Drew Wohlford
Tomorrow I turn sixty-one
On my birthday eve, I reach my peak
Though some may frown and give a moan
I’m not giving up, I’m ready to reap
What the future holds and the joys ahead
It’s time to have fun, no more dread
Many say getting old is so bad
But I’m ready to look ahead
My life’s not over, just getting started
My heart can’t be broken, it’s guarded
The wisdom I’ve gained, I’m sure to use
This birthday, I’m ready to break loose
My age is increasing, but not my fear
I’m ready to take on whatever’s near
The future’s uncertain, but I’m ready to see
What awaits me at sixty-one, sixty-two, and sixty-three!

A poem by Drew Wohlford
In the realm of words, where dreams take flight,
A writer's passion burns, with creative might.
Yet self-publishing, a path less adorned,
Where lack of money leaves hearts forlorn.
With ink-stained fingers and a poet's soul,
They craft their tales, each chapter a goal.
But financial realms, they can't always sway,
As dreams and reality dance in disarray.
The publishing world, a gatekeeper's domain,
Where fortunes favor the wealthy, it's plain.
But the self-publisher, a brave, resilient soul,
Dares to share their stories, to take control.
With humble means and boundless determination,
They forge ahead, defying limitation.
Through digital platforms and printed tomes,
Their words find wings, reaching countless homes.
No lavish advances or marketing campaigns,
Yet their stories resonate, like gentle refrains.
For in the realm of self-publishing's plight,
Creativity shines, in the darkest of night.
The power lies within, where dreams unfold,
Where stories are shared, and hearts are consoled.
Though money may falter, the spirit remains,
A writer's passion, forever sustains.
So let us celebrate these unsung heroes,
Whose resilience and artistry forever flows.
For in the face of financial strife,
They prove that words can truly change lives.
