Colleen blushed and groaned. “Honestly, this town. Rumors spread faster than wildfire. It’s just like Peyton Place. It’s a wonder anyone can keep a secret around here!” “Are you and Viktor in looooove?” Kelly asked, making kissy sounds at her. “No. It was one kiss, and I don’t plan on seeing him again.” “Good,” her mom said. “I won’t have any of my daughters running around with strange men. Your father and I didn’t raise you to be that way.” “Ugh, honestly, mother, you think anyone who dresses differently and who doesn’t attend at least one church social is strange.” Colleen stood up, her empty bowl in hand. “I’m going to be late for work.” She stomped across the deck, kissy sounds following her into the house. Pedaling her bicycle to work helped to calm her down, and by the time she was propping her bike up against the lamppost in front of the store, she had a genuine smile on her face. How quickly that smile faded when she overheard several of the ladies who were in her mother’s bridge club gossiping about Daniel. Two of the women, Melba Ferguson and Hilary Monroe, were full of information. Apparently, Melba had gone over to the cabin where Daniel was staying with one of her famous apple pies to welcome him to Havenwood Falls, but was too late. She saw him loading a suitcase into his truck right before he drove out of town. “Such a shame,” Melba said. “I’m beginning to wonder if Miller’s Plaza will ever be built.” “Oh, don’t you worry, Melba,” Patty Parker chimed in. She reached across Hilary and plucked a can of Kitchen Klenzer off the shelf. She briefly examined the label before placing the can in her basket. “I have it on good authority that Daniel is staying on as foreman. He just went to go pick up his mother to bring her here for a visit.” “So he does have family?” Hilary asked. “Yes, it’s just him and his mother. His father died a few years ago. He’s been taking care of her ever since—he simply dotes on her.” “Oh, the poor dear.” “So tragic,” Hilary said with a sigh. “She’s lucky to have such a devoted son,” Mrs. Wilson said with a sniff. Her son, Wally, had left Havenwood Falls right after he graduated high school and never came back. “He isn’t married. I wonder who we can introduce him to? He’d make a fine match for someone.” The ladies moved to the next aisle, and Colleen strained to hear who they were hypothesizing about. The very idea of them playing matchmaker with Daniel made her want to yell at them to mind their own business, that Daniel was hers. Surprised at the possessiveness of her thoughts, Colleen ground her teeth together to avoid an embarrassing outburst and regarded the gossipers through narrow eyes.

Zero Tolerance for Bullies

Something tragic and awful happened in the Indie book community this weekend and it has really left me shaken. From what I understand, an author called out a book cover designer on Facebook for allegedly stealing or copying a design. I don't know the parties involved, but what followed this public accusation can't be undone, however a repeat can be prevented.

After the accusation was made, a lynch mob of sorts formed. Instead of pitchforks, these people attacked with their words. A relative of the book cover designer found her the next morning, unresponsive, after attempting to kill herself. The designer's computer and cell phone revealed a deluge of messages from over 80 individuals threatening her and telling her to kill herself; even suggesting methods like slitting her wrists.

Fortunately, the suicide attempt was unsuccessful and she's alive, but she should never have been backed into a corner like that. Authors know how powerful words can be and for anyone to use them as a way to encourage someone to end their life is unconscionable, irresponsible, unforgivable and unacceptable.

As word of this situation spread other authors have shared their stories of being bullied or attacked in similar ways. Certain authors use their street teams or reader groups to attack others either out of spite or jealousy. I want to make it clear that I don't condone this type of behavior and will NEVER ask my fans to engage in such a manner. I don't think you would ever follow that kind of lead, anyway.

I've lost friends to suicide and have zero tolerance for bullying. If anyone who is following this page or is friends with me was involved in the hate campaign against Lee Ching or anyone else for that matter, please unlike this page, unfollow/unfriend me, etc...

Finally, if any of you are going through dark times and are thinking about making an exit on life, please reach out to me. You are never alone.

Gancanagh

Gancanagh are a type of humanoid solitary Greater Fae, fairly rare and one of the more dangerous varieties, if not necessarily by choice. Gancanagh skin secretes a drug, more commonly called a toxin, which human skin can and will absorb. The drug creates a mild but constant addiction, encouraging the one affected to seek the touch of the Gancanagh they have become addicted to. Addiction can lead to death should the Gancanagh, as Fae often do, grow bored, and cease to give those addicted the touch they both crave, and truly need for their continued sanity and physical health. A curious thing about the Gancanagh toxins is that it can affect other Fae, but not Part-Fae, and does affect humans strongly, but also that, should the Gancanagh fall in love, the effects of the toxin will be almost entirely nullified in those previously entrapped by it.

The name “Gancanagh” comes from Irish gean cánach, which means “love talker”, and indeed many Gancanagh, and those with Gancanagh ancestry are smooth talkers, ofttimes being fairly charismatic, and convincing liars. Many a Gancanagh also has a haunting singing voice, with which they draw people in. Besides this their innate magic also makes them fairly attractive, Gancanaghs often having well defined bone structures, which can make them quite strikingly attractive. It is unknown what exactly Gancanagh gain from their behaviour - some have suggested they are similar in some ways to the muggle inventions of the incubi and succubi, however Gancanagh can feed from lightning and natural energy as many other High and Greater Fae can.

Often changing styles to fit the times, Gancanagh in muggle lore often possess pipes, while many modern day Gancanagh feel no need to, besides which, they avoid smoke, and fire fae due to a mild allergic reaction to smoke. Many Gancanagh are well or fashionably dressed, or glamour more commonplace clothes to be closer to what their target might find attractive.

Gancanagh, of all fae, are some of the most manipulative, and even those with generations old Gancanagh ancestry can be highly manipulative individuals. It is worth noting that while a Gancanagh can manipulate how much toxin they release on touching people, that is never cause to trust this kind of Fae. A simple way one may protect themselves against the touch of Gancanagh is by making a small amulet, with twigs of rowan and mistletoe, and a single iron nail, tied together with bloodstained, or ochred red thread.

Most commonly found in Ireland and Scotland, in recent years Gancanagh have sought to move elsewhere, travelling as lone fae are wont to, and have since produced offspring with Veela, whose combined allure and addictiveness make them highly dangerous.
