What are the differences between an electric bicycle and a regular bicycle? What are the pros and cons of an electric bicycle compared to a regular bicycle?
Basically a regular bicycle has pedals which can be used to move the bike forward (and sometimes backwards) but no electric or other power of any kind
If it has an electric motor which can power it as well then it is an electric bike
simple enough
BUT
there are different categories of electric bikes.
Firstly there are ebikes - sometimes known as Pedelecs
These are basically road legal and legally are treated exactly the same as normal bicycles. Hence they can use cycle paths, speed limits don’t apply, no special clothing or protection is needs and all that stuff
In return for these advantages they are restricted
In the UK and EU this means that the motor has to cut out at 15.5 mph (25 kph in Napoleonic), the motor is limited to a maximum of 250W and the motor can only ASSIST the rider - no throttles allowed. Although they can have ‘walk assist’ up to walking speed (I forget the exact speed but it is low)
In the UK anything else with a motor is a Moped and requires and MOT,, license VED, insurance, helmet and all that. This applies even if it looks like a normal bicycle.
In some countries there are other ebike categories allowing higher power and throttles - in different categories

How further have you cycled since replacing your bicycle with an electric bike?
Pre-e-bike, I wouod ride alone on weekends for some exercise and simply being outdoors. I probably averaged no more than 60 miles a week during May to Oct timeframe.
Since buy an e-bike, I still ride on the weekends, but my wife also has an e-bike, so we ride together. But I also commute to work on it and use it for small grocery runs and other small shopping trips. I estimate I ride the e-bike more than 10 times as often and about 10 times the miles as I did my analog bike. It has replaced my car for many trips.
I also ride year-round, except during inclement weather, not due to being on a bike as much as I have had enough close calls on nice sunny days. I don’t trust drivers when it’s raining or snowing. I put a pair of handlebar mits on the bike, layer up, and use a pair of ski goggles. I’ve ridden to work with a temp of 15F (not counting wind chill). I wouldn’t have even thought about it on my analog bike.
