You only need to look on our bookshelves to see that we are both self helps queens! Getting sober can be hard we know that but the truth is we both believe that a lot of it is mond ovef matter! We both practice positive thinking on a daily basis! The conversations you have with yourself are a direct reflection of your mindset. If you are telling yourself ‘I can’t do this or I am missing out’ then guess what? You are going to feel like you can’t do this and that you are missing out! Your thoughts create your reality and if you have a negative mindset it will hold you back! I've just been chatting to @soberexperiment for their podcast and it's made me so grateful to be on this sober self-discovery adventure that I want to share the love. There are some amazing groups and individuals, who I have connected with via Instagram, who are supporting each other through choosing not to drink alcohol. Whatever the reasons or experiences we have had which have led us to give up booze there is bound to be someone who has had similar thoughts and feelings. Just as we all drink differently so we will all be sober differently but, like anything, when we share our story we help ourselves and others. I am amazed that I have more confidence drinking tea than I ever had after a glass of wine. I'm totally surprised that being sober has made me bold and brave. I always thought I was timid, even a bit of a doormat. What I hadn't realised was that wasn't me. That was the me being squashed into submission by alcohol. The real me is pretty cool actually. I'm not sharing to be annoying or smug but if you are thinking of giving up on booze and want to be inspired and supported then take a look at some of the #sober hashtags. @soberexperiment asked me my tip for the first thirty days and I said chocolate biscuits. That was definitely what got me through the sugar crash but I'm over that now and my sweet cravings have subsided. I was lucky to have others who told me they would - the sugar cravings that is - and who shared their pattern so I was warned what may be coming up. If you're on this path well done and congratulations. And thank you to the fab #sobertribe who keep each other going. I love toasting our health with fizzy water, I'm on my second bottle of the night and it's great to know I'll wake up bright and bouncy at 6 am ready to spring into action with a full day planned. We have been looking through old photos today for our presentation and it’s safe to say some of them are absolutely horrific! Luckily we both have a sense of humour because believe me we needed it 🙈 As much as we have laughed it has made us think what absolute morons we have been, what dangerous situations we have put ourselves in and how some things are certainly best left in the past! It can be hard having to deal with some of the shit you’ve done whilst being under the influence and the last thing anybody needs to here is ‘remember that one time, when you were drunk and you did....’ we have probably felt bad enough about that time as it is, Iwe have now learned to accept it as learning experiences and moved on, you really should too! We’ve all said or done things we’re not proud of, that’s part of growing up and learning to become better people. True story I’ve often looked at my own Facebook memories and wondered who the hell is that weirdo writing all those ridiculous statuses? so for anybody else to think that I’m even remotely the same as I was all those years ago is just bloomin crazy! Let’s put this into perspective shall we: Each year, alcohol is a factor in the deaths of 24,000 people in the UK . And is the biggest risk factor for deaths among 15-49 year olds Hospital admissions due to alcoholic liver disease in England have increased by 43% in the last 10 years In England there are an estimated 589,101 dependent drinkers and less than 20% are receiving treatment. Around 200,000 children in England are living with an alcohol-dependent parent or carer which can have lifelong negative effects on their health and wellbeing. Finally feeling back to my normal self! I’ve been a bit off the last week or two not even sure why? Could be winter coming, lack of sunshine, I’ve had a couple of colds, I’ve just felt a bit meh... anyways I’m back on form and it was nice to get dressed up and get out tonight! Went to the opera house to watch & Juliet it was awesome, the cast were fricken amazing, it’s still always so weird walking through Mamchester on a Saturday night sober! The more I do it the more I’m glad I don’t drink! Oh I am right ranter this week! Something needs to change - and one of things i believe needs to change is the education system. We just aren't living in the same world anymore. Especially with how much information there is available out there now. School pressure is having a significant effect on these stats and I am not surprised. I genuinely believe we are squishing these kids with stupid rules and expecting them to sit in boring classrooms learning boring stuff that they can simply find on google! • There needs to be more options - not everybody is made for a classroom. I'd be absolutely devastated if I had to go back to school. We need more options and not just 'schools for naughty kids' Just because they can't stand school doesn't mean they are naughty, infact most of them are probably too clever and need more stimulation. It's 2020 for Christs sake, The fact that kids are missing out on lessons and being put into isolation for days on end for ridiculous things like forgetting ties, being late etc is just a joke..... • I know this isn't all school related but our kids are sad and something needs to change. https://www.instagram.com/p/B3eW6oOjJTx/?igshid=13vocursne7nm

So I haven’t spoke about my weight or weight loss for a long time! and some of my old #slimmingworld members may be surprised to read this post but yeah basically I’ve decided to ditch dieting - ALL dieting! I’ve decided that I’m not going to keep obsessing over food! My sober friends won’t be surprised to learn that I was a binge drinker so now it’s time to deal with the binge eating! I’ve figured If I just allow myself to eat what I want to eat without obsessing about how many syns or calories in it then I probably won’t feel hard done by which in turn will stop me from binging on crap! If you do know me you’ll know how much I hate being sold lies and to find out that the diet industry have sold this ridiculous false idea that being thin equates not only to being healthy but also to being happy has pee’d me right off so yeah, obviously I’m not planning on eating 98 cakes a day because that won’t make me feel nice but basically the plan is to eat yummy food that makes me feel nice, No more diet/low calorie/ processed crap for me Just nice happy food! I watched the amazing @bodyposipanda a couple of weeks ago and something she said really resonated with me - she spoke about how the diet industry have played on our insecurities to make money, they have sold us ‘thin is beautiful’ so they can sell us things to get thin! We are all so different and we should be proud of who we are so yeah no more diets, no more filters just Body and mind positivity, I’ll be embracing my body just exactly for what it i, I will love it’s curves, rolls, lumps and bumps. It will mean seeing my physical self as worthy: worthy of love, of existing, of being valued as much as the next body. It may sound radical in the face of narrow beauty ideals. But from now on I’ll be accepting my body just the way it is I will thank it each and everyday for carrying me through this crazy life and I’ll be focusing on what I want my whole life to look like rather what I look like!
