I received some great news that I can now share with you. For the second year in a row I have a photo that won in the Sports category for the 2017 Photo District News (PDN) Photo Annual competition. Thanks to my friends at adidas Football US for asking me to be a vital part of their grassroots social media efforts for the past few years.

New Work for Harper’s Bazaar Brazil - iPhone Only Body Issue

Just before I left for Australia in May to visit my wife and daughter, I got a call from the uber-talented José Cabaço asking me to take part in an epic effort for Harper's Bazaar Brazil's special Body issue in connection with the Olympics being held in Rio in August. The whole issue was all shot with mobile phones. I feel honored to be included with an incredible roster of other creatives, Chris Hornbecker, Robb Perry, Paul Wegman, Jim Golden, Ailsa Hopper Court, Victoria Inez Mesenbrink, Kevin Smith-D'aguiar, Tyler Ashlock, Marcus Swanson and others, who all contributed to this issue. Luckily I convinced Australian Olympic Track and Field team member Morgan Mitchell to let me follow her for a few training sessions in Melbourne. Thanks to Morgan, her coach Peter Fitzgerald, and her agent James Murch, for the access. The issue hit the newsstands in Brazil in on July 13th. Morgan will be running the 400m and 4 x 400m relay events in Rio.

PDN BEST IMAGES OF THE YEAR - PHOTO ANNUAL 2016 WINNER

Feeling very excited and honored to have an image selected as one of the best sports images of the year by Photo District News (PDN) for their Photo Annual 2016 competition. The image was captured for adidas football and used on their social media channels. Shot was from the Sound Mind Sound Body Football Academy in Detroit, which helps to train elite high school athletes.

WINNING IMAGE IN THE COMMUNICATION ARTS MAGAZINE 56TH PHOTOGRAPHY ANNUAL COMPETITION

Received some great news last week that this picture from a photo shoot for Dick’s Sporting Goods was chosen for inclusion in the annual Communication Arts Magazine photography competition. Of the 4,421 entries, only 157 were accepted, representing the work of 154 photographers worldwide. This shot, from a Tough Mudder event in Nevada last fall, will appear in the Communication Arts Photography Annual in July. So stoked and honored to be included in this select group of photographers.

A FEW TOUGH MUDDERS

I had the pleasure of working with the photo production team at Dick’s Sporting Goods in helping to photograph their Spring 2015 running catalog. On one of the shoots day we headed over to Henderson, Nevada, to capture some of the crazy action at the World’s Toughest Mudder competiton. Here are is one picture from that shoot. New work for H&H Outfitters

Hooked up with the awesome folks at H&H Outfitters here in Oregon to do a personal project, and low and behold, they loved some of the first images that I shared with them, they used one in an ad in the just released Fall 2014 issue of Revive Magazine, which is a really cool quarterly fly fishing magazine. Thanks to Alex, Cobb, and the entire H&H Fly Corps.

Now that the NFL season is upon us, I can share some new work that I did of Robert Griffin III for adidas earlier this year. All I can say is that RGIII is super chill, super nice, and was so awesome to work with. We had a great crew in LA for the set design and for production. 2014 MANCHESTER UNITED PREMIER CUP WORLD FINALS

Finally got over my jet lag to post a few images that I shot the first week of August at the Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals (MUPC), held in Manchester, UK. Twenty teams from around the globe qualified to play in this tournament. Over one million players took part, with over 8,000 teams from more than 43 countries competed this year to make it to the world finals. I witnessed some great soccer played, and was honored to be there shooting for the great folks at Nike and ManU. A handful of these kids will eventually make it onto the big stage in a few years. Pro soccer players Rafael Da Silva, Robinho, Fernando Torres, and Lionel Messi, all have participated in the MUPC World Finals in years past.

Football in Brazil

Many of you know that the 2014 World Cup starts June 12th in Brazil. In honor of what is probably the most watched event on TV in the world, I bring to you a series of images that I shot a few years back while on assignment in Brazil. All of these images where shot on film. The images where captured in and around the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, Brazil. Here are some of the B&W images. I will post some color images tomorrow.

My awesome lighting assistant Zac Hahn (zachahn1@gmail.com) during a light test for a commercial shoot I did earlier this month in LA. This guy is great if you ever need an assistant or lighting tech in LA.

I just got back from Sonoma County in Northern California where I shot the Lake Sonoma 50 for Nike this past weekend. This is a fifty mile ultra marathon that is ran around Lake Sonoma. Pictured here is Zack Miller, age 25, who is sponsored by Nike. Zack not only won the race, but he set a new course record with a time of 6:11:10. By the way, this was his first ultra marathon.
