Open Island

materials from end of residence Fr. Open Island est une œuvre danse qui invite à l’introspection, comme quelqu’un qui contemple la nuit prenant la place du jour. Le corps et l’environnement se fondent dans une danse lente, où la vulnérabilité trouve un accueil dans le regard du public. Parmi diverses lumières — de bombes, de Noël, de téléphones, de rituels —, le feu et l’eau, la performance crée une expérience sensorielle du temps et de l’espace. En utilisant la nature, des matériaux jetables et des objets électroniques, un environnement se construit entre la naissance et la mort, mais célèbre avant tout la force d’être en vie. C’est un appel à la résistance et à la contemplation de notre petite et sacrée existence.

En. Open Island is a dance piece that invites introspection, like watching the night gradually overtake the day. Body and environment merge in a slow dance, where vulnerability is met with the audience’s welcoming gaze. Amid various lights — from bombs, Christmas lights, phone screens, and sacred rituals — along with fire and water, the performance creates a sensory experience of time and space. Using natural elements and sounds, disposable materials, and electronic objects, it builds an atmosphere suspended between birth and death, but above all, it celebrates the strength of being alive. It is a call to resist and to contemplate our small, sacred existence.

Pt. Open Island é uma obra de dança que convida à introspecção, como quem contempla a noite tomando o lugar do dia. Corpo e ambiente se fundem em uma dança lenta, onde a vulnerabilidade encontra acolhimento no olhar do público. Entre luzes diversas — de bombas, de natal, de telefones, de rituais —, fogo e água, a performance cria uma experiência sensorial com o tempo e o espaço. Utilizando sons e elementos da natureza, materiais descartáveis e objetos eletrônicos, constrói-se um ambiente entre o nascer e o morrer, mas, acima de tudo, celebra-se a força de estar vivo. É um chamado à resistência e à contemplação da nossa pequena e sagrada existência.

In “Neon Beach” there is a visual narrative where each object is highlighted by its color and its rhythm in the dark space. There is no longer a lone body, it is made up of things and things are organized to accommodate a diverse body.
