[ad] Capriottis, a popular national sandwich restaurant opened up a local franchise in Grand Rapids (Cascade) a couple of weeks ago...and then some stupid virus came to the United States. Starting up a new restaurant is always challenging in the best of times, but nobody needs a pandemic to add to that challenge. However, capriottis_gr isn’t taking this lying down. They are still offering takeout, curbside, and they have a pick up window. In order to create awareness of the restaurant in these challenging times, they are giving away a $25 gift card to 4 lucky winners. If you win and want to arrange for pick up, that’s great. If you need to wait several months to use your winnings until things Improve, that’s fine as well. They’ll be waiting to serve you. THINK! This is supposed to be a morning inspirational, and I think you should take it that way, but you might not. I’m asking you all to THINK! I am hearing, and have personally witnessed, bitchy customers during this time of crisis. JUST STOP IT! Even in the best of circumstances, restaurants are going to have good days and bad days. We get that. Even during good times getting short with hospitality workers, chewing them out, or complaining about things vociferously is not the way to handle things. NOW, Take a hospitality industry that has been turned on their ear, one who has to innovate, changes procedural norms, and otherwise make serious adjustments while simultaneously losing money (Because make no mistake, most restaurants in this situation are not getting ahead. They are simply trying to mitigate their losses until things get better) and you can expect that things won’t be perfect. We are in this together! So the next time you go to a restaurant to get your curbside pick up and the service is a little slow, or you want to split your bill and the restaurant isn’t willing to do that. When you start yelling into a restaurant because they won’t let you into a locked lobby, or you have to pay using a SPECIFIC payment method (cash, pay pal, credit card) Because that is all the Restaurant can handle right now. STOP AND THINK! Acting like a spoiled child is not going to get you better service, and it certainly shows a lack of grace in a time of challenge. Patience is a virtue. LET’S SHOW SOME VIRTUE . . OK,A little ingenuity here. A couple days ago I picked up a take and bake lasagna from Amore Trattoria Italians. Well, You can only eat something for a couple of days before you get bored of it, but wasting food is a sin especially in these times. I repurposed the lasagna and made lasagna grilled cheese sandwiches. Win/win. . . It’s just bad luck to open a brewery a couple weeks before a pandemic, but in an effort to keep things moving the right direction, @arvonbrewingco is pairing up with @patty_matters to provide burgers and beer for takeout. As many of you probably saw it last night, EatGR will be partnering with the garage bar to give away 26 meals a day for the next 30 days to people in need. I was really struggling with what to say this morning. Even in a situation where we are more careful with our human interactions, we still have to eat. That includes all of the hospitality workers were trying to make ends meet as their jobs are being threatened, so here is my modest proposal: I want to encourage everybody to order takeout/get delivery at least once per week. Consider this your date night in, or the special thing you do for yourself. By doing this, you are still supporting the local food industry, you still have to eat, and this could start a trend that could last into the future. Again, it is a modest proposal. If 30,000 people can get behind that it will definitely help in these trying times. If you are at a restaurant offering either of these services, you may post in this thread. 30,000 you say? So, We had a German exchange student last year and she was telling us how they had pizza in Germany that was tuna pizza. I thought that sounded crazy, but apparently Bosnia and other European countries are into tuna pizza.
