no one died. why? because the 118 and athena did everything bobby taught them.

bobby physically atoned for his past sins by dying in season 7 after being confronted by a survivor (amir) and saving athena from their burning home.

he spiritually atoned for his past sins by sacrificing himself in season 8 to save the rest of his family. bobby’s casket was buried with his first family in minnesota.

no one in the building in the season 8 finale died because the 118 followed through with bobby’s teachings. something he failed to do the first time when his building was on fire, when he couldn’t save his family. they didn’t let the cart cop kid sacrifice himself because he was innocent. it wasn’t him who slapped the washing machine door shut that instigated the explosion, and he saved donny while bleeding out himself.

the finale ends with the introduction of robert nash han.

captain robert wade nash paid the penance for minnesota. he is now at rest with his first family. our bobby nash will return to his home in LA so he can spend the rest of the life he wanted with athena and his found family.
