Because Walter White went out of his way to be the world’s worst father figure to a grown man he had no blood ties to, I feel that we as an audience don’t always take the time to properly acknowledge that he was also pretty shitty as an actual father to his actual son. Flynn does get off easy in comparison to Jesse, but A) who doesn’t, and B) that’s only because Walt, despite all of his waxing poetic ab his love for his family, doesn’t really give Flynn the time of day, or give a shit about him beyond how his role as Walt’s son plays off of Walter’s machoistic vision of himself as a family man and provider. Jesse bears the brunt of Walter’s abuse despite Walt loving him more than Flynn because it doesn’t pay to be the favorite child of an abuser, but as invested in and obsessed with Jesse as Walter is, that’s exactly how little interest he has in cultivating a more substantive relationship with his son. Flynn isn’t a people pleaser like Jesse, but he’s still just a kid who wants his father’s love and approval, and throughout the series we see him make a number of efforts to connect with what he believes to be a benignly distant father, only to be brushed off time and time again. And it’s worth noting that he really only ever succeeds in getting his father’s full attention when Walter is weaponizing him against Skyler or feels his patriarchal status has been threatened by Hank and Flynn’s relationship. Jesse and Walt have this toxic as all fuck Freudian messiness going on that Flynn is Very Thankfully spared from, but only by virtue of not being the son his father wanted. Because Walter is an ableist pos primarily concerned with his own legacy, he has written Flynn off as his successor and subconsciously bestowed that title onto Jesse, though it should be noted that Jesse is not a successor in the traditional sense. Walter’s chauvinism demands a male heir, but his ego can’t reconcile this with letting anyone else take any credit for the building of or carrying on of his legacy, and so Jesse is forever in the process of being built up only to be torn down, never allowed to expand his horizons or leave the nest, and is kept on a very short leash. Walter’s priorities are so jacked that he prefers the legacy of having reduced someone who trusted him to a shell of their former self, of that testament to his power, than the legacy of having raised a kid who will probably go on to do a lot of good in the world, of a kid who recognizes the inherent value of virtues that have been coded as traditionally feminine by society, such as kindness and not exploding people. Ultimately, the reason Walter loves Jesse more than Flynn is because Walter’s love is a narcissist’s crayon drawing of love, always conditional, always contingent on how much that person can do for him, and how best it might serve his interests to love them.

A laugh, and it caused an eyebrow of Walt's to slowly rise up on his head. Being a Father -- even if that whole topic was carefully avoided during such times as these -- he felt a slight unease at how amusing the idea was to her. At least she had the gall to be honest , which if he could potentially use to his advantage down the road if he ever needed to, he supposed.
At the same time, her words were confident -- he almost scoffed at how blunt she was being about Family.
''Depends on the Family dynamic, I suppose,'' he commented, not being able to resist, definitely wanting Junior years down the road, and to understand why he had to do all this to begin with.
He wasn't about to allow her to have the upper-hand in such a conversation.
''To be fair... yes, I'd agree. I'm quite aware of how Saul can be,'' he also bluntly replied, acting as if he could be potentially honest with her, depending how their relationship could go.
He's lucky to have me, his mind supplied, as he relaxed a little bit within his seat.
"Glad to hear it. Truly."
It was.. comforting in some sort of way of how he was able to speak with her with relative ease, as if to naturally break the ice. Paranoia couldn't be let out fully,, and what a relief. Being out of control and on edge served no one well when it came to Heisenberg -- history easily proving such a fact.
Quite serious -- It was quite serious as the to9pic quickly shifted to his dark occupation, and implied help he had received --
It being like a heavy weight set on top on the room, threatening to destroy things if a mere mention of what he did would fall out into the open.
"Hm," he initially said, letting his ears try to listen for any falsehood within her words.
"Good answer--" he stated not one bit hinting at his probing of her words. "They can be... but it depends whether or not things are under.. control. Essential." He did trust Saul -- since Saul did seem to have a huge dose of self-preservation. But, she was all but new, despite being of the Goodman Family.
There had to be some sort of true indication of trust.
"You look up to him?"

She... definitely knew how to do her job -- but she reminded him of how Jesse had been so long ago, riding a few decent highs all the while even conducting business. It grated on his nerves, so a little extra coldness managed to bubble up to the surface whenever he had dealt with her. Not to mention, he had needed to maintain a cold image, all in the name of an Empire.
Heisenberg had exited from his dark painted vehicle and made his way over -- his hand immediately out. Business was the most important thing, afterall. He could feel the sun beat down onto him; it seemed like a pleasant enough.
The moment he received his money, he tilted the bag and even lifted it up and down, all to feel its weight.
He tilted his head, carefully watching her.
Was she HIGH right now?
"...Count. It," he suddenly demanded intending to drive fear into her, weighing the words she had said within his mind. He shoved it right back into her arms. "Do it right now."
If he turned out to be right in his suspicion, he could expose her right in middle of a deal. And he definitely could lay out a necessary threat towards her if need be.

she hated dealing with heisenberg. badger and skinny pete were cool guys-- she liked getting high with them, playing first person shooters, crashing on their couch. so when they offered her a way to make some extra cash, selling the purest meth she'd ever smoked, she jumped on the opportunity. thought it'd be all up hill from there, nothing but stacks of cash, bags of crystal, and maybe even a house of her own one day. she was real optimistic. until she met their boss.
heisenberg was a total dick. a hard ass, condescending know it all in a pork pie hat. but he was a genius, she knew that much from the high his product gave her. she couldn't resist sampling the shit. what'd he expect from a junkie? she just hoped he didn't notice her bag was light. she might've done a little more than she'd intended to.
they were meeting for more product, all of them, in the middle of nowhere. she was nervous, paranoid, but that might've been because she was high. she handed over the wad of dirty bills she'd made from the last week, avoiding eye contact. something about him reminded her of her daddy. something about him was terrifying. "it's all there," she lied, playing coy.

God. God.. to think he'd entertain such a prospect -- the paranormal, or even simply strange occurrences. But that's what happened, and his mind was still reeling from such a thing. He was a touch fidget-y as he fiddled with the menu that laid there -- his mind still trying to decide on what to exactly have. He hadn't been here before, so that was entirely new experience as well as meeting this woman who he had met on the Message Board they both frequented.
Control. He lacked some for the time being -- but hopefully dealing with all this he'd regain some.
Green hues flickered up over to her -- and he smashed a slight smile onto his face as she approached him. "That's me, yes,'' he quickly enough answered, motioning to the seat across from him.
"Please. Sit."
⸻ @dxmagedtwo closed starter // marissa & walt
marissa walked into the half empty diner, flinching when the old fashioned bell above the door jingled. trying to shake off the anxiety, she removed her dark sunglasses to scan the room. couldn’t be too careful these days. someone was always either overly curious or worse watching her. most would chalk it up to paranoia, ptsd, social awkwardness. but it was more than that. she knew the truth and that scared the hell out of them. spotting a man wearing a hat and a black, button down shirt, marissa cautiously approached his booth. he looked older than his online profile photo.
“mr. white?”

it was easy for jade forget all of the bad things that conspired between her and her dad. eventually, these things always bubbled up to the surface. the lies, the broken promises, the abandonment. but in a simple conversation with one of his clients, jade relished the ease with which she could speak of their relation.
the conversation stopped being simple when mister white posed the question of just how much she knew. jade wasn’t meant to know hardly anything, but in a business like sauls, her curiosity often got the best of her. this case wasn’t different. she had connected enough dots to know that the man sitting in front of her was not only wrapped up in the drug business, but quite a serious part of it.
she knew better than to let on, “ oh, me? not much. ” she shrugged, her foot starting to shake ever so slightly. “ even if i did, i’m bound by the same rules of confidentiality my dad is. family business are the most trustworthy, aren’t they? ”
