really into the idea that early seasons cas was already in love with dean but was deeply oblivious to the fact and had no idea what he was feeling or the concept of it being possibly unrequitted and he definitely didn’t ever think to repress it so he ignores personal space because he wants to be close to dean and says unhinged things like “i did it, all of it, for you” and “dean and i do share a more profound bond” because those are just objectively true statements and he doesn’t have any idea why he shouldn’t.

the thing is like destiel was always canon because it was written into the text. like they played themselves. they wrote romantic implications into the story and even if that was for jokes it was done intentionally. like some guys sat in a room and decided to make their interactions homoerotic as fuck like that’s canon because they clearly spent so much goddamn time thinking about it which is fucking hysterical

everything i learn about jackles acting is surreal. what a fucking tightrope supernatural walked where he just like. independently decided to keep the trench coat and go full on sobbing wreck whenever cas died and get touchy touchy to the point that when they’re picking takes they’re like “ok tone it down bro” and pick the absolute flattest least touchy one possible. and sometimes they just have to cut around him being touchy because he won’t stop. so they’re like. actively toning down the physicality while also making writing choices that get more and more romantic until they literally cannot deny it anymore. supernatural is a television program

okay everyone it’s okay we’ve figured it out we’ve fixed it. it’s okay. so hear me out. it’s been well established that dean does not have the will to live without cas. we’ve seen the desperation every time cas dies and we saw dean unable to go on with his life in that flash forward with cas in the ma’lak box. with this in mind, we have to look at how seemingly meaningless dean’s death was: he didn’t even die directly from fighting those vampires. he couldn’t — he’s too good a hunter for that. it had to be an accident. it had to look like an accident for sam to accept it and to let him go. you can’t tell me that after all of that, dean’s cause of death is a purposeless fluke. dean was not the same dean ever since he got up off that floor after watching cas sacrifice himself for him. once he knew he couldn’t get cas back he didn’t mention him. when sam brought cas up in the finale, all dean could tell him was not to dwell on his grief and to keep living. dean found that case and knew it would be his last. that pie festival felt like a greatest hits type callback because he knew it would be his last. it had to look like an accident. he’s not clumsy. he never had the will to live without cas
