Lane housing and other single-dwelling tiny houses built within established communities - and therefore using established infrastructure such as transit, fire halls, sewer systems -- is such a great way of increasing density. Wish #yyc woukd get on it, maybe the likes of me would have a hope of home ownership befire I retire.
Picture this: you own a house on a big lot that's getting too much to handle as you're getting on in yrs. Add to that property tax increases that are getting too much to handle. You want to 'age in place' and dread the thought of moving.
The solution: sell a chunk of your yard for a 600-800 sq ft house to be built on. Benefits to you: a lump sum of cash from sale, smaller yard to care for, someone to share shoveling and other such property chores, no need to move, etc etc. For the buyer - a chance to own a house for around $150,000. Dare I dream?

My first reaction:
The twentieth century? I could pick a better century out of hat, blindfolded, and get a better one!
(Quote from Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart’s Sabrina, 1954. One of my favorite movies.)
Let’s make the twenty-first century better, guys.
