Cas project - Sewing
🪡Project name: sewing during summer break
🧚🏼♂️Duration and amount: about three months in the summer of 2024
🪡Type of activity: creativity

Activity description
🪡For my 14th birthday I begged my mom for a sewing machine and since then I have been sewing on and off, so for four years now. I did not go to ant school or took online classes, most of the stuff I learned was from YouTube. This summer, I planned on improving my sewing skills by practicing more. I decided to give more attention to detail, strarted making trials out of cheap fabrics and ironing my fabrics before sewing. I also decided to focus more on directly drawing on the fabric instead of making a pattern because it is more time efficient and helps you improve your alteration skills. The most worn project and the project I am the most proud of is the skirt below. I did it sometimes in August out of a fabric my aunt gave me. I was so proud because it looked really professional because I took the time to care about details. 🪡

Learning outcomes:
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.

Reflection
🧚🏼♂️This project really made me think about the overconsuption present in our day-to-day life, because I realized how long it actually took to make one garment. I believe this is a very valuable skill because it allows me to alter my clothes in new ways and continue to wear them even when the sillhouette goes out of style. It also allows me to repurpose old fabrics, like the ones my aunt gave me. I was also really proud of myself because I stayed commited troughout the project and hope to repeat something similar this summer. I am planning on using up all of my fabrics since I am moving in the fall. 🧚🏼♂️

As a proof, I decided to do a little photoshot of most of the things I made, some were given away as gifts so I had no picture of these.

Ski trip to Jahorina with my friends
🦋Activity title: ski trip to Jahorina with my friends
🦋Duration and amount: 3 days in February 2025
🦋Type of activity: activity

Activity description
🦋My friends and I decided to visit mountain Jahorina. Although it was sunny and the snow started to melt me made the most out of it. We traveled by bus and made our own food while we were there. We skied for two days because our bus arrived late. 🦋
Reflection
🦋This experience has once again proved we are able to plan a CAS activity all by ourselves. I was glad I got to spend time with my friends from my ex class and I got to practice my skiing skills. It is really sad we don’t get much time up on the mountain as I really like skiing. It also oftwn makes me sad thinking about climate change and how soon we won’t be able to go skiing in the mountains in my country because there are not that high.🦋

Learning outcomes
🦋Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
🦋Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

🇸🇪A trip to Sweden🇸🇪

🇸🇪Activity type: creativity, activity
🇸🇪Activity title: Trip to Sweden
🇸🇪Duration and amount: 7 days, in October of 2024

Activity description
🇸🇪My friends and I wanted to organize a trip and during one of our coffees started looking up which flights were available to us. We realized that there are a lot of cheap flights to Sweden, where her older sister lives with her family, but gave up since the tickets were not so cheap. A few days later during facetime with her sister, my friend realized that there are cheap flights from Zagreb and we booked the flight. We stayed in Malmö cor seven days and visited Lund, a university town nearby. We stayed with her family and did a lot of creative activities with her children. One evening we made a fall billboard. We visited all the tourist spots in Malmo, enjoyed the coffee culture of Sweden and my favorite part, found our way around the public transport system.🇸🇪

Reflection
🇸🇪This was one of the more valuable cultural experiences of that year. It was amazing to stay with “locals”, I believe this gave us a lot of advantages when visiting the landmarks. It was also very valuable to me to hear stories about people from my country living abroad as I want to do that in the near future. Apart from that, I truly felt like I was on a student exchange, because I stayed at a host family. In the end they felt like my other family. I am very greatful for all the nights we spent watching Love is Blind:Sverige and late night talks about what its like to be an older sister. It has also brought me closer with my friend. And I likwd experiencing a culture so different from ours. It was really weird seeing no coffee shops in suburbs and all social activities being concentrated around shopping malls. On the other hand I liked how much they care about nature and how simple and quiet life is there.🇸🇪

Learning outcomes
🇸🇪Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

Activity description

It was a 24km route in one way and in the end we needed to go by feet because the roads were in bad condition, but in the end it was all worth it. 🪼
Reflection
🪼This activity has left me rather suprised by my own abilities. I was happy I was able to follow my friends that often ride their bikes. In the end my gym trainings really do keep me in good shape. It was also an amazing way to spend a sunny day and I was really happy to get some time in the nature. While the waterfalls did not leave me amazed, the whole adventure did. Creative assignment

🎞️Activity title: Creative assignment we did for our Serbian class
🎞️Duration and time: about two days
🎞️Type of activity: Creativity

🎥Activity description🎞️
Our Serbian teacher thought it would be beneficial for us if we did the creative assignment, which not a requirement in the IB anymore. I decided to do mine based on the book "Crime and punishment" by Dostoyevsky which we have already read before. The idea I had in mind was to do a photography exhibition in which the photographs would symbolize either a character or an important event in the book. For example, the photography that symbolized Sonya was a photo of a woman that held the Bible in one hand and the yellow passport in the other.. My brother and friend were my models. Together, we meticulously staged each scene, paying careful attention to detail and nuance to ensure that the photographs effectively conveyed the intended symbolism.

🎥Learning outcomes🎞️
Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

🎥Reflection🎞️
The creative assignment helped me gain a deeper understanding of the symbols in the books and it forced me to try out new things, as I have never before used a camera. The assignment also made me realize how realistic this book was even in our society right now. In the end, the photography exhibition served as a testament to the enduring power of literature to inspire creativity and provoke thought. It was a deeply gratifying experience to see the characters and events of "Crime and Punishment" brought to life through the lens of my camera, and to share that interpretation with others.

Reflection

It was a wonderful experience seeing all the things we read about in the “Na Drini ćuprija” book. The bridge truly looked magnificent and out of place compared to the small town of Višegrad. It reallz showed the power the Turkish empire held over these regions. It was also amazing to spend time with my classmates and with our professors. I feel like this trip has brought us together.

Trip to Višegrad
💙 Activity title: school trip to Višegrad
💙 Activity type: activity
💙 Time and duration: 3 days, from the 12th to the 15th of October

Activity description
Our Serbian professor decided that we should have an outdoor type of class after we had read "Na Drini ćuprija" by Ivo Andric. So to actually get a real life experience of the book and the place which he was wriring about we went to Visegrad where it is all set. Our trip started on the 12th of October at 6am, apart from our Serbian professor the Visual arts professor also went with us. The trip wasnt that tiring but it was definetly long. On the first day we mostly rested and walked around Andric grad, as well as visiting some of the universities and statues which were related to Ivo Andrić. The second day we went and visited the rest of Visegrad and some historicaly important places for both the book and the city. The third and last day was focused on traveling back as the only place we visited then was Šamac where Ivo Andrićes wife was from.

Reflection
The trip in in of itself was enjoyable but what made it a bit overwhelming is the fact that every single second of the day was planned out and that the longevity of 3 days was too long to spend in such a small city, which caused a feeling that we were just circiling around the same place multiple times. Other than that, this trip served its purpose where we got closer to eachother, and to the professors, and we learned a whole lot about the city of Visegrad, its people and its history.

Learning outcomes
💙 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
💙 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
💙 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Excursion
🗺️Activity title: excursion
🏙️Duration and time: 8 days
🗺️Date: 25th of May
🏙️Type of activity: Activity

Activity description
🗺️On the 25th of May, we embarked on an unforgettable third-grade excursion, one that would take us on a journey spanning 4,000 kilometers across three countries in just eight days. This adventure was unlike anything I had ever experienced before, filled with excitement, exploration, and new experiences. The thrill of visiting eight different cities in such a short period was both exhilarating and overwhelming. One of the most memorable aspects of the trip was spending an entire night on the bus, which, while tiring, felt like an adventure in itself as we crossed borders and watched the landscapes change from one country to another.

Our first stop was Italy, where we visited the beautiful cities of Trieste, Verona, and Genoa. Each city had its own charm, from the historic architecture of Verona to the coastal beauty of Genoa. In Spain, we were captivated by the vibrancy of Barcelona, a city bursting with culture, art, and life. We also made a stop in Figueres, where we had the chance to visit the surreal and fascinating Salvador Dalí Museum, a highlight for many of us. Dalí's eccentric and imaginative works left a lasting impression.

As we crossed into France, we visited the glamorous cities of Cannes and Nice, famous for their stunning Mediterranean coastlines and luxurious ambiance. The breathtaking views of the French Riviera, with its clear blue waters and sandy beaches, were unforgettable.

Throughout the trip, we enjoyed a perfect blend of sightseeing, from historical landmarks to art museums, as well as the lively atmosphere of partying and bonding with our friends. It was not just a vacation, but a cultural immersion that allowed us to experience life in a different part of the world. The memories we made, the laughs we shared, and the lessons we learned about the beauty and diversity of different cultures will stay with us for a long time.🗺️

Learning outcomes
🗺️ Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
🗺️Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

Reflection
🏙️I realize how impactful this journey was, not just as a trip but as a meaningful experience that shaped my understanding of travel and culture. The night spent on the bus, while exhausting, embodied the essence of adventure. The stops in cities like Verona, Barcelona, and Cannes were more than just sightseeing—they were windows into different ways of life. Whether it was standing in awe at the Salvador Dalí Museum or walking along the glamorous streets of Nice, each experience deepened our appreciation for the diversity of the world. The trip wasn’t just about visiting famous landmarks or learning facts about history and art; it was about creating memories with friends, laughing, bonding, and soaking in the cultures around us. This experience taught me that travel is not just about the destination but the journey—the stories we collect, the friendships we deepen, and the new perspectives we gain. The trip may have lasted only eight days, but the lessons and memories will last a lifetime.🏙️

Sewing during summer break
✂️Activity title: sewing during summer break
🎀Duration and amount: few weeks
✂️Since: June 10th
🎀Type of activity: service

🎀Activity description🎀
I've taken up sewing as a hobby when I was 15 years old. For my 15th birthday I begged my parents for a sewing machine which I still use now. The reason I don't sew during school year as often is because this is a very time consuming hobby, as in it is not worth starting a project if I don't have a few hours of free time to spend on it. During the summer break I have started four projects, but did not manage to finish the last one. I have sewed a wrap-around sheer skirt, a matching brown top and a colourful skirt. I have started making white summer pants but haven't finished them yet. Overall, I am very happy with myself, especially because I have found ways to use up materials with which I had no idea what to do and reduced waste trough doing so.

Learning outcomes:
🎀Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
✂️Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

🎀Reflection🎀
I enjoy spending time sewing because it allows me to express my creativity without necessarily having to be good at painting and other visual arts. It is a truly rewarding process, especially when the project turns out how you have imagined it. I would love for this to be my profession in the future. It also allows me to avoid spending time on fast fashion which will end up in landfills as everything I make I really love wearing. I try to avoid making trendy pieces and I often alter thrifted clothes into something I like allowing me to reduce waste.

Painting for Trotoart
📸Activity title: Painting for the cities festival of street art
📸Duration and time: 4 hours
📸Date: 7th of June
📸Type of activity: creativity

Activity description

📸Our classmates from visual arts invited us to join them in this project, which was organized to present the street art in our city. Our task was to paint three painting which should send a massage: We should appreciate the planet we live on because it is the only one we have. We decided to paint a closeup picture of a tree in a forest, a painting of a traffic light full of stickers which send the message and a painting representing a bird's eye view of our city, which shows the lack of green areas. We spent some time in nature during this project because we painted these pictures in a local park. 📸

Learning outcomes
📸Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
📸Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
📸Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

Reflection
📸This activity gave me a different perspective of looking at things, it made me see that we as individuals really can make a difference. Our goal was to remind everyone that Earth is our only home, and through our three paintings, we tried to capture different aspects of this truth. Working on these paintings in a local park added an extra layer of meaning to the project. Being surrounded by the very nature we were representing on canvas made our message feel more real. This project taught me that art is not just about creating something visually appealing; it’s about sparking thought, raising awareness, and hopefully inspiring action.📸

Making tomato sauce
🍅Activity title: making tomato sauce
🍅Duration and time: 1 day
🍅Date: 24th of August
🍅Type of activity: service

Activity description
Every year my family and my grandparents make our tomato sauce. We do this mid-August when the tomatoes are at their peak. We collect them from our garden, wash them and cut them. Then the long hours of cooking begin. We cook them in a big pot over an open fire. Then we pass them trough a fine mesh to get rid of the seeds and skin and after that we cook them some more. In the end we put them into disinfected class bottles and they wait to get used.
Learning outcomes
🍅Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
🍅Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Reflection
This is such a great activity, because it is collaborative and we enjoy it as a family. Reflecting on the annual tradition of making tomato sauce with my family and grandparents fills me with a sense of warmth and continuity. Each year, mid-August becomes a cherished time when we gather together to carry out this ritual. The long hours spent cooking over an open fire may seem tedious to some, but for me, they’re filled with moments of conversation, laughter, and shared stories.

Training at the gym
🏋️Activity title: Training at the gym
🏋️Duration and time: 3 hours a week
🏋️Since: the 1st of February
🏋️Type of activity: Activity

🏋️Activity description🏋️
I train at the gym three times a week. I started going because I stopped training volleyball and realized I needed some kind of activity in my daily routine, because I am a very energetic and active person. My only goal was to strengthen my back because I have a terrible posture and to build up my form and I feel like I succeeded in both.
Learning outcomes
Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

🏋️Reflection🏋️

These trainings do not feel like an obligation to me, but rather a space where I can release all of the pent up energy and sometimes frustration. They helped me in building my routine and staying motivated to do something. Even when I don't want to go I make myself do it, because I know I will feel accomplished after, knowing I did something good for myself. They really affected my body image, not just because I look better, but also because I feel happy and satisfied with myself more than I did before. They also helped me improve my mood in general, because there is no frustration building up inside me, I feel like my gym trainings truly helped me exit a dark place.
