it's natural materials o'clock again & i made a stone golem.

a while ago, my partner's mother was moving and getting rid of some things, including a collection of rocks. i love a good rock, and when presented with a large wooden box of them, wanted to make a creature. i flirted with the idea of making something a little less stoney and a little more posable, but ended up deciding on this non-articulated sculpture. it has a metal wire skeleton, some tinfoil padding, and then just A Ton Of Rocks glued onto the frame. the face is a lake rock i found and painted some years ago, but didn't end up doing anything with until now.

my problem with the "x is also beautiful!" sort of positivity posts is the same as with "let's normalise x!" like no, sorry, i don't think we should broaden our definition of the norm or the beauty standards to include yet another little thing, i think we as a society should instead learn to live with the fact that there are people who aren't "normal", and there are people who aren't "beautiful", and it's okay, no one has to be normal or beautiful, and people who aren't either normal or beautiful should still have their needs meet and be treated equally. and perhaps one day we could even fully leave behind this idea that everyone should fit meaningless standards, but even i understand that we aren't ready for that yet

maybe i'm in no place to complain as a fully abled person but i feel like it's a bit weird how there's maedhros, a canonically disabled character that is explicitly mentioned to efficiently use his left hand post-thangorodrim, and people so often just erase his disability by giving him a prosthetic that functions as well as, if not better than, another hand, especially when in reality prostheses that good haven't even been invented yet. no back problems from hanging on that rock for years, no chafing where that prosthetic is joined, no sensitivity or grip issues, of course it's durable enough to swing a sword around; just slap a pile of metal together and add a touch of ✨magic ✨, it's fine! idk maybe i'm wrong about this

I made the pattern in procreate, then printed and cut out the pieces to use on as a guide on the felt. I ended up trimming some pieces as I hand sewed it together, so the pattern above isn’t exact.

Design/starting concept:

My original plan was to make him into a keychain, and I might still do that eventually, he just ended up a little bigger then I planned.

This was super fun to work on, and I’d love suggestions for other middle earth things to make :0
