what are berdlys parents like in the berdly soul au? or are they mysteriously gone because they don't exist (yet) in the base game?

They're never going to be shown (if mentioned at all) in the au, but that's no mystery. (I honestly doubt we'll see them in the base game either.)

Running on the assumption that Queen extends past being a metaphor for just Noelle's mom and is representative of Berdly's mother as well, the poor kid seems to be brushed off and neglected by his parents. He is pretty needy after all, requiring constant validation, and if a parent didn't know how to handle that they would likely get annoyed, dismissive, and neglectful.

If I ever depict Berdly's parents in the au they'll likely be off-screen. Sort of like in old cartoons where you never see the adults and only barely hear them. Those guys never seem to be involved with whatever hijinks the kids get up to. (I was thinking of Charlie Brown, so I drew Berdly in that style here.)

I can only pray that Mr. Toby Radiation Fox doesn't pull a Mike on me and it's revealed in Chapter 85 that Berdly has loving parents.

Nerding about the piece (and closeups) below cut:

In this piece I wanted to show who's really in control: The Player. I started with a pose of a scene of horror: Ilya Repin's Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan. In that piece Ivan, driven by a madness he can't control, has caused the demise of his son, which parallels Kris and Noelle's relationship. Where Ivan, in a horror realized, stares into the distance, Kris confronts us with direct eye contact.

I also wanted to include religious imagery, as was encouraged by the original post. On Noelle's palms and soles are snowflakes, mirroring Christ's cross wounds. Her clothes are reminiscent of a priest's, front panel shaping a cross. Her hand is making Christ's gesture.

On the floor are spilled battery acid and a broken CD Bagel. Famously, at Christ's Last Supper he took break and tore it, saying, "This is my body, broken for you." Next he took the wine and said, "This is my blood, poured out for you. Do this in remembrance of me." The next day he was killed on the cross for the sins of mankind. Likewise, Noelle is killed (at least in spirit) because of our sins. I wanted to emphasize this point with the food of Chapter 2 (her dark world chapter) and the religious backdrop that Chapter 4's darkworld provides.

really like your Player 2 AU! It left me half crashing out over how both interesting and potentially horrifying it could be! Definitely looking forward to hearing more of it!(and also being traumatized by it)

I am very normal about the player 2 AU, Berdly is so stupid and so easily manipulated, I love himmmmmmmmmmm

At some point (I think it was the Snowgrave aftermath comic?) you mentioned him crashing out in Toriel’s bathroom, and I’m now very curious how he got into this random old lady’s bathroom. Did the soul break in? Cuz honestly that sounds like something the soul would do

She invited them in because Noelle was locked out! (Seen in a comic of the regular run of the game here). It's a cannon event so that's something that couldn't be up to the soul's whims^^

i absolutely do not mean this in a demeaning or otherwise insulting way - P2 Berdly's Dark World outfit reminds me of Mordecai from Regular Show

What might P2 Berdly's thoughts on Lancer be like, and vice versa?

I wonder if each of them might be annoyed by the excesses of their similarly-blue counterpart or if each of their own idiosyncrasies might render them more tolerating of each other.

They're neutral on each other for the most part. Lancer finds the fancy words that the soul (is forced to choose from) humorously confusing. Berdly pities (and is kind of jealous) of Lancer for his childish whimsy.

With the soul kind of filtering Berdly they don't rub against each other much.

But if Berdly were free from the soul it'd be a different matter entirely lol

for the p2 au, is the prophecy itself changed in anyway? Does it ommit the "human parts" bit? Or is it just the same?

It's still the same! Instead of Susie being the prophecy-breaker, it's up to Berdly to change fate.

I'm really curious about this

In Deltarune, Kris is the one who opens the fountain to the Dark World of chapter three, and we know this is because they are secretly working with someone else, most ptobably the Knight

However, Berdly doesn't have a reason to open said dark fountain, even less following the specifications of slashing Toriel's tires so that she calls the police, and letting the door opened for Undyne to end up in the Dark World too

So, how would this work in your AU? Who'd open the Dark Fountain and follow these specific steps which work in favour of the Knight?

This question would be a lot easier to answer if we knew the true workings of the knight in the original Deltarune.

For this AU, the Knight has to work on their own. When they open the fountain in Chapter Three, it's just out of frame when everyone's asleep (you hear a some noises in the bathroom, then the kitchen. you hear the sound of a dark fountain being opened, and then your world is covered in darkness). They also slash the tires, etc. They're slightly easier to fight at the end of Chapter Four than usual (because they've been tuckered out), but it's balanced out because Noelle is unable to act half the time.
