It’s been about a week since the 2-Spirit ball with Asinabka. It was a blast this year, I haven’t had this much fun going out in a long time. It’s taken me awhile to really process and put to words how wonderful it was because it left me speechless. I realize in my processing that there aren’t many places where I can be native with my queer and transness or be queer and trans with my nativeness. Both Indigenous & LGBTQ+ spaces struggle to see Two Spirit people with their full selves. Queer & transness is looked as a result of colonization and addressing racism & colonization in LGBTQ spaces is seen as “too political”. This last weekend was healing & a snippet of what kind of decolonial medicine we can make when we all come together.

Destigmatizing sexuality means understanding that colonization has played a significant way in how many of us currently view & see sexuality. Yet for many, sex can also be freeing and sacred. Expressing sexuality can also be healing. Unpacking the pain means addressing the shame and that means we can bring our medicines together. #decolonizeshame
