Buck’s imagined finding his soulmate what must be thousands of times. Imagined the curve of their delighted smile, the warmth of their embrace. Usually, in his mind, they were a woman. As he grew older and knew himself better, he allowed himself to sometimes picture a man. Sometimes, before the truck bombing, he’d wished it would be Eddie himself.

But always, always, they wanted him.

The reality of the situation is a far cry from his daydreams: Buck, sitting on the cold tile, quietly weeping as he realizes that the person he’s been waiting for, the person he was made for, doesn’t want him after all.

In a world where soulmates share scars, Buck has a few epiphanies after the shooting. One: Eddie is his soulmate. Two: Eddie has known they're soulmates since the ladder truck, and hasn't said a word. Cue angst.

but they want to take it slow, they don’t wanna jump into having sex, so they also kind of don‘t know how to go on from here because… they live together and they just had their first date

so eddie just grabs two beers from the fridge, sits down on the couch next to buck and proceeds to tell his best friend buck about this amazing date he was on and how he thinks that this was his last first date ever, and that he wants to marry the man he was on a date with because this is it for him

and buck tells his best friend eddie that that’s funny because he also was just on a date with this amazing man and he also thinks this was the man he‘s gonna spend the rest of his life with

because they’re best friends first and foremost and they always will be

i know we make fun of buck for having zero friends outside the 118 (and even then its only 4 people from his shift and their respective partners/family) but eddies worse. eddie spent months in el paso and didnt even attempt to form a single relationship at all despite assuming his move was permanent. because he had buck. every minute not driving or hanging out with son was spent talking to buck. making friends never even crossed his mind.
