10 day (almost) fast
Wow. I've been gone for a minute. I got down to my lowest weight 207. Then, tragedy striked my life. My father had a stroke and passed away. My world was rocked so hard. And still is. I stopped fasting. I was eating whenever it was convenient and I didn't hold back. Fast forward a few weeks later and I had already shot up to 220. Now, a month after that I am at 227 this morning (with some water retention) .. enough is enough!!!! My number 1 thing before my dad died was losing weight! And fasting! It's been 2 months, and even though my life will be challenging for a while, right now I need to go back to prioritizing losing weight before I end up back at my highest weight (247) ... eating doesn't make my life better! Neither does smoking! ( I smoked about 20 packs of cigarettes in about a month and a half after my dad died but I quit a little over a week ago) smoking n eating doesn't fix anything! It's temporary relief but life remains the same. If I lose weight it can actually make my life better! I would be healthier and I would be able to deal with my challenges more gracefully. I would have the energy I need to be a full time mom and also settle my Dads estate all while running a household and caring after my little sister who is developmentally disabled. It's a lot on my plate but when I try to imagine doing it all while gaining weight, potentially at my highest weight- I know I simply won't be able to do it!!!
This leads me to my ten day cleanse, aka (almost) fast that I made up as a specialized program for me since
--I don't have the strength to fast hardcore right now. I'm the emotional equivalent to a wilted flower. I need some leniency.
--I want to do this for a while, and for ten days I know I wouldn't be able to completely fast for all that time.
So for ten days I'll be eating only when I feel the need to, snacks spread out at least by 2 or 3 hours. I'm hoping that for at least into the early afternoon I could just be enjoying beverages like herbal tea or some zevia. I am also allowing tea and coffee with cream whenever I want it within reason. I read about an older woman who fasted for several months who only had tea with cream every day. I would obviously not want too much cream bc of calories .. but I tend to sip on those drinks for a while.
My guidelines for eating are simple: unlimited lettuce and cucumber- restrict myself to 1 TBS of olive oil, unlimited red wine vinegar, and spices like oregano basil salt pepper
Snacks limited to 150 calories or less, at least 2 or 3 hours apart. My exception is a protein shake which I will allow to be up to 300 calories. The protein shake is whey protein, fresh spinach, half n half, water and vanilla. This will help with nutrition during my cleanse. Since I am not initiating many hormone process through strict fasting, I want to ensure my body is still digesting high nutrient foods. I don't need to have it every day, but I think I probably will have it towards the evening to help with hunger while going to sleep.
I will be taking my vitamin supplements as well as making a home made electrolyte drink. especially for the days when I eat very lightly.
I would love to throw in a fasting day in the middle of the 10 days if I can. Also throw in 12-4 hours dry at a time if I can! I wanna take charge of my weight! I wanna stop this weight gain in it's tracks. I simply can't wait any longer. I don't want to gain one more pound. It's not worth it! I quit smoking and to b honest I feel like being fat is more dangerous to my health than smoking is!!!! Now I can get to being a healthy weight AND not smoke cigs! I'll be coming back to the blog throughout the ten days to keep myself accountable. My hardest time will be 6 pm and beyond. I will probably benefit from coming on the blog at night in bed and reiterate my goals and how I feel.

Ive decided that for right now i need a greater focus on consistency rather than being hardcore and aggressive with the fasting. What i am going to focus on for a few days is at least 22 hour fasts. Breaking the fast with low carb meal high volume of veggies . Not too many calories. Eating window 2 hours. After i feel comfortable with consistency i will go for another longer fast. For now i want to appreciate how the snake juice is helping the way i feel while i fast. And just watch steady weightloss. I want to stay on track with this at all costs. My disciple needs some tweeking, but for the most part i feel that this is a very sustainable thing for me. Just gotta give myself an honest chance. This is my weightloss journey and i wont be giving up even if i have a few downs with the ups.

7.27 . Thursday. Fast did not go as planned. Woke up bloated , weighing a hell of a lot. I felt so hungry n weirdly anxious about it (pms symptoms) so I ate tonight. N boy, did I eat crappy food!!! Did not make the best choices tomorrow. Did make it a 22 hour fast n ate everything within an hour. Will get about 22-24 hours in before my date tomorrow. Mexican food. Then I will go for a 40-44 hour fast until I eat at my cousins baby shower on Sunday. Being good on a diet is always harder for me around the week before my period. It's something I will definitely work on. In the future it may be a great idea to expect to do 22 hour fasts for the week leading to period. It's always easier for me to fast a day or two after period starts.

7/25.. Tuesday. Ended up eating today. I was intending on fasting all day but then I got really tired and my focus was food after I snapped out of it. It's all good! I just made it three days this weekend and I'm feeling accomplished. My plan is eat the food I have prepped for tomorrow at any time I want. The earlier I eat, the earlier I can start the fasting clock which will end when I go to a Mexican place Friday night w the fianc茅 :) ... I could prob get in 48-50 hours! I would LOVE to go for another three day fast next week! I felt so good on the third day! Either way, one thing I want to develop discipline in is eating healthy and not going overboard especially if I'm doing OMAD that day. The great thing is even though I've been kissing fats ass this week, I still feel like I'm slacking and that's my motivation right there not letting me slow down or take steps backwards. I'm in this hardcore!!!!!

Made it about 68.5 hours!!! I'm so proud of myself for sticking with it for three days. Tonight I broke my fast at about 7:30. Today I felt really great. I would definitely be interested in doing another 72 in a week or two. I decided for the rest of this week to do two 48s. Eat on Wednesday and Friday. I will do 24s for the weekend and take it from there :)

I reached 205.2 today. Excited to see where I can be in a couple of weeks. I will bet that I'll hit the 100's within two weeks. For already losing 7 pounds this month, I can't complain!!

I've decided it makes a whole lot more sense to wake up and continue to dry fast til about noon. That'll give me a 15 hour dry fast, if at that point I want to drink that's alright. Breaking my fast with solids at about 9PM. Going to drink some organic coconut water first, and will start breaking my fast with homemade onion soup. Then I will get started on my large salad. These things will help mellow my appetite so I don't go too crazy tomorrow night.

7.23 - Sunday morning. Been fasting for almost 35 hours. About half way! Going for 72, Monday night. Will prob hit 70 though since I don't want to break fast at 11 PM. I was 206.0 today!! Lowest weight I've seen yet. Can't wait to see what I'll be tomorrow morning. My plan is to drink 8 oz of snake juice in the morning, and maybe one other small drink- and then dry fast for 12 hours. So from 8-8 I wouldn't drink anything. If I wake up feeling good I might not drink at all which would make it a near 20 hour dry. I would not be surprised if i hit 200 lbs :)

We are taught if our stomach is empty, we are hungry. My fasting focused lifestyle has taught me that we are not hungry when are stomachs are empty and in fact we can get very used to that sensation. I've heard true hunger comes from the back of the throat, which I've not read about yet and have never experienced. It's amazing to me how good I can feel when my stomach has been empty for a really long time. That's what is pushing me further to want to do a longer fast. This weekend I will do my first 72. Friday evening to Monday evening. Going two full days with no food!!!! If I break earlier, at 68 or whenever on Monday, that's alright. I always am wanting food at night while fasting and then when I wake up I can fast a lot easier. My hopes is that Monday, I will feel so good that I will have no problem making it to 72.

Weight after dry fasting til 4:15: 207.2!!! I lost 1.2 since I got dressed this morning! Beautiful! some of that is water , but still. I accomplished somewhat of a dry fast, even if it was only 15 hours.

208.4 actually, peed and then hit that weight! I have been dry fasting for a couple of hours each morning, but today I decided to try the gym without fluids. I did a relatively easy, yet aggressive cardio workout for a little over a half hour and I felt fine for the most part. Once I went over about 165 heart rate I just slowed down and then would increase intensity again. Now at 1:30 I still haven't taken in fluids. I plan to have my dinner around 5,5:30 so I will prob start fluids by 3 or 3:30 at the latest. The urge is there to drink but it's a habit, I'm not suffering. I know that dry I can burn fat faster and like I've said, it's a race to 200 at this point. I've been DYING to get to 'onederland' for years, and it's so close now!! 8 pounds away!!!

I was 209.8 today!! I am only a few pounds away from being at the 40 pounds lost mark. I can not wait to hit 200lbs!! My fasting plan is working nicely. I did a 44 hour fast Monday and Tuesday, and then the rest of the week I've been eating in a 4-6 hour eating window each day. Now it's Friday. I just ate. I'm pretty full. Tonight I might just treat myself to a Starbucks iced coffee and add stevia to it. I am really loving that I have been progressing like this. I thought for sure it would take a week or two to undo the damage from overeating on vacation.. but here I am, less than a week later and I am less than what I was when I left for vacation!!

43 hours into a fast (post vacation) .. fast has gone well, I have not been insanely hungry. Today I had an emotionally draining day. I am physically tired. I wanted to push it to 55 hours, but I am leaning towards breaking my fast with a healthy keto meal tonight instead. I think if I eat tonight I will start a good schedule, when then I can open my window tomorrow afternoon and eat some more keto food. Not sure what will happen next week. I think I will still have a goal of Sunday night to Wednesday, but if I go along with my daily schedule, that fast would actually end up being more like 60-65 hours . I'm not sure if I want to go that far on a weekly basis but I'll see. I like the idea of possibly having a meal on Tuesday nights. But pushing it to Wednesday afternoon if I'm feeling up for it. I ate a lot on vacation. I wanted to be a bit better but hey, only one week long vacation per year. I believe I am back on track since I am in my 43rd hour of fasting. I am focused on being keto, only consuming a little bit of potato or rice during my 'one meal a day' eating period. I would like to keep it to 50 carbs a day but if I go over it's not a big deal, as long as it's from a healthy source. Example would be if I ate a plate of sausage meatballs and veggies in a tomato sauce. Or if I was in the mood for beans or soup containing tomato or lentils.

My fasting is going great! I had a couple 20 hour fasts in the last couple of days. Last night I started my last 48 (will be more like 40-45) hour fast before vacation. I've been expecting my period so I few pounds of water retention is normal, although today i weighed in at 212.4 which is a .6 drop from my lowest weigh in! I would love to see how much I weight post period. I do think I'll gain a little on vacation only because I'll probably get less fasting hours in. I'm going to do my best to at least not eat breakfast every day, and make lunch low calorie. Splurge at night. Alternatively I could splurge for a late lunch and that could be my one meal a day. I'll have to see how it goes! I tend to drink iced coffee on vacation which I've been avoiding lately because of fasting. I've been super strict with not wanting any cream during fasting hours. I used to have it daily when I was doing IF!

6.27 .. 20 hours into fast. I was thinking before how interesting it is that at the 20-28 hour mark I suffer with thoughts of food way more than I did when I was intermittent fasting 20 hours sometimes more a day. I was thinking what's the difference and I think what it is, is that I do better with an earlier eating window. I have been stopping eating way too late, so it is very hard for me to hit my 48 hour goal. I have a goal of 3 40 hour fasts by the end of the week (including this one). I would like to get that number to 48 when I'm back from vacation. In order to succeed I should have a 6 hour (maybe 8) window to eat every 46-48 hours. I would like to get to 12-6 or 10-6. This puts me at breaking my fast at work which is best bc I will do it in a calm manner. I can have my watermelon juice or coconut water followed by a small meal. When I get home I can start preparing my feast :) ... Optimal meal consists of mostly veggies. I've been keeping track of all my veggie ideas that I would like and taking note of some good recipes to try. I love a lot of veggies and I am enjoying incorporating them back into my diet! Some of my favorites: Cauliflower Cabbage Green beans Sugar snap peas Broccoli Spinach Asparagus Lettuces Cucumber Zucchini Eggplant Mushrooms Onion Garlic Okra I have confidence that within one week back from vacation that I'll be digging into the digits counting down to my 200 goal. Last fasted weigh in was 213, so it's only a matter of time and effort! I'm expecting my period this coming weekend so there's no telling how much water I'm holding. It feels great to not be full though. And as always I feel like fasting is a chance to start again. Tomorrow I'm cooking all sorts of goodness to eat. No caving on carbs! I got an organic russet potato to make a yummy baked potato, and will also have some rice. I want to avoid bread!

Ate soooo many carrrbs today. Just started a 40 hour fast. If I push it longer so be it but I think 40 is more realistic than 48, especially since I wanna do the continuously for the rest of the week. I don't feel terrible tonight just full. I'm excited to go through this fast! Every time I break a fast it's a new chance to make healthy choices. Today I let myself take one piece of a bagel w cream cheese like a tiny piece and it through me into carb city!!!!
