His smile is so infectious, she canât stop smilimg now that heâs smiling at her too. It was like nothing was going on around them, she was free from her previous worries. ââ Two weeks, huh?â She finally clasps his hand. Sheâs almost afraid that sheâs dreaming this all so she wants to keep him as close as possible. ââ Youâre practically a local now. Youâll have to find an English paper company and start eating meat pies instead of grape soda. Youâre going to show me around, right? Iâd hate to have to break up with you, if you donât.â
âwow, beasley. you drive a hard bargain. letâs weigh the pros and cons here,â he opened the door of the coffee shop for her, waiting for her to go through. âhonestly, thatâs what iâve been building up to my whole life. dunder mifflin? just a stepping stone into that red hot british paper industry.â he often treated serious things with a degree of flippancyâuntil they crossed into heavy seriousness, and then he was forced to straighten out and get a grip on the situation. right now? his ability to be serious had been seriously overloaded. âsince we canât have that, i guess iâll have to show you all i know.â he walked outside, and gestured to the space around them. âannnd, thatâs it. thatâs all i know. i know this shop, and the apartments.â

Upon hearing the otherâs reply, blue gaze turns towards him ââ leery as she offers up a small grin nonetheless. After all, those groceries sure looked tempting.  âYeah, leave it to me to wish for the one thing that would be of use when I was YOUNGER. Most of the fun stuff you gotta wait to be older.â A light quip, the girl however rolling her eyes at the reference. She heard it all the time with the book, && it only got  w o r s e  when the movie came out a few years ago. âTheyâre still in the Ease Side where I left their sorry asses. But hey, even a HIGH CLASS girl like me can help you carry those groceries. They sure look heavy.â
âoh yeah, just wait till tax season, itâs a blast. look forward to it all year.â it was a joke, because who liked tax season. he smiled a bit as she played along with the outsiders reference, a bit impressed that she even knew what he was talking about. âoh, what a shame. but thanks for the offer kid. iâm good though. two bags, two arms, weâre on pretty equal footing here.â he was ready to move past her, be on her way, and then he stoppedâshe was offering to help, it was a nice thing to do, she was probably alone... âbut i am particularly weak, so i guess i wonât say no to some help.â he handed her one of the bags, filled with most of the typical american brand things he could find. âfigured iâd go with a hotdog spread for dinner tonight. feeling a little homesick.â

âhey.â jim nodded over to the other person in the small pastry shop. someone he recognized from the apartmentsâand he figured if he should be making friends with anyone, it should be the people drifting around in the same boat as he was. âhereâs a tip for you, this place has the best blueberry muffins. donât tell anyone else though, itâs kind of a big secret.â

âI suppose that is a possibility. I mean, Iâve yet to figure out how all of this works,â she said with a laugh. Angelina was willing to nod and agree with it though. âI think that thinking positively is honestly the better route for this all. Iâm not ready for the rest,â she confessed before extending her own hand to shake his. âAngelina. Nice to meet you?â
âpleasure is mine,â he said, friendly enough as leaned back in the chair and sighed. on a second glance, the girl looked a little young. but she presented herself as more mature than...well, than jim himself. âi donât think anyone has figured it out. as soon as someone does i hope they make a bulletin display. maybe announce it with a megaphone.â

Rocket hissed a large snarl, he hated humans, ever single one of them. (Except for Peter.) They all saw him for nothing more than a simple ANIMAL, a raccoon as they so named him. Heâd never even seen one before, so he wouldnât know the similarities; but he wasnât a raccoon. He was something else; he just didnât know what. Though others called him a monster, he believed that to be true as well, but he wanted to be something more. âIâm not a frickinâ RaccoonâŚâ He mumbled, though it was mostly to himself. âFine, I donât need your damn help, Iâve never needed anyoneâs helpâŚâ
âbuddy, i donât know if anyone has told you this, but you look a whole lot like a raccoon.â he blinked, and then rubbed his forehead, because obviously this guy, whatever he was, had also come from a different place. who was he to judge? besides, if he was going to be crazy, he might as well be full crazy. âwell, thatâs probably true. you donât need my help. but iâm pretty sure that there is no such thing as a trading post for uranium, or whatever it was you asked for. at least not in this place. weâre all lost here so we might have to help each other.â yes, he might have to ask for help from a talking not-raccoon. his life had taken a very strange turn. but boy would he have a great time telling his grand children about this someday.

She wasnât much for public affection, but she canât help but lean into his touch. She has missed him dearly so she reaches for him a little bit too, every second his touch lingers she starts to feel better. They were lost, but lost together. Mapless and hopeless but together. ââ Street apartment? You always get the best of luck.â Her hand then moves to capture his that was on her arm. The corner of her lips raise and she smiles effortlessly. Theyâve not been together long, but their friendship spans and thereâs no one sheâd rather be stuck with. ââ How long have you been here, Halpert?â
âoh yeah, great real estate in london, honestly. couldnât have done better if i tried.â he smiled down at her, at her easy smile, the same one heâd fallen in love with years ago when she had glanced over at him from across her desk. âlong enough. iâd say about two weeks. my credit card still works, so i was able to pull some cash but uh, you knowâcould have done with that sweet bonus before this impromptu trip.â

LONDON ââ a city she once yearned to travel to, && yet never a place she thought sheâd ever end up ( especially having not planned it ). Despite the worries that lingered in her heart, there seemed to be no quick solution, no magic button one could press to go back home. HOME, a strange concept to begin with, one that she never truly had ââ at least not by standard definition. Thoughts racing, pale digits toy with the numerous rings on her fingers, gaze down as she felt another presence, saying the first words to pop in her mind, as usual. âDo ya think itâs possible to develop an ACCENT if you stay in a place for long, even if you werenât born there ?? Cause I gotta say thatâd be pretty BADASS.â
âmm, yeah. guess it would help if you were younger.â he shrugged, arms full of groceries. the girl was in the apartment complex, which meant she was probably displaced. that, and she sounded distinctly american. great, more kids. not that he had anything against children, it was justâwho was making sure they didnât burn down the building or start some sort of outsiders-esque gang. âso, cherry. whereâs sodapop and ponyboy?â

âiâve already disabled any of the tracking apps people use to find their phones. no one will find out you have it. she couldnât help but smirk when she saw him inspect the phone despite saying he didnât want it. it was always funny seeing temptation and curiosity do their job. and if he really didnât want it sheâd just drop it in some park it didnât make a difference to her. she didnât want it for anything more than a quick hack into the system. âoh sĂ. itâs a newer development. i hear theyâll scan your face soon. here, pass it back i can unlock it. then you can look at the games. thatâs really the best part after all.â
âwhat the hell is on here that it could possibly need fingerprint identification. cure to cancer? secrets of the universe? future superbowl wins?â he handed the phone back to her anyway, because he really was curious as to how they worked now. technology moved fast, he knew that. he could adapt. besides, his phone wasnât...that different. at least he didnât have a razor. âiâm more interested in what the layout is, but sure, i could go for a game of snake.â he rubbed his forehead and nodded to the mysterious phone-snatcher. âmy nameâs jim. whatâs your name? oliver twist? robin hood?â

âCanât say that is a sport I kept up with but Iâm sure it was,â she said honestly. She tended to be sort of stuck in her own interests most of the time and Quidditch was the only sport she really dedicated herself to following.  âWe can say that for here and maybe where we came from but - what if someone does pop up that has been involved in that?â
âfair enough. hopefully if thatâs the case, they can tell that itâs far enough in the future that i donât have to worry about it.â he was being intentionally glib, of course, because it was what he did. âbut so far, we seem to be on the positive end of that issue. iâll cross my fingers for non-nuclear winter.â he extended his hand. âiâm jim, by the way.â

she nodded in agreement with his plan. âthatâs kinda like what i do when i get lost. itâs easiest to just go along with it, explore, and have some fun and eventually youâll probably wind up back home.â sure, she had lots of questions, that she would continue to ask, but it wouldnât ruin her day if she couldnât fine answers. âyes as in the 1800s. based off some very simple math iâd say iâm a little less than two centuries in the future. pretty odd.â he almost seemed more stressed than her, which took some of the edge off of alice. âis it like an encyclopedia? thatâs the best way to look up things back home.â
â...yeah, itâs sort of like an encyclopedia.â he felt vaguely responsible for her now, because god, if heâd suddenly been dropped 200 years into the future, he would hope that someone would be there to acclimate him. not only that, but she seemed young. maybe not as young as the shaky chihuahua of a child heâd met earlier, but young enough to need a little bit of help. âwell, alice, since weâre both here and we donât know for how long, you can come and get me if you need anything.â there, that was good enough, right.

Pam hears her last name, recognizes the voice and prays her mind isnât playing tricks on her right now. The first thing that she noticed about him - itâs always been the first thing - is his smile. He doesnât have an unsual grin, itâs just usually more mischievous than it is right now. This one is relief, bliss. It doesnât take much for her own smile to mimick his expression, as sheâs pulled from the stranger and into his familiar arms. It takes her a second, but her own arms wrap around his broad shoulders as he holds her. ââ Jim,â she says in a relaxed tone. She wasnât afraid and alone anymore, nestles into his arms. ââ My only explanation is that Dwight has drugged us and brought us here. Iâve been looking everywhere for you.â
âyou know, i thought that tooââ he finally let her go, and then rubbed the back of his neck, head dipped slightly, just a bit frustrated that he didnât have anything more to tell her. âbut iâm starting to think this is a little bit too sophisticated a prank for dwight,â he said, clearly joking. that was his response to most stressful situations. offhanded sarcastic commentary was his strongest tool against complete panic. his hand reached out to touch her arm, to comfort both her and himself. everything about her was easy and familiar. her presence alone was enough to make him feel like things were going to be okay. so what if he was in london? so was pam. theyâd figure it out. âiâve tried everything short of getting a plane ticket back to scranton but iâm a little worried to try because iâm 100% sure at this point that it wonât work. but on the bright side, i have a lovely street view apartment. somehow.â

Nimble fingers continued tapping across the counter, strained eyes narrowed as she watches what goes on around her. Sheâd been sitting here for hours, sipping from her cup of coffee she bought with the little money she had in her pocket and constantly hoping someone would come up to her to see if she needed help. She was definitely lost. She doesnât recognize anything around her. Finally, when her back is tired of sitting in the same position for hours, she stands up, and carefully walks up to the person. She lightly taps on their shoulder. ââ Iâm sorry to bother you, but Iâm quite lost. Do you mind if I use your phone to call someone?â
heâd been handling this all fairly well, considering heâd been dumped in the middle of london with no real way to get home, and no real explanation. still, there was little that could compare to the wave of relief he got when he heard a very familiar voice. there wasnât a person in the world heâd rather see right now besides pam. âbeasley?â he interrupted her conversation, interjecting himself in the middle and wrapping his arms around her. Relief, intense and exhaustive. âoh my god, when did you get here. howâwell, never mind, no one knows how, you probably wouldnât know how, and it doesnât matter.âÂ

âyou came here from the past?â she couldnât help but frown at that, the idea of time travel reminding her too much of tracer. âthatâs the boring part. let me know when you hit your midlife crisis old man. much more entertaining.â sombra commented with a snicker, despite the fact that by her math she was actually around his age. âhere.â she didnât think, just tossed the man a phone from her pocket. âitâs even a newer model. de nada. you might even have a few days before the person realizes their phone is missing and cancels their plan.â
âyikes.â jim looked at the phone on the table and then rubbed his face in his hands. âi donât really see how having a phone for a few days will help me right now. particularly a stolen phone. iâd rather not be in future-jail, if thatâs cool with you.â heâd already tried the phone thingâhe couldnât get in touch with anyone he knew. still...his curiosity got the better of him, and he picked up the sleek phone. it was nice. compact. no more flip phones? honestly, that was a bit of a betrayal. how do you angrily hang up on someone with a rectangle? â...it has fingerprint identification?â

âcuriouser and curiouser. this is the first time iâve been around a bunch of other lost people. how did everyone get here?â there was no way they all fell down a rabbit hole right? there wouldnât be the space for everyone. it was confusing. not quite at the level as the first time she fell into wonderland but it was definitely getting up there.  â1876.â she answer after a beat. âitâs almost funny. i lived right outside this city and yet i still feel very far from home.â she paused, before shaking away the feeling and tilting her head. âwhatâs google?â
âno answer to that yet. personally, iâm still on the âthis is all a dreamâ team. which means iâve just got to ride it out. which is what iâm going to do.â it was exhausting trying to figure the impossible out. but then the girl said she was from 1876 and jim had to hold up a hand. âhang on a second...â he paused. âas in, like, the 1800s? alright. wow. uh...â he looked around. this couldnât fall to him. he was not the one meant to be orientating this young girl to an entirely different century, right? â...well, clearly, things have changed. google is a uh...â wow, how did one explain google with terms that someone from the 1800s would understand? â...google is a way to look up information.â

âAre we talking where I originated from or where I was before here? Because before here, it was still 2017, and I was in New York City.â Magnus simply said, eyeing the male. â40? you think 40 is old? Try being about 400 years old, then come back and tell me how old you feel then, doll.â he joked casually, sighing dramatically. âYou need to get out into the world instead of sitting here, reading the telegraph and complaining about otherâs creativity levels. Youâll lose more of your life that way than to actually live it.â
âoriginated? are you from a different planet? i feel like that term should be reserved for aliens. but thatâs just me, maybe iâm a little slow on the uptake.â he smiled a little and closed the paper, nodding as if everything the other said made complete sense to him. play along, halpert. âright, 400. when i get there, iâll be sure to send you a postcard. youâll have to forward me your address. of course, then youâll be 800 and i mean, wow, whatâs 400 to 800?â he rubbed his forehead and looked at the man, who seemed younger than jim himself, let alone far below 400. what the hell was happening in this world. âyeah, see, the problem with that is iâm not from here, and i donât want to get used to being here, because i wonât be for long. none of us will be. probably.â
