Dishes Can Wait

Just imagining hearing mumbled cursing coming from the den. I pause in washing the dishes and peek around the corner to find you stretched out as best as you can in your chair, panting laboriously, trembling hands gingerly cradling your distended belly. It’s a mouthwatering sight, made even better because I know you can’t help yourself. Can you?

If I lay down a spread fit for a holiday on the dining table you’re going to consume it all, bite by giant bite, moaning over how good everything tastes and how you can’t get enough. It warmed my heart watching you devour dinner tonight, but from the look of it you may have eaten just a little too much, haven’t you? Your gut’s so round and bloated that your already tight shirt gave up long ago, riding up and exposing what’s normally a soft, indulgent potbelly but is currently a heavy, stretched-so-tight-your-rolls-have-almost-disappeared tummy instead.

Gosh, what all did you eat again? I know you went through the mac and cheese in record time, then the chicken and biscuits, and since I know you too well of course there was a full serving bowl of fried okra to go with it.  By then you were in foodie heaven so I helped you out, shoveling generous spoonfuls of mashed potatoes past your lips and then popping honeyed baby carrots in one by one. You always love my deviled eggs and, looking now, I see they’re all gone so you must have polished off a dozen of those as well. Bell peppers, pickles, a platter of cheese and crackers…oh gosh and we haven’t even reached desert yet.

Well, I haven’t. Looks like you already took care of the pumpkin and pecan bars—no wonder you look like you’re in pain! My poor babe, you must be in agony, that’s so much food and it’s just sitting in your poor, straining tummy right now, isn’t it?

But I can’t, I won’t, lie. You look so vulnerable right now, so helplessly stuffed to the brim with all your favorite treats, and it makes me want to swat your hands away and rub all over the at gut myself. Soothe it, prod it, pinch at what little flab will give in your current state, tease you just a teeny tiny bit for being such a good girl/boy/x for me and finishing your plate…well, plates. Maybe nudge your legs open a little more to make room for that growing balloon of a stomach, maybe for other purposes, too.

Mm, yeah I think I’ll have to take over for you. I can do the dishes later.
