Driveways - Background
You left me in the background
Sixteen different times I kept a tally down of every time you tried To cover up your lies Had me thinking what’s in your life? What kinds of contradictions justify the time That your descent denied You left me in the dark
You left me me in the dark
You left me in the background You left me in the dark You pushed me by the wayside You ripped us all apart You ripped us all apart
It’s been a long ten years but I came home You manifest my fears so I lay low Redirect my anger, quell their pain But I reject your words forget your name It’s been a lifetime since we last spoke But I don’t feel that need, believe that hope Resurrect my demons, keep yours dead They begged and they plead But you left us in the dark
Days grow older Nights get colder The sky seems closer now
Ripped us all apart Unclear perception A stage set for this scene For this Covey of demons They fill the space between Between the back and for The for Timing my friend I need a favor Fill the field of depth The field Days grow older Nights get colder The sky seems closer now

When this reaches 46 views I guess that means there is interest and we'll put the full video on YouTube. In other thoughts though, would you rather have a duffle bag full of Tickle Me Elmos or bars of fake gold? Or maybe it has to be a grocery bag...???

It’s always irritating to watch band after band release underwhelming and derivative albums that are somehow heaped with praise while other bands are out there not only writing great songs but pushing genre boundaries, or at least finding a new way to play within them. Driveways is currently the best example I know of the latter.
Their Side Mirrior EP has managed to stay in constant rotation since it was released last summer and the song 345 is a perfect example of why this band is so good. Lyrically it uses the concept of a satellite falling out of orbit as an analogy for the feeling of a relationship ending, but it’s always subtle. You have to know what happens to something when it enters earth’s atmosphere or about the Challenger disater in 1986 to understand how good the lyrics really are and you have to know a little about song writing to appreciate the uniqueness of the rhyme scheme they are sung in. Or all there songs for that matter because I don’t think there’s one that has a conventional rhyme scheme.
So when I found they released a new EP I was pretty fucking excited. "The Sky Seems Closer" pushes the band forward but not completely out of their zone and is the right mix of being enough like their last release that the changes won’t piss of any fans but different enough that it can appeal to people that wouldn’t have been into the last one. This is a band I really want to see go somewhere because I think they’re the real deal. With some support behind them I think they could reach “The Wonder Years” or “The Story So Far” type levels if they don’t get bored with pop-punk first. Not only is the new EP great but it’s also “Name Your Price” right now on their bandcamp so if you don’t go at least check it out, well…you’re dumb.

Driveways - Damage Control
You wrote your name next to mine in the fog on your windshield It’s been some time, but I swear I can still feel The heat from that night still I felt the highs and the lows in your tone at the same time Pure regret you expressed on your land line I’m in disbelief from that night still
I’m calling damage control You managed to blow Our city up out of the ground And now I’m alone in this place The emptiness takes A toll on me don’t let me down
I told her don’t let me go (No don’t let me go) Write another alibi make sure that it’s convincing So I won’t let you go (No don’t let me go) It was never real but I can still pretend that it’s okay when you call Don’t let me go I told her don’t let me go
I saw the sparks in her eyes like the sky on July fourth Burning bright like a fire I would die for In the blink of an eye still But I never thought that you would be different Now I wish I never knew you at all Cause your tendencies became so consistently troublesome So I began to brace for the fall
I’m calling damage control You managed to blow Our city up out of the ground And now I’m alone in this place The emptiness takes A toll on me don’t let me down
I told her don’t let me go (No don’t let me go) Write another alibi make sure that it’s convincing So I won’t let you go (No don’t let me go) It was never real but I can still pretend that it’s okay when you call
Days grow older, nights get colder, the sky seems closer now
Don’t let me go I told her don’t me go

Driveways - Side Mirror EP
Driveways’ Side Mirror EP is one of those releases that brings up a bunch of questions. What label is this band on? Who produced this EP? Are they touring right now? From what I can ascertain from their bandcamp they aren’t on a label, the EP was produced by Tom Iannello, and I can’t tell if they’ve ever played a show muchless tour. The reason these questions even come up is because it’s hard to believe that an unsigned band recorded five songs that sound this good without at least a modest budget from a label. So credit goes to Iannello who also engineered the last few Transit records. If a Driveways song was sandwhiched between The Story So Far and State Champs on a playlist you’d never notice a sonic drop in quality. Of course none of that would really matter if the songs weren’t good. “Side Mirror” and “Sirens” were the highlights for me but every song is solid. Driveways sounds like it’s comprised of dudes that all spent long tenures in other bands, it’s the only explanation for a band this unknown to be this good.
Could see on tour with: The Wonder Years, State Champs, Knuckle Puck

Driveways - Sirens
You kept me up late again I’m just a means to end And they keep asking me what you consider us I consider us dead I see the smoke in the air I’m at the top of your stairs I guess I’m wondering if everything is burning down How much would I really care? And all I hear is sirens
I look back at the horizon All I hear is sirens Echoes in the silence Now I can’t sing The sky is way too bright here Nothing short of nightmares Circles through my head as I fall back asleep But I can tell there’s a small left in hell that you’re saving for me
All I hear is sirens calling out my name Adrenalins a virus pumping through my veins Even though it hurts I would kill to feel the pain I would kill to feel the pain All I hear is sirens calling out my name so loud Screaming up to heaven “Come and take me now” But I’m not quite there and I’m not quite back to life
I see your name in the sky And your recite alibi As I look up into the clouds and the smoke Constellations explode and collide But they form in some patterns that vaugely resemble your face And I can tell there’s a small left and you’re saving my place
All I hear is sirens calling out my name Adrenalines a virus pumping through my veins Even though it hurts I would kill to feel the pain I would kill to feel the pain All I hear is sirens calling out my name so loud Screaming up to heaven “Come and take me now” But I’m not quite there and I’m not quite back to life

Driveways - Side Mirror
Nothing short of nightmares Creeps up in my fears I told you check the side mirror (I told you check the side) No anticipation, no hesitation I told you check the side mirror (I told you check the side)
This distance gives you closure, over-exposure It’s tough to keep you sober (It’s tough to keep you sober) These phones call hold you over But this bridge is so burned So go ahead check the side mirror (Go ahead check the side mirror)
I’m fucking terrified You’ve been inside and terrorized This better life It’s been a lie since 10/09 October sky You told me why We’d never drift apart But I should have checked the side
Impatience is a virtue Prescriptions burn through It’s not worth what they turn you into I still can’t find the words to fall on deaf ears On how you wasted ten years but you never checked the side mirror
I’m fucking terrified You’ve been inside and terrorized This better life It’s been a lie since 10/09 October sky You told me why We’d never drift apart But I should have checked the side
I’m drifting away I’m drifting away I’m drifting away I’m drifting away
