadn't been aware of his own strangeness, if his reaction to being called respectable was anything to go by.

"Then we can't understand eachother at all, I'm afraid," Laz says, finding his bitter tone unexpectedly easy to muster. "The respect of others---it's a fleeting dream. In my eyes, you're better of doing what you want and behaving how you like."

It's an incredibly self-serving thing to say.

He tucks a hand into his coat pocket (inside of which rests a few stray bullets) and sighs deeply, turning his head away and closing his eyes. Laz knows he hadn't been speaking for the sake of reprimanding Tsukasa---it might have been better framed as a reminder to himself. I might die without the respect of anyone around me and I'll most definitely die alone, but I'll have lived how I wanted. Or something like that.

"Well," he carries on, disguising his break in eye contact as a dramatic gesture using his words, "I can't blame you for not wanting to lose that. Freedom brings nothing but isolation."

"You're absolutely right, my fine friend!"

Isaac's concerned and consternated expression melts away into a bright smile in less than a second---seemingly, the encouragement has done wonders for his spirits, which were completely down in the gutter.

It's difficult, thinking of what he could possibly get as a present for Miria. Generally, the two of them always tend to find presents for other people together, but the suggestion of getting eachother something is entirely novel. Isaac usually believes that giving her endless smiles and happiness is enough, but absolutely everyone else seems completely absorbed with purchasing gifts for eachother at this time of year.

Naturally, he and Miria will most likely spread some holiday cheer among others, but it could be nice to surprise her...

Only, he's absolutely stumped when it comes to the sort of thing she might like. Miria is, after all, usually delighted by almost everything he gets the two of them involved in. But the young performer before him is right---he'll be damned if he allows himself to falter just because he's a lousy gift-shopper!

"If I can't come to any conclusions now, it just means I need to search even higher for the perfect gift! I'll travel to all the corners of the world looking for something Miria would love! And then I'll travel to them twice and bring her with me so we can have an endless present!"

(Taking Miria around the world together might actually be the perfect solution, but Isaac doesn't consider that option for very long at all.)

"Your generosity knows no bounds," Melvi teases, a pleased smile slipping onto his face. He appreciates the sentiment---the indirect acknowledgement of the very fact that he has wants that ought to be considered. "If you already know what I want, why am I asking for it in the first place?"

They both know, after all, that what Melvi covets more than anything is Luck's attention. Even before his wants had developed into the realm of affection and love, he'd preened under Luck's praise and felt some sort of special when Luck showed him attention he did not show to the other staff.

It hadn't been for the right reasons, back then, but that hadn't mattered. There had been something spiteful in Melvi then, an itching desire to stand out for his own reasons, whatever those were. And every time he'd done it, for better or for worse, there had always been a part of him that had spitefully wanted to say look, someone is looking at me---not Szilard Quates, not an empty puppet. Me.

Now it's different, of course. He likes when Luck's attention on him because he wants to monopolize it all the time---wants to be the only person Luck will ever look at in this way. It's an ambitious, greedy feeling, but Melvi doesn't mind it. He's evil, after all.

"Don't answer that. I know you just love playing hard to get," Melvi muses, too caught up in his enjoyment of their little game to just let the issue drop. Sometimes, Luck really does want to be left alone, and Melvi usually respects his wishes and backs off as best he can manage. But he can tell Luck isn't really focused on reading. He hasn't turned the page in ten minutes.

Shifting, Melvi places himself as he might if he were going to read over Luck's shoulder, though his head is tucked deeper into the crook of Luck's neck and one of his arms reaches out to attempt to pluck the book from Luck's grip.

"Which is why I don't think I'll even have to ask."
