5 years ago today, Did You Know Anime uploaded their very first youtube video, and sent Jon and me on a journey to find our own Galactic Leyline.

We've met some real scoundrels and rapscallions, but we've also met some of our closest personal friends. We haven't quite found that treasure yet, but in the meantime, here's the video that started it all, narrated by Robyn from @animeamerica-blog

Misc. 03 “Valentine’s Day Japan”

Valentine’s Day is unique in Japan. Because only women give gifts (predominantly chocolates) to men. Men who receive gifts are supposed to return the gesture to women on a day called “White Day” (March 14th), which is a Japanese creation.

Misc. 08 “KFC Christmas”

KFC and Colonel Sanders are featured so much in anime because of KFC’s Christmas marketing. “Kurisumasu ni wa kentakkii!” (Kentucky for Christmas!) was so successful in Japan in 1974 that people now wait as long as 2 hours for KFC on Christmas, and pay as much as 40 USD for the dinners.
