there was a sudden excitement seemingly trying to show through monotone, his head straightening up ever so slightly whilst his body remained in its familiar slouch.

somewhat of an irritated tone soon replaced the enthusiasm in his drawling voice; having to divert his gaze back up to the other’s face was a burden; effort. cinnamon eyes staring so intently at him were offered a glare in return, glazed & emotionless. the sight of jean’s salute caused them to close with an unthinking slowness. as his hand made its common, unhurried motion to rest on the back of his neck, dennis made a halfhearted attempt to sound like he’s not talking above jean, simply to him.

nevertheless, he couldn’t deny that he somewhat commended jean for his grasp on reality. there was no wonder why dennis had chosen to approach him. having a recruit that wasn’t so hung up on duty was refreshing to say the least.
