the polygon fandom really baffles me because though it's not a monolith, it contains some people who dump hardcore on kendra for problematic tweets but then also contains zounds of horny folk with no parasocial boundaries writing porn of real people and shipping them like cartoon characters. it's hypocritical and toxic fan behaviour

The polygon fandom literally harassed me out of it and an entire popular polygon server was colluding to send me ableist and lesbophobic asks and spread rumors about me being an abuser and making terrible jokes about the fact that I'm an addict all because I said that its homophobic and ahistorical to say the gay term twink is a sexual, pedophilic slur . Countless popular polygon blogs agreed with me but none of them defended me because they were too busy virtue signaling and pretending that they agreed with the majority to avoid also being targeted . A decently popular member of the fandom who I had previously considered a friend said extremely ableist things about me being a terrible person for having memory and cognitive issues during a time when 80% of the time I was drugged up on sedatives and the rest of the time I could not walk or speak or control my body due to my undiagnosed seizure disorder and I was terrified i had a fucking brain tumor

the whole situation was genuinely traumatizing as it was happening while I was simultaneously having a months long psychotic breakdown and constantly paranoid and in a state of fight or flight while having an entire fandom treat me like I was not a real person deserving of respect and it was absolutely a contributing factor to my hospitalization last winter. So like the rpf vs anti rpf discourse is the least of the fandoms problems imo but maybe that's just me >_>
