Meet AJAY DESAI; a NINETEEN year old who resembles SURAJ SHARMA. He hails from HOLLYWOOD, where he lived with his parent ANGER. Fortunately, he is AVAILABLE.
“Well if you wanted honesty, that’s all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it’s better off this way.”
He is described to be —
+ clever, driven, sycophantic
- acrimonious, envious, vengeful
His story goes like this —
Simply put, life is not fair. At least that is the conclusion Ajay has come to. He had one good year—his first year of life—where things went pretty okay. He was the apple of his father’s eyes, his mother’s precious baby boy, the center of his family’s whole world. He was a pretty adorable baby too, which got him plenty of positive attention from strangers. He learned to walk and had his first taste of real food. All in all, a great 365 days—and then his first birthday came around and everything change. Exactly one year, two hours and seventeen minutes after him, his younger sister Amrita was born and it has all been downhill ever since. Both of Ajay’s parents come from families filled with boys so the birth of a girl was a much celebrated event. Even in his young age, Ajay felt himself be shoved to the side as Amrita took on center stage. She could do no wrong—with each passing year she grew more intelligent, more beautiful, more full of life and promise and her parents were not quiet about how proud they were. That wasn’t to say Ajay was not growing into an accomplished, intelligent, handsome young man. But next to Amrita, it was like he was nothing. His parents love Ajay immensely and if you ask Mr. Desai about his son, he’ll happily brag of his son’s outstanding grades and his achievements in school science fairs, but it is not exactly a secret that if they had to pick a favorite, it would be Amrita. When he was sixteen, Ajay overheard Mr. Desai discussing the future of his law firm. Having just brought home a straight A report card and a Student of the Month award, Ajay listened in for his name. At the time his biggest dream was to work along side his father. But then, of course, Mr. Desai had to go on and on about Amrita–how the firm would be secure, thriving even, in her hands. Ajay was understandably hurt. He was also angry–with his parents, with his sister, with himself. In that moment he decided to abandon his dreams of being a lawyer, seeking his own path in life. Although his parents never gave him the credit he felt he deserved, his teachers and other authority figures did. In turn, Ajay decided to become the ultimate suck-up, doing everything in his power to earn praise and get ahead in life. Some make fun of him for being an ass-kisser, but he doesn’t care. He wants to make something of himself, he wants to make his parents realize that Amrita isn’t the only child in their family worth something. He wants to make them proud–but he also wants to rub it in their face that he could get by without them.
Walt Disney University seemed like the ideal school for Ajay. They had strong academics, athletics and student activities. Anybody who was anybody went there for school. He knew a few people going there, mainly his best friend David. It was a no brainer. As soon as he arrived at school he got involved in the science club, baseball team and debate team. He always felt he was at his best when he was overachieving. Ajay is the type of person to always personally introduce himself to teachers or to show up to class on Monday having already completed the homework for the rest of the week. Since giving up his lawyer dreams, he has found himself more partial to the idea of going into the medical field–and several of his professors agreed that it would be a good fit. His freshmen year at WDU was the best year of Ajay’s life. Distance from his family (or more specifically his sister) was exactly what he needed. It was almost too good to be true Ajay felt…and maybe that is why he wasn’t even surprised when his sister announced she was coming to WDU. The moment he heard that Ajay quit the debate team–she was going to want to join, so what was the point? While he had been a pretty happy, upbeat guy around campus, knowing that Amrita would be joining him soon dampened his spirits. Ajay’s bitterness started coming out and it resulted in a fight with David that ended in him leaving the baseball team. Ajay hopes that his sister being around won’t set him back academically or get in the way of him living his life, but he can already feel the growing resentment. During their fight, David told Ajay he needed to grow up. While Dave has since apologized for the comment, his friend can’t help but wondering if maybe he has a point.
Be careful around him, his power is —
HYPNOSIS → the ability to make suggestions to the subconscious of others. With all the possibilities of this gift, it could be a dangerous weapon in the wrong hand even with its limitations. Ajay knows this. So far he has only used it for what he sees as issues that are ‘no big deal.’ Getting a teacher to bump an A to a A+, talking them into switching his lab partner into someone more ideal. He tells himself he would never use it in a way that could cause serious damages…but it is tempting. It would be too easy to convince David to not talk to Grant with it…to get Delilah to go out with him…or to even get Amrita to leave the school. But that would be wrong, a massive violation. Still, the thoughts of it are in the back of his mind.
You can see her around with—
AMRITA DESAI→ Since coming to WDA, Ajay has not corrected anyone who assumed he was an only child. In fact, he has even gone so far to tell a few people in his classes that he does not have any siblings. He wants to forget Amrita. She is, after all, the reason he is how he is–according to Ajay. Anyone with common sense can point out that Ajay’s real beef should be with his parents. All Amrita did wrong was exist and that’s hardly a fair thing to hold against her. And yet her brother does it anyway. He has avoided her so far at school, despite her attempts at reaching out. He tells himself that this is fine, that he can go the rest of his life without talking to her. But there is a tiny nagging feeling that is beginning to get to him, making him feel like he should really just grow up and give his sister a chance. How he behaving is really not mature or reasonable. He should just drop it, right? One thing the Desai family all has in common is their stubborness–and Ajay wouldn’t be his father’s son if he let bygones be bygones so easily. DAVID PARK→ Every since they were toddlers, David and Ajay have been best friends. Their fathers knew each other through work and they lived close enough that play dates were fairly frequent. They went to the same school ever since kindergarten and were just about inseparable. To outsiders, their relationship seemed perfect–they never openly fought and they always had great plans for their future. But under the smiles and the laughter there was a thick layer of frustration. Ajay couldn’t help but get frustrated when David’s OCD got in the way of their plans. He has never understood the disorder or why his friend lets it old him back. Ajay has always used David as someone to vent his frustrations with his family and his sister to and quite frankly David is sick of it (which Ajay thinks is unfair). What’s worse is that David has pretty much replaced him with Grant. The nerve. Ajay was so sick of seeing them all buddy-buddy that he quit the baseball team after picking a fight with David. He said that he was feeling left out and ignored. David told him to quit being jealous and grow up. They have attempted to make up after that…but things will never be same. Ajay feels like he lost his one true friend and he isn’t sure how to get him back. GRANT GRISWALD → Ajay never thought he could resent someone as much as he resents his sister–and then he met Grant. He knew he was trouble when David couldn’t stop bringing up this new, chill friend. David attempted to have all three hang out together in hopes his two friends would get along but Ajay wouldn’t so much as give Grant the time of day. Ajay joined the baseball team in hopes of remaining close with David but was upset to find that Grant also had a passion for the sport. He ended up quitting in a moment of anger after David canceled plans with Ajay and ended up hanging out with Grant (it was not intentional, David had a panic attack and Grant happened to stop by his dorm and help him calm down). Ajay doesn’t wish bad things on Grant, but he definitely doesn’t wish him well.
DELILAH DUNCAN → Ajay has had a crush on Delilah for as long as he can remember. He thinks she is the perfect girl, and he isn’t even on her radar. Granted, she may know who is simply because his father has worked with her father a few times–but if she knows him, she never acknowledges it. When they were younger, he only ever saw her when his family were invited to functions hosted by the Mousley family. She was so busy with her friends and her family that he never got a chance to talk to her. Now that they are at school together, he hopes that he can change that–he just has to muster up the nerve.
