Sitting with your discomfort isn't supposed to be about wallowing in guilt or ruminating on all of the things you've done wrong. It's about handling your feelings with mindfulness instead of trying to seek emotional relief through absolution or forgiveness from the person who made you realize there's a problem.

If you have been ruminating on the things you've done wrong or on the ways you're privileged, and you've been using this to feed a narrative that you're an inherently bad person, understand that this is unhealthy behavior and it does nothing for the people you want to help. Here are some tips to help you stop ruminating.

One really weird thing transphobic cis women will say is something to the effect of “I was a tomboy, thank god it was before the transgender craze. They would made me transition.” Like, probably not, girl. As you are a cis woman who has never communicated any form of gender dysphoria. It makes it really obvious that they think being transgender is just conforming to different gender roles. There is an ocean between a little girl who likes traditionally masculine fashion and has traditionally masculine interests and a child that is transgender. They are not a slippery slope. They don’t push you down the slide of transgenderism if you cut your hair short when you’re 12.

There are so many trans men who were never tomboys, who were the picture of the ‘perfect little girl’ and genuinely enjoyed traditionally feminine hobbies and expressing themselves in ways associated with femininity. It confuses and angers cis people when they come out as trans because they only see gender as a role to perform and not an identity. If you’re truly a woman, you’re generally not susceptible to randomly turning into a man. If you’re truly a man, you’re generally not susceptible to randomly turning into a woman.

imagine if they gendered you from birth and then assigned you a list of interests and personality traits even if that felt horrifically untrue for you and you hated when people did that for as long as you could remember but every time you complained about it people got confused

Mtn dew, the soda invented in my part of Appalachia, is an absolutely unhealthy drink!

However the "dew mouth" that people cite for why they don't drink it isn't a symptom of drinking too much soda, it's a sign of the significant healthcare disparities found in poor rural areas. Along with little to no nutritional education aside from the (paid for by grain companies) now outdated food pyramid, and wages that make it literally impossible for some families to afford vegetables, many homes in rural and especially southern rural areas can barely afford to visit a primary physician let alone dentist. Coupling the malnutrition and still heavy nicotine culture with work insurances not covering dental and wage disparities that can't come a mile from cost of living, you get regionally poor dentition.

Yes the sugar in soda doesn't help the situation but that's an extremely obtuse view and effectively minor part of the entire problem. I was raised alongside students who weren't taught to brush their teeth, because their parents weren't taught and soforth. The health and wage problems cause problems with mental illness which also goes unchecked and also contributes to overall hygiene.

"Dew mouth" is hardly a sign of drinking a soda than it is a sign of severe economic degradation in the hollers of south Appalachia. It's a corelation that became a descriptor that is actually a sign of far more damning infrastructural weakness.
