Time for my top 15 reads of 2020! ✨ I am never able to get it down to just 10, I don't know how some of you do it. These are all my 5 star fiction first-time reads of the year (in order of when I read them). The one with the spine in is The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi which I don't have a physical copy of yet. I confidently recommend all or any of these books. Which have you read? Any on your TBR? I love these kind of posts so let me know if you've done one so I can check it out. The story, the characters, the costumes, the scenery, and oh the acting. Both Davis and Boseman give perfect performances and, unlike their characters who butt heads at every turn, don't compete for the spotlight but instead feed off each other to bring August's play to life. I honestly wouldn't be able to say which of them was better. Their energy radiates through the screen. (The door opens and Levee enters, carrying a shoe box. In his early thirties, Levee is younger than the other men. His flamboyance is sometimes subtle and sneaks up on you. His temper is rakish and bright. He lacks fuel for himself and is somewhat of a buffoon. But it is an intelligent buffoonery, clearly calculated to shift control of the situation to where he can grasp it. He plays trumpet. His voice is strident and totally dependent on his manipulation of breath. He plays wrong notes frequently. He often gets his skill and talent confused with each other.) 🥃 5🌟! I love how Wilson writes, especially the introductions to the settings and characters. Between the script and the cast there is no way the Netflix film coming out today won't be incredible. 💥 2020 READING GOALS UPDATE 💥 Looking back on a post from January, I realized that, prob because of the pandemic, this is the first time I reached all my reading goals (except for one volume of Proust which has been haunting my reading goals for years). I've got 4 books on the go right now which I plan to finish by the year's end, bringing my total books read coincidentally to exactly 100. Here were my goals for this year: SLIDE 1 - do @reggiereads #10books10decades challenge. ~ 💥UPDATE: read them all and found some new favourites! SLIDE 2 - reread these 10 books. ~ 💥UPDATE: Done! Plus I also reread Wuthering Heights, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Macbeth, and A Christmas Memory. SLIDE 3 - read all of the books in this stack. ~ 💥UPDATE: Read them all except for the black Proust volume (books 5-7) SLIDE 4 Get my TBR stack down by reading any books I buy within the year. ~ 💥UPDATE: I did it! I'm a bit late with this one but this delightful collection of essays, which was one of the September ALCs gifted to me by @librofm, has been the perfect thing to listen to here and there while waiting around, doing chores, or just during some unexpected downtime. Helen Macdonald perfectly trnasmits her love and wonder of the natural world. I've found myself looking closer and thinking deeper since starting this.
