Hi everyone! My name is Aster. I am a 23-year-old gymnastics coach, gymnast, and dancer! I don’t currently compete, though I am looking to do so again in the future as an AAU or USAG Xcel Athlete! I have been doing gymnastics for 10 years on and off. I started taking dance classes when I was nearly 17 and have been dancing ever since. I love the freeing feeling that movement brings me and despite the fact that I will never be a high level gymnast or an elite dancer I love it all the same! As someone who is physically disabled and neurodivergent, I struggle to do the same things that abled people can do easily. Because of my connective tissue disorder, I may not always be able to do gymnastics and dance. This makes these activities even more precious to me than they would be otherwise, and I want to pursue them for as long as I possible can!
But anyway, I am going off on a tangent. A few of my friends expressed interest in me making a tutorial of the stretches I do at the beginning of the gymnastics classes that I teach. It took me a bit longer than I wanted it to, but I finally managed to record this video! After recording this video, I realized that I wanted to post it to Tumblr as well. I’ve been considering making a gymnastics/dance/disability blog for awhile, and making this video was just the push I needed in the right direction towards making this lingering thought a reality!
On this account, I will be posting clips of my gymnastics, as well as videos and blog posts about disability, fatness, race, and the intersection between these three things! I am looking forward to posting more to this account, as well as talking to whoever decides to follow it! Don’t be shy - I love talking about things that I am passionate about! I am going to try and make sure that I use image descriptions for everything I post on this blog. If I can figure out how to caption on my limited equipment, I will do that as well! Have a great day everyone!
(P.S. I realize that I may sound out-of-breathe throughout this video. Please don’t be concerned: I’ve been having trouble with allergic asthma this springtime season, and had an untreated asthma attack a few hours before this video. Luckily, I had a telemedicine appointment with my doctor today and was able to get some good allergy medicine, as well as an inhaler! So once I pick it up, I will be golden.)
